University Attended - Copenhagen Business School Feedback INDUCTION/ORIENTATION PROGRAMME What did this involve, how long did it last, was it useful? The most interesting part would be the first night meet and greet section, which is very innovative and being held as a speed dating. Within no longer than 3 hours, we are able to meet each of people once during the event. The way it was held provided opportunity for everyone to make true dialogues with a people you did not expect to meet, from place you did not expect they come from, from backgrounds you did not expect they are that fascinating. In such more closer form of induction event, it has made easier for people to further contact people you found interested to develop friendships further. Quite a smart way indeed. Other events are also interesting and helped us to understand the unique Danish culture in Copenhagen. Event such as cultural food day and movie nights really made me understand more about the place when I have just arrived. ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE Style of teaching, courses, ease of access to courses, methods of assessment, teaching support Teaching in CBS is quite different from MBS. I am surprised that they do not have something like workshop or seminar as we do in MBS, but they do have longer hours for each lecture. The reason behind I guess is that each class is smaller (around 40 people), so that during regular lectures the opportunity for everyone to raise question is adequate. Academic Books: Quite special. Most of the course do have a thing call the Compendium. Which is a printed selection of articles or book chapters for each course by lecturers. In a cheaper than original price which could be sold in the school book store. These compendium nearly covers the whole course. In teaching support, they also have their Blackboard called CBS Learn. One thing special is that they do uses a thing called Pirate Pad which is an online note pad that students and lecturers can collectively contribute to the content inside. The main purpose is for us to ask questions and the lecturer will put their answer below your question. The best thing is we can all see what other ask and the corresponding guidance the lecturer has provided. I think this is quite convenient and this allows us to learn collectively from others. Which is a better means than direct ing to lecturers. Nevertheless, the responses from lecturers are very spontaneous and the guidance is very constructive, which help us to think about different problems. EXAMS: Very innovative way. All exams are held in CBS computer labs, and we complete exams by typing in a word document (for more art subjects) and then upload or print out for submission. Most exams are open--- book and even allow for uploading files from USB drive to computers 15 minutes prior the exam starts. Since questions are mostly analytical, this helps us to reduce the pressure for memorising some facts but focus on the analysing parts. Also, as they are computer exams, we are sometimes required to use Excels during the exams.

Oral Exam: Innovative but I found that quite stressful indeed. I have been undergone one Oral exam, which is quite common in CBS. Oral exams are open based on a written paper that we had submitted, then the examiner will ask questions around the work you have submitted. Questions are not limited to what you have written in the paper, but also expand further to areas that could be related. Examiner sometimes place some challenges purposely to see how you handle such questions. It requires spontaneous response and deep understanding about the courses content. MBS INTERNATIONAL ADMINISTRATION SUPPORT TEAM Level of support, additional information that could have been useful There is adequate support which helps my enquiries all the time. Useful. MBS SECOND YEAR MEETINGS Any additional information that you feel could have been provided Quite useful in helping us to choose destinations we wanted to go. As information about different institutions and countries are quite adequate, this helped me to make my wise choice of going to Copenhagen for the exchange year. HOST INTERNATIONAL OFFICE Level of support, additional information that could be useful for future students Very exchange student friendly. As nearly half of the student in CBS are exchange students. International office is very helpful in handling different questions. They even provided for storage service as they know that exchange students used to travel a lot. INSURANCE, HEALTH COVER Please include any information relating to the purchase of compulsory health insurance i.e. costs etc. or whether this was waived by having the University of Manchester Insurance Policy I am not very sure about this area but registration to stay in the nation; we are assigned with one doctor to consult in case of any sickness or accident. INFORMATION ON ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS This should be information on any extra fees that the University charged but should not include accommodation, books, transport, visa etc. Nearly No. ACCOMMODATION As much information as possible on what accommodation is recommended or not recommended. TIETGENKOLLEGIET for sure. CBS offers different exchange student halls, which I have lived in one of them during the first semester (called the Holger Danskes). However, in the second semester I am very fortunate to be able to live in an architecture award winning student residence called the Tietgenkollegiet, even though CBS only allocate very limited rooms for exchange students. Tietgenkollegiet is a famous one throughout the world, mainly resided with local Danish students from IT--- University, Copenhagen University and Copenhagen Business School. This is a very socialise residence which organises different student activities in each semester. It is like a community, each of us has some role and responsibilities. For instance, we have something called the Kitchen Duty, where within our corridor (better say segment as the hall is in round shape) we take turns each week to have the kitchen duties, mainly about buying common goods, cleaning and most important, make a common dinner for everyone! So each week there are

always chance to see each other together at least once. Such a system or community spirit brought students closer and make exchange students feels very warm and welcomed. Also, living in a hall surrounded by local Danish is an interesting experience because I really get to know their culture, values and habits. They are very friendly, and our kitchen group just went for a cabin trip in one of our kitchen mate s home town. Her family even cooked us very very local Danish---Norwegian style of fish soup I have never saw! It s a very memorable experience that I have never been. DESTINATION INFORMATION AND OVERALL EXPERIENCE Transport, travel, social life, integration with local students, student activity groups A beautiful, modern and convenient city Copenhagen is. Social life have been awesome for me as I have met lot of local Danish students as well as international students. The residence helps me a lot in integration with local students, despite the language barriers. Traveling is one of the main dish for this year, I have been to many places in the Europe and the experience is valuable for me. DESCRIBE IN ONE SENTENCE YOUR YEAR ABROAD If choosing Copenhagen for your exchange year is wrong, who wants to be right? University Attended: Copenhagen Business School FEEDBACK 1 INDUCTION/ORIENTATION PROGRAMME What did this involve, how long did it last, was it useful? This lasted two weeks, the first being a complimentary social week for the Danish Language Crash Course which involved activities like bowling, movie night and international nights out which cost around 350kr ( 40). The Second week was for all international students and accompanied daytime activities like introduction meetings and tours of the campus. The evening activities involved mainly international nights out as well as a canal tour, Danish dancing and a welcome dinner, costing around 550kr ( 60). These weeks are important for meeting and socialising with international students, especially if living in private housing. The introduction weeks are the same for semester one and two and can become quite expensive. ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE Style of teaching, courses, ease of access to courses, methods of assessment, teaching support The style of teaching at CBS is completely different to that at Manchester. Lectures are normally 4 hours long with no workshops or seminars, however participation in lectures is strongly encouraged. Course selection is relatively easy with a similar online system to that of Manchester. In terms of examination, they vary from course to course. This could be in the form of coursework, oral exams or 4 hour open or closed book exams. MBS INTERNATIONAL TEAM Level of support, additional information that could have been useful Despite not needing to contact the MBS international team too often, I was more than satisfied with the level of support and knew I could contact them whenever necessary.

MBS SECOND YEAR MEETINGS Any additional information that you feel could have been provided I think the information provided was more than enough. Contact with students that were studying at CBS at the time may have been useful as well. HOST INTERNATIONAL OFFICE Level of support, additional information that could be useful for future students The level of support at CBS was sufficient however I didn t need to contact them too much. They were easily accessible and helpful with the completion of forms and course selection INSURANCE, HEALTH COVER Please include any information relating to the purchase of compulsory health insurance ie costs etc. or whether this was waived by having the University of Manchester Insurance Policy No additional insurance was purchased INFORMATION ON ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS This should be information on any extra fees that the University charged but should not include accommodation, books, transport, visa etc. The only extra fees related to the introduction weeks ACCOMMODATION As much information as possible on what accommodation is recommended or not recommended. The accommodation process proved to be fairly difficult, so ensure you know the deadlines and prior research is important. The halls of residence are typically quite expensive around kr per month. Although there are limited spaces available for international students, the most desirable halls by far is Tietgen which is modern, highly sociable and more reasonably priced as it is partially funded by the Danish Government. Additionally, Porcelaenshavn is an on-campus, all international student halls of residence with great location and the perfect halls for meeting new people, however it can be pricey depending on room type. Other recommend halls for international students are Katherine Kollegiet and Holger. I stayed in private housing with another CBS student which proved slightly cheaper (4250kr) and this was organised by the CBS Private housing team. If you end up in private housing, it is essential to go to the introduction weeks in both semesters as it is naturally harder to socialise when opting for private housing. DESTINATION INFORMATION AND OVERALL EXPERIENCE Transport, travel, social life, integration with local students, student activity groups Transport: The main method of travel in Copenhagen is by bike, however public transport is excellent. The metro waiting time during the day is never any longer than 3 minutes, with stops conveniently located throughout campus. Additionally, the S Tog is convenient for exploring further afield. The cost of a monthly 2-zone ticket (which is generally all you need) is 360kr ( 40) which includes the metro, S-Tog and Bus. Travel: As the gateway to Scandinavia, Copenhagen provides easy access to its surrounding cities. If booked in advance, destinations like Oslo (Ferry), Stockholm (Train/Flights) and Hamburg (Flights) are cheap to visit. Closer to Copenhagen, Malmo is just over the Oresund Bridge which is accessible by Train. Social Life: Social life in Copenhagen is really good, with the International crew organising weekly events. Although the nightlife can be quite expensive, there are always places offering deals and happy hours.

Integration with local students: This proved fairly difficult with most Danes sticking to themselves and within their friendship circles however if needed they are generally very friendly and helpful. DESCRIBE IN ONE SENTENCE YOUR YEAR ABROAD An unforgettable, life changing experience
