Introduction Remote Terminal Service (RTS) provides a secure way for authorized users to access Corporate internal network services over the Internet. RTS provides you with a personalized portal that is customized for you based on the credentials that you enter into the RTS. Prerequisites In order to access RTS from your PC, you and your PC must meet following prerequisites: 1. You are authorized and granted privilege to access RTS over the Internet as RTS requires your personal credentials to log onto the corporate network.. 2. Your PC must be Win9x/ME/XP/NT (SP6)/Win2k (SP2 or above)/windows Vista platform. 3. Your PC must be configured to connect to Internet via either 56Kbps modem or broadband. 4. Internet Explorer 5.5 or above with 128-bit Cipher Strength must be installed on your PC. 5. Your PC will be installed with RTS Client v 8.0 or later. The RTS portal is configured to check the existence and version of the RTS Client on your PC (not applicable to Windows Vista). If the RTS Client is too old or does not exist, the RTS portal will prompt you to download and install the updated one as stated in 2. Download and Install RTS Client for NT/XP/Win2k Professional. 6. If you are using Windows Vista, you have to manually download Remote Terminal Service (RTS) Client from and follow steps in Section 3 to install RTS Client on your Vista. Page 3
1. Logon Corporate Network via Internet 1.1 Connect your PC to Internet in accordance with your Internet Service Provider s (ISP) configuration guide. 1.2 After successful connection to the Internet, launch your IE and type into the Address field of your IE. 1.3 After a while, following screen (Figure 1) will appear. You have to fill in the various fields in the RTS portal. Figure Enter your LAN id into the Username field as depicted in Figure 2. The LAN id is case insensitive. 1.5 Enter the password of your LAN id into the Password field as depicted in Figure 2. Please note that the password is case sensitive and asterisks will be displayed instead of actual characters. 1.6 For former KCRC staff who have not migrated their LAN accounts, enter DKCRC (case insensitive) into the Domain field. For all other staff, enter MTRCORP (case insensitive) into the Domain field as depicted in Figure 2. Figure Click the Log In button as depicted in Figure 2 to log onto Corporate network. Page 4
2. Download and Install RTS Client for NT/XP/Win2K Professional If you are using Windows Vista, please follow the procedure in next section to install RTS Client. RTS Portal will detect the existence of the RTS Client on your PC (for Windows XP/NT/Win2K Professional only) after your logging onto the RTS Portal. If you don t have RTS Client installed on your PC or your RTS Client is prior to version 8.0, the RTS Portal will prompt you to download and install the updated RTS Client. However, please note that automatic installation of the RTS Client on Windows 2000 PC requires you to have administrative rights on your PC, or that the ActiveX control be registered in the Active Directory. 2.1 When you successfully log onto Corporate network and you are authorized users, you would be able to see a list of applications that you are eligible to access as depicted in Figure 3 below. Figure When you access to the RTS portal, the RTS portal will check the existence of the RTS Client on your local PC or the version of the RTS Client on you PC if it does exist. If no RTS Client or older version is detected on your local PC, you will be prompted to download and install the RTS Client as depicted in Figure 4 and Figure 5 respectively. Figure 4 Page 5
Figure Click Yes button for the Figure 4 and 5 to download and install the RTS Client automatically. The RTS Client will be installed into the directory c:\program files\citrix\icaweb32 of your local PC in default. At this moment, wait for the download and installation to complete. 2.4 Once the installation of RTS Client is completed, following screen, Figure 6, will appear and ask you to restart your Web browser (Internet Explorer in this case). Figure Click the OK button for Figure 6 to clear the message. 2.6 Close and restart your Internet Explorer. Page 6
3. Download and Install RTS Client for Windows Vista If you are using Windows Vista, please follow the steps in this section to install RTS Client on your Windows Vista. 3.1 Open Internet Explorer. 3.2 Download RTS Client from onto your Vista. 3.3 Double click the saved ica32web.msi. 3.4 The RTS Client prepares for installation as depicted below. Figure Click <Next> button for following screen to proceed. Figure Select I accept the license agreement and click <Next> button as depicted below. Figure Click <Next> button for following screen to start installation. Page 7
Figure Installation starts. Figure You have to wait for the installation to complete and click <Finish> button to complete as depicted in following figure. Figure Restart your Internet Explorer and you can then access RTS by following steps 1.1 to 1.7. Page 8
4. Access Applications on your Personalized RTS Portal 4.1 It is assumed that you have either followed Section 2 or Section 3 above to install RTS Client on your PC. 4.2 Follow steps 1.1 to 1.7 stated above to log onto Corporate network. 4.3 Once you log onto Corporate network via RTS Portal, you would see a list of applications that you are eligible to access. When this is the first time you access the application, you will come across following screen, Figure 13, during your first access to any application on the RTS Portal. You have to select Full Access and Never ask me again for any application options for this screen, and then click OK button to proceed. Figure There is a chance that you will come across following screen, Figure 14, what you should do is to click OK button to ignore this screen whenever you come across it. Figure For example, when you click the PMS (Property Management System) icon, you will be prompted to enter your PMS account and password as depicted in Figure 15. Page 9
Figure 15 After entering your application credentials, you would be able to use the application if you are authorized to run the application. Please note that application level credential is different from the RTS Portal credential, your application credential varies from application to application. 4.6 Some application may require installation of plug-in into the RTS backend server when you access that application. For instance, when you access Enterprise Portal, you will be prompted to install a plug-in into the RTS backend server as depicted in Figure 16. Figure 16 You should select the check-box Always trust content from MTR Corporation Limited and then click Yes button to accept the warning for Figure 16. Afterwards, the plug-in will be installed into your RTS backend server and the Enterprise Portal will be launched for you once the installation is completed as depicted in Figure 17 below. Page 10
Figure Idle (or inactivity) time-out has been configured and your RTS application (i.e. PMS, EIP, etc.) will be automatically terminated if you leave the RTS application idle for 2 hours. When the time-out timer is reached, a pop-up message will appear on your PC and reminds you of the time-out. Bring the RTS application active again can reset the time-out timer, otherwise your RTS application will be terminated automatically after 2 minutes of issuance of timeout reminder. Page 11
5. Change Your RTS Portal Logon Password You can change your RTS portal logon password as you wish and you are recommended to change the RTS portal password regularly. To change your RTS portal password, you have to log onto RTS portal first by following steps 1.1 to After logging onto RTS portal, you can click on the Change Password icon as depicted in Figure 18 to bring up the change password screen. Figure The change password screen appears and you have to enter your existing RTS portal password into the Old Password field and then enter your new password twice into the New Password and Confirm New Password respectively as depicted in Figure 19. Please note that the password is case sensitive and must be longer than 5 characters. You are recommended to use a strong password so never use easy to guess password. Figure 19 When you finish filling in the above fields, you should click the Submit button to change the password. The new password will take effect at your next logon to RTS Portal. If you are LAN user who can use computing facilities that directly connect to Corporate network in office, you should note that the RTS Portal logon password is also your Windows domain password (e.g. MTRCORP). Changing RTS Portal logon password means you change your Windows domain password as well. Your Windows domain password will not be synchronized with your Novell LAN server password when you change your Windows domain password from RTS Portal. Page 12
6. Change your RTS Personalized Portal Settings You can change your personalized RTS Portal settings such as display application description, change the application connection preference (i.e. display resolution 800x600, 1024x768, or customized display size, etc.) 6.1 To change the settings, you have to follow steps 1.1 to 1.7 to log onto RTS Portal beforehand. 6.2 When you are at RTS Portal, you can click the Settings icon to bring up Application Portal Settings as depicted in Figure 14. Figure When you bring up the Application Portal Settings, you can customize your RTS Portal and set your preference as depicted in Figure 21. Figure 21 When you configure settings in RTS Portal such as window size, the settings are stored as cookies on your PC. These settings are therefore remembered for all future applications launched using RTS Portal. However, because the cookies are stored on the your PC, you must access RTS Portal from the same PC each time to use the settings. Page 13
7. Printing from RTS Application When you logon RTS application, the printer driver of your local PC will be automatically created on the RTS backend server. The printer driver will be in the format of Client\your_NT_domain-your_id#\your_printer_model However, there is a chance that the RTS backend server fails to create printer driver for you when the printer driver installed locally to your PC is too new. Therefore, you are recommended to consult IT Help Desk at (852) or it-helpdesk@mtr.com.hk before buying any new model of printers if you want to use it with RTS. Page 14
8. Logout RTS Portal You should logout from RTS Portal when you no longer require access to the applications hosted at RTS Portal. To logout from RTS Portal, you should follow the steps below: 8.1 Click the Logout button located on the right top corner of the frame of the RTS Portal as depicted in Figure 22. Figure After clicking the Logout button, your RTS Portal connection will be terminated. It is always a good practice to logout your personalized RTS Portal whenever you don t need it. Page 15
