1 for Self-Install System Requirements The following is a list of the system hardware/software requirements needed when running the Self-Install version of TimeForce II on a client s local network. The following table details the minimum and recommended requirements for the machine(s) acting as the TimeForce web/database server. Note: TimeForce cannot be installed on the Domain Controller, Exchange Server, Share Point Server, or Small Business Server. 2 The TimeForce system uses a MS SQL 2008 database. SQL 2008, or higher SQL Server 2008 Express (included) SQL Server GB of RAM required. Computer must be a dedicated SQL Server 2008 machine TimeForce II is not yet supported on SQL 2012 The following steps must be performed on all Operating Systems: NOTE: You may have to change your view to icon and not category 2 From the Windows Start Menu, go to Control Panel Administrative Tools Services Right click on Distributed Transaction Coordinator service and select Properties. From the Startup Type drop-down menu, select Automatic. Click on the OK icon. Internet Information Services (IIS) Settings: IIS settings vary slightly de Operating System in use. Windows Vista: 1. Windows Start Menu Control Panel Programs and Features Internet Information Services. 2. Under "World Wide Web Services" select "Application Development Features" and select the following options:.net Extensibility ASP.NET ISAPI Extensions ISAPI Filters Server-Side Includes 3. Under "Common HTTP Features" select the following options: Default Document Static Content 4. From the Windows Start Menu, go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. Expand [Server Machine Name]->Sites->Default Web Site->TimeForceII The TimeForceII icon will look like a folder. Right-click on the TimeForceII icon and select 'Convert to Application' from the pop-up menu. Click 'OK' on the dialog box that pops up. You should now be able to open the TimeForce II site with a browser without error. 5. Click on the [OK] icon to save the changes that you have made Windows 2008 Server: 1. From the Windows Start Menu, "Administrative Tools" select "Server Manager." Scroll down to the Roles section, select the "Add a Role" option. 2. Select "Web Server (IIS)," select to "Add Required Features." 3. Click NEXT repeatedly until a screen appears asking which role services you would like to install for IIS. 4. Under Application Development, select "ASP.net." Ensure that the "Add Required Features" option is selected. This will add the ISAPI Extensions and Filters. 5. Select [NEXT] and then choose [INSTALL]. epending on the

3 The TimeForce system and its hardware and utilities use various ports of communication. You may need to open/forward the proper ports to ensuree the system s ability to communicate with your clocks, ClockLink, Live Lookup, etc. The following is a list of port numbers and their uses in the TimeForce system: 80-This port is used by IIS on the Default Website to host TimeForce II 5402-This port is used by ClockLink and Clock Server to communicate with your time clocks This port is used by ClockLink and Clock Server to communicate with the "TimeForce Punches Service" on the TimeForce II web server This port is used by ClockLink to communicate with the "TFNClockFacadeServer" service on the TimeForce II web server. TimeForce II should not be installed on a domain controlled. A client computer accesses the TimeForce program and database via a web browner. No program or database files are installed on client machines. Pentium GHz or faster processor 1GB of RAM Internet Explorer 7.0 SP1 or higher Internet access strongly recommended The computer must be able to access the TimeForce II web server over the network TimeForce is a web application. However, for most web server configurations and firewall\router setups, the default configurations will not allow TimeForce II to be available outside your Local Area Network via the Internet. Refer to the list of requirements for the type of clock that the client is using. Local (Serial) Clocks: Dedicated serial port required, or a Infinisource provided USB to Serial Cable Kit. From the Master time clock to the computer there is a maximum 250 feet cable length. There is a maximum of 4000 feet total cable length for concurrent clocks. The USB to Serial Cable Kit is only compatible with Windows 2000 or better. Modem Clocks: The time clock requires a dedicated analog phone line (digital phone lines are not compatible with the clock's analog modem). The desktop PC requires a 28.8kbs or faster modem. Ethernet Clocks: TCP/IP networks only The clock uses TCP port A static IP address is required. A minimum 56k LAN/WAN/Dial-up networking connection for the computer that is to download the clock. The clock requires a 10MB or 100MB Ethernet connection. Cat 5 cable or better, with a maximum cable length of 300 feet. Cat 3 cable is not recommendedd and may be unreliable. 3

4 Configure Windows System Requirements After TimeForce II is installed, some additional configuration will be required. Follow the steps below for the Operating System version you have installed TimeForce II on. Windows XP Professional/Windows Server 2003 (IIS 5.1/6.0) File System Permissions: 1. Browse to C:\inetpub\wwwroot. 2. Right-click on the TimeForceII directory and choose Properties from the menu. 3. Click on the Security Tab. 4. Under the Group or user names: list, click on Edit. 5. Under the Group or user names: list, click on Add. 6. In the Select Users, Computers, Service Accounts or Groups dialog, click Locations. 7. In the Location: list, click the Computer Name at the very top of the list and click OK. 8. In the Select Users or Groups dialog, click Advanced. 9. In the Select Users or Groups dialog, click Find Now. 10. In the Search Results: list, hold the Ctrl key and select all of the following accounts: IUSR_ComputerName IWAM_ComputerName IIS_WPG (Windows Server 2003 only) NETWORK SERVICE USERS 11. With the above accounts selected, click OK above the list. 12. Click OK in the Select Users or Groups dialog. 13. In the TimeForceII Properties dialog, select each account you added in step 10 one at a time and check the box under Allow Full Control. 14. Click Apply at the bottom. 15. Click the Advanced button and put a check in the box at the bottom next to Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects. 16. Click Apply, and then click OK. 17. Click OK on the TimeForceII Properties dialog. 18. Close the TimeForceII explorer window. Note: This configuration change will equire a system reboot. If your Security Policy prohibits changing DEP, see Appendix Right-click on My Computer icon and choose Properties. 2. Click on the Advanced tab. 3. In Performance, click Settings. 4. Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab. 5. Select the option: Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only. If this is already set then you can skip this step and close the dialog boxes. 6. Click OK. This change will prompt for the system to be restarted. 4

5 Windows Vista/ Windows 7 (IIS 7.0/7.5) File System Permissions: 1. Browse to C:\inetpub\wwwroot. 2. Right-click on the TimeForceII directory and choose Properties from the menu. 3. Click on the Security Tab. 4. Under the Group or user names: list, click on Edit. 5. Under the Group or user names: list, click on Add. 6. In the Select Users, Computers, Service Accounts or Groups dialog, click Locations. 7. In the Locations: list, click the Computer Name at the very top of the list and click OK. 8. In the Select Users or Groups dialog, click Advanced. 9. In the Select Users or Groups dialog, click Find Now. 10. Click OK in the Select Users or Groups dialog. 13. In the TimeForceII Properties dialog, select each account you added in step 10 one at a time and check the box under Allow Full Control. 14. Click Apply at the bottom. 15. Click Apply, and then click OK. 16. Click OK on the TimeForceII Properties dialog. 17. Close the TimeForceII explorer window. 7 Common Errors and Troubleshooting System Requirements The following sections detail some common errors a client may experience after a new migration and the solutions to them. Please contact your TimeForce Technical Support Manager for assistance If you encounter an error that is not listed in this section or if the suggested solution does not resolve it. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: MSDTC on server 'ComputerName\InstanceName' is unavailable. This error occurs when the Distributed Transaction Coordinator services is not started. Change the service's startup type and start the service by following these steps: 1. Open the Run box. 2. Type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. 3. Right-click the Distributed Transaction Coordinator service and select Properties. 4. Set the Startup type to Automatic. 5. Click the button labeled Start to start the service. 6. Click OK HTTP Error Internal Server Error Handler ".NET" has a bad module "ManagedPipelineHandler" in its module list This indicates that.net framework has not been properly registered with Internet Information Services. To resolve this open the command prompt as an administrator and run the following command line without the quotes. C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Fram mework\v \aspnet_regiis.exe I for 32 bit operating systems. C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Fram mework64\v \aspnet_regiis.exe I for 64 bit operating systems. Login failed for user 'sa' This means that the SQL username and/or password is incorrect, you will need to rerun the update and ensure you select custom installation. Type in the correct log in credentials for your SQL install. Server Error in /TimeForceII Application. Configuration Error Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'targetframework'. Note that attribute names are casethe dll. To resolve this: sensitive. This usually indicates that the.net extension is configured to use the wrong version of 1. Open Internet Information Services manager by choosing start, then Run, then type inetmgr and hit enter. 2. Expand the server name, then Web Sites, then Default Web Site. 3. Right click on TimeForceII and choose properties. 4. Choose the Virtual Directory Tab at the top and then click on the Configuration button. 5. Select the.net extension and choose edit. 6. Click Browse then browse to the following location: a. C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v for 32 bit systems. b. C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v for 64 bit systems. 7. Select aspnet_isapi.dll and choose open. 8. Click Ok on this window and each previous window to close them. 9. Exit IIS Manager. 7

8 Invalid login. Please try again. If you have successfully loaded the login screen after finishing your migration but it will not allow you to log in, you must first confirm that the login information you are using is not in error. If you are certain that you are using the correct login information and it will still not allow you to login, then you may need to run the most recent TimeForce update again. In some cases it requires two passes of the update to properly update all of the tables. 8
