Looking Back: Cumulative Assessment The Beginning-of-Year Assessment in the Assessment Handbook is a written assessment that you may use to gauge students readiness for the content they will encounter early in fifth grade. Input student data from Check and the Beginning-of-Year Assessment into the Assessment Management Spreadsheets. The curriculum frequently revisits topics, concepts, and skills. For this reason, the written assessment includes items recently introduced as well as items that assess long-term retention and mastery. The written assessment is only one part of a balanced assessment plan. Use it along with other assessment tools in the program. See the Assessment Handbook for additional information. Part A Recognizing Student Achievement The Recognizing Student Achievement, or summative, part of the written assessment is designed to help teachers assess students progress toward Grade 5 Goals. The items in this section can be used for grading purposes since the curriculum to this point has provided multiple exposures to the content of the problems that appear in this part.
