2 Development Program Day 1 Communicating Effectively: Maintaining Internal and External Stakeholder Relationships Stakeholder liaison, both internal and external, is a key part to any Executive Assistants job role and something that will be encountered on a daily basis. Whether it is over the phone, face to face or through an exchange, the ability to communicate effectively and manage relationships professionally and responsibly is imperative. Ultimately you are the voice of your leader, both context and choice of words impact how the message is interpreted by the recipient and being confident in delivering key messages via an effective manner is a must for all Executive Assistants. Possessing the power of personal example can sometimes be a great burden to bear, as the gatekeeper to your senior executive there are many strategies and tools and techniques to explore which will enable you to manage challenging people and address difficult conversations. Gaining a greater resilience and know how to tackle these situations when they arise, will ensure you have ultimate control and remain professional. The morning skills focus on day one will delve into the complexities of effective stakeholder relations, and communication strategies, including: Build on your confidence in order to navigate difficult conversations Increase the channels of communication that exist between yourself and your stakeholders Identify strategies to deliver and receive information in a professional manner Recognise the power of interpretation through different communication styles Develop credibility in order to communicate cross-functionally across different levels of management Achieve power of integrity through your professional language and communication style Keeping your Composure: Strategies to Develop Resilience and Overcome Difficult Scenarios Along with managing broader stakeholder relations, tackling tough conversations and people can be one of the most challenging parts of an Executive Assistants job, and if not approached with the appropriate finesse, can impact both yours and your manager s reputation and ability to perform their duties. 4 Development Intensive 2017 Day 3 Developing Emotional Intelligence to Aid Strategic Communication during Periods of High Stress Effective communication is key to managing conflict within a highly charged, emotional environment. EA s deal with a wide variety of different people on a daily basis so it is imperative to understand alternative ways to communicate. An adaptable approach is necessary to ensure relationships are managed tactfully. Having the capacity to be aware and in control of one s emotions, allows for greater ability to handle both professional and personal relationships effectively. A significant body of research supports that a strong link exists between leadership effectiveness and Emotional Intelligence, and as the voice of your executive it is imperative to both develop and hone skills that will enable emotional resilience within high-stress situations and difficult scenarios.
