To: Men s Gymnastics Community From: Dusty Ritter Junior Olympic Program Coordinator Kevin Mazeika National Team Coordinator Date: November 8, 2012 Re: Age Group Competition Program - Update #1 This document will serve as the clarifications/changes document for the Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program. The attached updates and replacement pages are the result of submissions from the community and the review of the Age Group Competition Committee, the Optional Rules Committee and the Age Group Compulsory Writing Committee. General Age Group Competition Updates: General Statement Regarding the FIG Code of Points The USA Gymnastics Age Group Competition Program will not implement the FIG junior competition rules regarding routine composition and the prohibition (non-permitting) of elements. Page 1.2 Age Group Competition Chart Note #4: Less than 6 recognized skills results in a 1.0 deduction from the D score for each missing skill. This deduction should be taken from the E score. Page 1.7 Section D #3 & E #5: Clarification of Vault landing and blocking surfaces (see notes). Page 2.2 Section H: General Spotting, Apparatus, & Behavioral deductions should be taken from the Final Score. Page 2.4 Section C #9 Specified Bonus Clarification: Specified bonus cannot be awarded if there is a single large error (0.5) or greater (1.0) in the execution of the skill. This rule applies unless specifically written as an exception in the individual event routine guidelines. Specified bonus may be awarded with multiple small and medium deductions totaling more than (0.5) in all cases except where a specific exception is written. Page 2.5 Section F #5 (b) Momentary holds clarification: (Strike FIG 0.5 deduction) Change to read Momentary holds are defined as holds that show a definite stop and are held up to one second. In the compulsory program skills designated as momentary holds that do not show a definite stop receive a (0.1) deduction. Page 2.5 Section E Routine error and deduction table: Non-recognized part 0.5 (plus all accrued execution errors) Change Deduction column to read: Element not recognized plus execution errors. Page #2.6 #9 (b.) Add to stick bonus (ii) The gymnast is allowed a rebound following the flyspring (bounder handspring) upon landing prior to the stick. Floor Exercise Compulsories: Page 3.8 Level 5 Part # 8 Description: Lift leg rearward with ¼ turn (90 degrees) either direction to cartwheel. Clarification: The gymnast may continue to turn past 90 degrees (180 degrees) upon entry to cartwheel. The cartwheel may be done from a sideward or forward facing position. Page 3.8 Part # 8 Level 5, Level 6 Page 3.10 Part # 8, Level 7 Page 3.12 Part # 5) Assemble Text Description: Clarification: The description should read assemble with ½ turn up to 3 steps to assemble with ½ turn to corner facing (B) USA Gymnastics Men s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program AGC Update #1 1

Page 3.10 (Level 6 FX): The Note referenced in Part #6 (prone support, straddle stand) under Virtuosity for Split is omitted. The Note explains execution for the insertion of the split for virtuosity bonus not shown on the video. Should read: In # 6, the gymnast should lower directly from the handstand to a split (center or side) for virtuosity. There is no hold required. The split should show position and presentation momentarily. The gymnast should then slide forward with his hands, bringing his legs together behind him in an extended position laying on the floor, circle his arms to his chest, push up to an arch front support and continuously lift to a straddle stand to continue the routine. The gymnast may then Press to the handstand from the straddle stand as required or perform the Endo roll press to handstand from the straddle stand for bonus. Pommel Horse Compulsories: Page 4.6, 4.7 & 4.8 Pendulum swing Description Strike the phrase degrees apart. Page 4.6 Part #4 Description Strike the phrase to rear support. Description should read Left leg cut forward and dismount to stand in front of the pommel horse. Page 4.7 Clarification on order of SB #2 or 3: As stated, the bonus skills #2 or 3 may be performed in either order. SB #1 must be performed first. Add to Note at bottom of page. Page 4.10 Part #6 Description: The left leg cut and undercut should be a right leg cut and undercut. The text is incorrect. Part #4 is left side Part # 6 is right side. Add: Feint with left leg for dismount. Page 4.11 Clarification: Add: Parts #3, 4, & 5 must be performed in succession. Add to note at top. Page 4.12 Part #6 Clarification on Level 7 Flank dismount (Performance criteria): There is no minimum height requirement for the flank dismount. Standard execution deductions otherwise apply. Page 4.12 Part #6: Clarification to Level 7 Routine: (Separate the back loop and the dismount as separate parts. Allow Schwabenflank dismount as a basic skill for use with composition options. There are some combinations of bonus options that would place the gymnast in the front loop position having completed all the basic requirements.) See notes below. Page 4.12 Part #6 One back loop. Remove Flank dismount from Part #6. Strike phrase: to flank dismount off the side to stand. from Description. Page 4.12 Add Part #7: Flank dismount (or Schwabenflank dismount). Page 4.12 *Note: Add the phrase A gymnast may not receive more than 2.0 points for Specified Bonus. Rings Compulsory Updates: Page 5.7 (Level 5) SB #3 (Stretched Inlocate): Clarification: The bonus for performing the inlocate may be awarded regardless of the number of small or medium execution errors for form, body position or angle. Add Note to read: The intent of the committee is to discourage athletes from performing the inlocate at this competitive level until he can perform a basic swing to the vertical angle at ring level. A gymnast may, however, perform the skill and receive credit for bonus minus execution deductions. (For example: A gymnast may still receive bonus credit regardless of the number of small or medium execution errors assessed even though they total more than (-0.5.) in deductions. Any single large FIG execution error - i.e. an inlocate with no rise - will result in no bonus awarded.) USA Gymnastics Men s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program AGC Update #1 2

Page 5.8 Level 6 Part #6 (Shoulder stand) Under Performance Criteria The shoulder stand is a required 2 second hold. Page 5.9 Level 6 Part #8 (Swing to inlocate stretched) Under Performance Criteria Should read: Turnover swing shown to inlocate stretched at bottom of ring level. Page 5.10 Level 7 Part #4 (press to shoulder stand) Under performance criteria Strike the word straddle this is a typo. Should read: From L-sit use pressing action and lower to shoulders. 2 sec. hold Page 5.11 Level 7 Part #6 (Uprise backward): Strike the support swing forward and backward. The uprise drops immediately from support to the backward roll in Part #7. The addition of the support swings in this part is a typographical error. The video of the Level 7 Basic routine is correct. Vault Compulsory Updates: Page 1.7 Level 4 & 5 Vault Mat specifications: Clarification The minimum landing surface is 20 (Page 1.6). Landing surface may be raised up to an additional 12 if desired (Page 1.7 Item # 5-a). The blocking surface may not exceed 12 above the height of the landing surface. Page 1.7 Item # 5-a: Level 4 & 5 Vault Equipment Recommendations: (1.) A panel mat stack or spotting box for blocking may be placed in front of the landing surface or on top of the landing surface as long as it does not exceed the allowable equipment specification measurement (2.) The landing surface itself may be used for the blocking surface at any height specified within the equipment specification allowance (3.) A coach may hold the blocking surface for support without deduction if desired. (See examples). Page 6.5 Level 4 Vault: Mat specifications Include mat specifications. Same as Level 5. Page 6.6 Level 5 Vault (Bounder handspring or Flyspring) Clarification: A rebound is allowed on the landing in order for the gymnast to control the landing. There is no deduction for the rebound (similar to the forward handspring on floor exercise). Add to read: Stick bonus may be awarded for a controlled landing and no movement of the feet after the rebound. Page 6.8 Level 7 Vault Table: Clarification The Modified table does not reflect the maximum score of each vault. The table should reflect the values as follows with the addition of a potential (0.7) for Virtuosity and Stick bonus: Vault Base Max Handspring sideward with ¼ twist Forward handspring Forward handspring with 1/1 twist Yamashita Yamashita with ½ twist Virtuosity +0.5 Stick Bonus USA Gymnastics Men s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program AGC Update #1 3

Parallel Bars Compulsory Updates: Page 7.5 Level 4 Box routine clarification: Level 4 gymnasts may use the box or mat equipment or the parallel bars to execute this routine. Add to note: Meet directors should advise participants in advance of the equipment to be provided. Both stations are not required. Page 7.5 Part # 7 Level 4 dismount: There is no penalty for dismounting between the bars. The swing backward prior to dismounting is subject to the same height requirement. (Example: A gymnast trains on a box equipment station and has not competed on the Parallel Bars. He is not required to flank over the bars having not learned the skill due to equipment limitations.) Page 7.6 Part #4 Level 5 routine: The text is correct. In the video, the gymnast omits the required upper arm swing after the back uprise from the long hang swing in the basic routine. Page 7.6, Specified Bonus #1: Performance Criteria Front Uprise Should read: Full extension of body and straight arms on forward uprise with feet at bar height. Page 7.6 Level 5 Specified Bonus #2: The V sit or Manna is required to be held 2 seconds if done in place of the L sit. Page 7.7 Part #10 Level 5 Dismount: Under Performance Criteria Should read: Swing forward to horizontal. Shifting of the opposite hand to the dismount bar is allowed. Page 7.8 Level 6 Part #6: The straddled L sit is required to be held 2 seconds. Page 7.11 Level 7 Specified Bonus # 2 & 3: These Specified Bonus skills may be performed in any order after Part #8. Should read: The gymnast may perform one intermediate swing between Specified Bonus skills #2, #3, or #4. Specified Bonus skills #2 and #3 may be performed in any order after Part #8. There is no height requirement for the allowed intermediate swing prior to or after these specified bonus skills. All other execution deductions apply to all swings. Horizontal Bar Compulsory Updates: Page 8.5 Level 4 Routine (swings): The routine is written for a low bar to assist facilities that do not have a High Bar. Clarification: Add to Note - The gymnast is required to swing with straight legs if the competition bar provided is high enough for the gymnast to swing with a fully extended body position. Page 8.6 Part #5 (Level 5) (Kip): Clarification on criteria The deduction for a coach assisting the gymnast to support during the execution of the kip shall not exceed (-0.5). The kip must be performed without assistance to immediate cast to receive the Specified Bonus. Page 8.7 (Level 5) Specified Bonus #3 (Tuck or Pike Flyaway): Change Performance criteria to read Must show hollow and distinct vertical lift on release and stretched body opening before landing. A layout flyaway is not permitted. Page 8.9 (Level 6) Specified Bonus #2 (Giant swings backward): Performance criteria should state To encourage the development of giant swings the specified bonus will be awarded for the successful completion of the giant swings backward with a maximum of (-0.5) for execution errors. This criteria is the same as written for Specified Bonus # USA Gymnastics Men s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program AGC Update #1 4

Two to three giants are required in Part #5 as stated correctly in the text. Page 8.11 (Level 7) Specified Bonus #2 & 3 (Endo, Stalder, Toe On Toe Off): Clarification The gymnast may perform either an early pike entry or a late drop entry from the handstand into SB # 2 and/or #3. The giant is counted (as though it were performed to the handstand) prior to the entry in either case. Page 8.11 Part #8 (Level 7 Dismount): In both Part #8 and Specified Bonus #3 the gymnast may perform a tuck, pike, or layout somersault dismount. Change performance criteria to read in both cases - Must show hollow and distinct vertical lift on release with a stretched body opening. Minimum height required without deduction is center of gravity at bar level. Age Group Competition Committee - Optional Rules Updates: Routine Construction Table for Levels 8 10: Page 2.8 Maximum Element Group Start Value: Add There is no restriction to the number of skills allowed per Element Group for all levels General Bonus: Page 2.8 Part B. #1 Execution Bonus: Add c. Execution bonus will be added to the start value. Execution bonus can only be awarded only if all element groups are fulfilled. Event Specific Bonus: Page 2.8 Section C: Event Specific Bonus Except where specifically defined, Event Specific Bonus cannot be awarded if there is a single large error (0.5) or fall (1.0) in the execution of the skill. Page 2.8 #1 Floor Exercise (b): Change to read - Level 10 gymnasts will receive an additional +0.1 in bonus (for a total of +0.2) for a double salto stretched (with or without twist). Page 2.9 #2 Pommel Horse (a & b): Pommel Horse Flair and Spindle Clarification: Add c. Any B or higher Flair with a Spindle will receive both bonuses for a total of +0.2 in bonus. Page 2.9 #2 Pommel Horse (d): Change to read - A full longitudinal cross support travel (Magyar or Sivado) with 1 extra circle in the saddle (4 hand placements for Magyar & 3 hand placements for Sivado) will receive E difficulty credit and Element Group III credit. Page 2.9 #2 Pommel Horse (e): Change to read - A full longitudinal cross support travel (Magyar or Sivado) with 2 extra circles in the saddle (6 hand placements for Magyar & 5 hand placements for Sivado) will receive F difficulty credit and Element Group III credit. This bonus skill, Magyar or Sivado direction, can only be performed one time. All other FIG rules apply USA Gymnastics Men s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program AGC Update #1 5

Page 2.9 #2 Pommel Horse (f): Note: An athlete may use both a bonus F and E travel (Magyar or Sivado) in his routine. (Example: F Magyar + E Sivado). He cannot use either 2 F or 2 E travels (Example: E Magyar + E Sivado). Page 2.9 #2 Pommel Horse: Add (g) to read: - The following sequences on one pommel: 1. Direct Stockli B (DSB) + Direct Stockli B (DSB) 2. Direct Stockli B (DSB) + Pommel loop 3. Pommel loop + Direct Stockli B (DSB) will receive C value and Element Group IV credit. These sequences count as flop sequences and will follow all FIG rules. Page 2.9 #3 Rings: Change to read - All Element Group III and IV B value or higher skills performed with a total of no more than -0.3 in deductions will receive +0.1 in bonus. Page 2.9 #6 Horizontal Bar (b): Change to read Any D value, Element Group II Flight Element, (strike the words except for Kovacs) will receive +0.2 in bonus. General Exceptions to the FIG Code of Points: Page 2.11 #5 Skill Exceptions (d): Change to read The one exception to this repetition rule is on Parallel Bars in all levels for the basket (peach) skills. Both a FIG value basket (peach) to handstand and the excepted B value basket (peach) with straight arms to support lower than 45 above horizontal may be used in a routine with each counting for difficulty. Page 2.11 #5 Skill Exceptions (f): Change to read - Example #2: A Level 8 gymnast performs both a FIG D basket (peach) to handstand and the excepted B basket (peach) with straight arms to support lower than 45 above horizontal in the same routine. Both will be counted for difficulty. Event Specific Exceptions to the FIG Code of Points: Page 2.12 #1 Floor Exercise (a): Change to read One landing mat of up to 10 cm (4 ) may be used for C value or greater skills for landings only. Using the landing mat to rebound or punch from is an apparatus deduction. The mat must remain in place throughout the routine. (This has now moved to Replacement Page 2.11) Page 2.12 #2 Pommel Horse (b): Clarification Any dismount skill that achieves a handstand will receive full Element Group V credit and a maximum of (0.5) in execution deductions. If the athlete uses his feet or legs to push off the horse to the handstand, neither difficulty nor Element Group V credit will be given. (This has now moved to Replacement Page 2.11) USA Gymnastics Men s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program AGC Update #1 6

Page 2.12 #2 Pommel Horse: Add (c). Any circle or flair to handstand dismount will receive a minimum of C value. (Note: If a B value or higher flair to handstand dismount is performed it does not receive an additional (+0.1) under the B or higher flair skills (+0.1) Bonus rule - (2.9 #2a). Page 2.12 #3 Rings: Add A forward or backward tucked salto dismount will receive A difficulty credit and Element Group V credit Page 2.13 Vault Value & Page 2.12 #4 Vault: Change to read Increase the start value of a Handspring forward and salto forward piked with a 1 2 twist to 4.0. (FIG vault 120, Group I, #20) Page 2.12 #5 Parallel Bars (a): Change to read Gymnasts at all levels may perform basket (peach) or giant with straight arms to support lower than 45 above horizontal and receive B difficulty credit and Element Group IV credit. FIG angle deductions will not apply, only general execution deductions. Page 2.12 #5 Parallel Bars (b): Change to read - Stutzkehre forward to 45 above horizontal will receive B difficulty credit and Element Group I credit. FIG angle deductions apply. Page 2.12 #5 Parallel Bars (d): Change to read Basket (peach) to handstand may be performed twice for difficulty credit (FIG COP page 118, #10). Page 2.12 #5 Parallel Bars (e): Change to read Allow empty (1/2) swing prior to performing Element III or IV skills. An intermediate (full) extra swing is not allowed. (Example: Glide kip to swing to 45 above horizontal, bail to Moy support, swing backwards to horizontal, drop to peach support. ) Page 2.12 #5 Parallel Bars: Add (f) A forward or backward tucked salto dismount will receive A difficulty credit and Element Group V credit Page 2.12 #6 Horizontal Bar (a): Change to read Any C or higher Element Group II - Flight Element may be repeated once in direct connection to itself or another C or higher Element Group II Flight Element. If not performed in direct connection, normal repetition rules apply. Examples: 1. Tkatchev straddled + Tkatchev straddled 2. Tkatchev straddled, giant, Tkatchev straddled + Gienger 3. Tkatchev straddled, giant, Tkatchev straddled - this would be repetition, no credit for second Tkatchev straddled. Page 2.12 #6 Horizontal Bar (b): Add example - 1/1 pirouette to El-grip swing through the bottom and hop to undergrip and continue to giant = C difficulty credit for 1/1 pirouette and A difficulty credit and Element Group IV credit for the hop. Page 2.12 #6 Horizontal Bar: Add c. Upon catching a release skill the gymnast is allowed to perform a swing with a ½ turn and change of grip on the subsequent swing forward to a kip without deduction. This swing ½ turn will receive A difficulty credit and no Element Group credit. Page 2.12 #6 Horizontal Bar: Add d. A maximum of up to five forward and backward body movements of which the 5 th movement must be a skill (Examples: stemme, free hip circle, Stalder, etc.) will be allowed without deduction. Inclusion of a back-uprise action, even to partial support, up to or on the 4 th movement will be allowed without deduction USA Gymnastics Men s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program AGC Update #1 7

Page 2.12 #6 Horizontal Bar: Add e. The Junior Program will allow the following values for a Jam in Element Group IV (see chart below). There are no angle deductions for these skills, only general execution errors: Jam Value 0-15 C C B Below horizontal A Page 2.12 #6 Horizontal Bar: Add f. A forward or backward tucked, piked, or stretched salto dismount will receive A difficulty credit and Element Group V credit. Page 2.13 Junior Olympic Exceptions to the FIG Code of Points Table Optional Rules: (Effect changes noted above.) Page 2.13 F #1. Floor Exercise (Restrictions): Strike (b) Level 10 gymnasts are allowed to perform only one C value or higher salto skill with head first roll-out. Revert to FIG rules. (Also, move (F.) at top of page to below table.) Technical Sequence Program: I. Global Rules: 1. Awarding Bonus Clarification: All Technical Sequence Bonus may only be awarded if there is -0.1 or less in execution deductions in each case. This is the same application rule as the AGC Program. 2. Recognizing Skills: A skill will be recognized as completed when it has been deemed to be more than 50% achieved. 3. Repeating Skills Clarification: The gymnast may not repeat a skill if he has completed it. If he fails to complete 50% of the skill he may chose to attempt it again. Any and all execution deductions apply. a. Exception (11-14 PH Sequence): Due to the unique nature of this PH composition the 50% completion rule does not apply to this sequence. In this case, the missing circle rule applies (see below). The gymnast will lose -0.5 for each missing circle. (Example: Gymnast performs 4 circles in the loop position, travels to the saddle, performs 2 circles in the saddle and falls or stops. The gymnast remounts in the back loop position and performs 4 circles and the flank dismount.) He receives -0.5 for each missing circle in the saddle and the cross-support travel (-1.5 total). In addition, he receives -0.5 for the fall and all execution errors on the partial part performed. In this case, the gymnast should remount from the last completed circle to avoid the missing circle deductions. 4. Omission of Parts: If a part is omitted it is a -0.5 deduction, unless it is listed as an identified numbered part (see list below) which will be a -2.0 deduction. II. Floor Exercise: 1. Change in the evaluation of arm position on ALL Round offs, Back Handsprings and Whips (11-14 & 15-18) Under Standard of Measurement (Pages 2.3 & 2.5): Deviation of arm position at floor contact, a flat deduction of -0.1 will be assessed for deviation from the following required position range; arms at shoulder level to arms in front of athlete s head when feet contact floor (If arms are in front of athlete s head or below, there is no deduction) USA Gymnastics Men s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program AGC Update #1 8

2. Clarification of evaluation of Pike in Dive Roll (11-14 & 15-18) Under Standard of Measurement (Pages 2.3 & 2.5): Pike in dive roll -0.2 min. Interpret as the minimum deduction for pike is The maximum deduction for pike is Change to angle requirement of Virtuosity Bonus #3 (11-14 & 15-18) Under Technical Emphasis Bonus Elements (Pages 2.2 & 2.4): In part #7. Body stretched at or above horizontal prior to landing pike-open backward salto. Will change to, Body stretched at or above 45 degrees above horizontal prior to landing pike-open backward salto. III. Pommel Horse: 1. Deduction for missing circle (11-14 & 15-18) The deduction for any missing circle is Clarification of Bonus (11-14): Under Technical Emphasis Bonus Elements (Page 3.2): In parts #1, #3 & #5 - Bonus is awarded for; hand placement parallel, ideal position and counter turn in rear support The gymnast must demonstrate ALL THREE REQUIREMENTS in all 4 circles in each part or section of the horse in order to receive bonus. 3. Clarification on Dismount (11-14): The flank dismount is on the end of the 4 th circle in part #5 and is not a separate 5 th circle in part #6 (Page 3.2). Note: if an athlete falls while attempting the flank dismount, upon remounting the horse he must include a circle prior to the flank dismount to receive credit (he may NOT just jump over the horse and receive credit for the flank dismount) 4. Clarification of hand placements for counting circles (11-14): Using counter clockwise circles as an example the count begins with the right hand placement after the first ¼ circle position. The second hand placement (left hand) then constitutes the completion of one circle in front support. 8 hand placements (4 circles to front support) should be completed before the travel begins to the next section of the horse. The count resumes with the first right hand placement when both hands are beyond the line dividing sections. Reverse this order for clockwise circles. IV. Still Rings: 1. Clarification of Bonus (11-14): Under Technical Emphasis Bonus Elements (Page 4.2): In part #7, Inverted cross position is interpreted as the minimum required height of the swing. The swing may continue to any height above the rings as long as it passes through the Inverted cross position and there is no stop position in the handstand. The gymnast may still receive bonus without going to handstand if he meets all the criteria. 2. Clarification on Part #6 (15-18): Under Description (Page 4.5), Part #6: Change (Stopping in the handstand is not allowed) to (Swing to handstand is allowed. Hold is allowed, but not required). This same wording should be changed on Page 4.6 under Change Desired column. Note: The gymnast may also receive bonus for a forward giant swing to handstand subject to the stated requirements for the technical execution of the basic swing. 3. Clarification added for excessive swinging of the cables: There will be no deduction for excessive swinging of the cables throughout the technical sequences for both age groups. V. Vault: 1. Clarification of requirements (15-18): Gymnast may choose to perform either the Handspring Pike Front or the Yurchenko vault. Only one vault is required. 2. Clarification of Bonus (11-14 & 15-18): Under Technical Emphasis Bonus Elements (Pages 5.2, 5.4 & 5.6): In part #5, Bonus is awarded for distinct rise in the vertical direction on the block from the table only, and not for amplitude in general in the post-flight USA Gymnastics Men s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program AGC Update #1 9

VI. 3. Change of block angle, on table contact, evaluation for All vaults: Under Standard of Measurement (Pages 5.3 & 5.5): Omit Body below 30 degrees of vertical on contact (-0.2) and on (Page 5.7) omit Below 45 degrees on contact with hands on table (-0.2). There will not be a table contact block angle deduction. Only body position and execution deductions will apply. 4. Change on repeating a Yamashita (11-14) post-flight evaluation: Under Standard of Measurement (Page 5.3) - Change Pike of less than 45 degrees from bottom vertical is an automatic 2.0 deduction and must repeat vault to Pike of less than 45 degrees from bottom vertical is an automatic 1.0 deduction, in addition to any and all other technical and execution deductions. Gymnast may NOT repeat vault. 5. Clarification on repeating a Yurchenko (15-18) post-flight evaluation: Under Standard of Measurement (Page 5.7) - Change Deviation of more than 61 degrees in body pike is an automatic 2.0 deduction and the athlete must repeat the vault to Deviation of more than 61 degrees in body pike (in other words the vault performed is classified as a PIKED Yurchenko) is an automatic 1.0 deduction, in addition to any and all other technical and execution deductions. Gymnast may NOT repeat vault. 6. A gymnast who aborts a vault attempt: An aborted attempt as determined by the judging panel will result in a 1.0 deduction and the gymnast may repeat the vault. Parallel Bars: 1. Change to height requirement for Peach (15-18) only: Under Description Part #6 (Page 6.4): After Peach Basket to support add (finish at horizontal). Minimum height required for no deduction for the finish position of the Peach is horizontal. Under Standard of Measurement (Page 6.5) add: Deviation from required height. 2. Clarification on Giant to handstand (11-14): A Hand on Hand spot will be allowed for the giant in the PB Technical Sequence. VII. Horizontal Bar: 1. Clarification on handstand position (11-14 & 15-18): The required angle for ALL handstand positions on High Bar is plus or minus 5 degrees from vertical. 2. Clarification for mount (11-14): Up to 5 movements are allowed for the Stemme to Hecht tap same rule as Age Group Competition program. 3. Change in the hop ½ turn requirement (11-14): Under Description Part #2 (Page 7.2): Change Swing and hop ½ turn to nominal handstand to Swing and hop ½ turn to 45 degrees or higher above horizontal. Under Standard of Measurement (Page 7.3) add: Deviation from 45 degrees above horizontal on hop ½ turn. 4. Clarification on DVD (15-18): The DVD shows the gymnast adding an extra giant after the free hip to handstand and before the Hop ½ turn. As stated in the text, the Hop ½ turn comes immediately after the Free Hip. There is no extra giant as shown in the DVD. 13 A. Spotting Deductions: 1. All spotting must be done by a USA Gymnastics Professional Member. 2. All spotting deductions should be taken from the Final Score. 3. If there is no spotter, when required, the routine may not begin. If the spotter walks away when required, deduct 0.3 and the coach will be warned that another infraction will disqualify all of his athletes on that event for that day. 4. Unless specifically stipulated in a compulsory routine (Level 4-7) as an allowable spot, if the spotter assists in the execution of the skill, deduct 1.0 for the spot and also deduct for any execution errors that occurred in the execution of the skill. The judge has the discretion to not recognize the skill if, in his opinion, the gymnast could not have completed the skill on his own. 5. If, during the exercise, an incidental brush or touch occurs between the spotter and the gymnast, without interrupting or assisting in the skill, there is no deduction. 6. A coach may not spot an athlete from a surface that is higher than the allowable competition surface. The head judge will not allow the athlete to compete if this rule is violated G. Videotape Review: There is no videotape review of routine performance for any score evaluation in the Men s Junior Olympic Age Group Competition Program. H. General Apparatus and Behavioral Deductions: 1. Falls: a. A fall onto or off of the apparatus will be deducted 1.0 in addition to any other execution errors. b. If the gymnast falls off of the apparatus, the judge announces that the gymnast has 30 seconds to remount the apparatus. c. The coach may ask the head judge if the gymnast received credit for the skill on which he fell. The head judge will answer the coach with a yes or no response. There will be no other discussion. d. A gymnast may repeat the skill to earn its value, for both optional and compulsory levels. This rule includes dismounts for both compulsory and optional competition. 2. If a coach speaks to the gymnast during his performance, a medium behavioral deduction of 0.3 should be taken from the gymnast s E score. This deduction will be taken only once during a routine. It is not a deduction for a coach to speak to his gymnast during the 30 second time between a fall and a re-mount of the apparatus for the continuation of his routine. 3. If a springboard is used inside the uprights to mount the parallel bars, it must be removed as soon as the mount is completed (for the safety of the gymnast), or there will be an apparatus related violation of All Apparatus and Behavioral deductions should be taken from the Final Score. I. Landing Deductions: All landing deductions are as per FIG. AGC RP 2.2

C. Specified Bonus: (Continued) 5. As the gymnast progresses to higher levels of compulsory competition he gains a larger repertoire, background of experience, and a higher level of fitness. Therefore, a greater number of opportunities for specified performance bonus are offered. 6. There are two reasons for offering more specified bonus opportunities as the compulsory levels increase. First, the gymnast s increased level of fitness and skill foundation warrants making greater opportunity accessible. Second, the expanded opportunity for specified performance bonus helps to prepare the gymnast for the transition to the next level and/or eventually optional competition. 7. The routines have been designed in such a way that at least one of the specified bonus skills is a little easier to achieve than the others in order to encourage each athlete s development. 8. The value of the specified bonus skills is (+0.5) each. 9. Specified bonus cannot be awarded if there is a single large error (0.5) or fall (1.0) in the execution of the skill. This rule applies unless specifically written as an exception in the individual event routine description. Specified bonus may be awarded when multiple small (0.1) and medium (0.3) deductions are taken even when they total more than (0.5). 10. There should be a purposeful balance between encouraging a talented athlete s development and clean execution of basics. If a gymnast can successfully perform a specified bonus skill with a medium (0.3) or less deduction he would be rewarded slightly for his higher level of achievement. Poor execution will negate the advantage. Officials are encouraged to take appropriate and fair execution deductions for the performance of the skill. Therefore, this program is designed to encourage an athlete s skill development and provide opportunities for specified bonus in each routine while maintaining a standard of risk vs. reward that is equitable within the overall context of the program. 11. The transition to optional competition is a difficult one for most gymnasts. When a gymnast becomes age eligible for optional competition he may lack both the variety of optional skills as well as the level of difficulty that would allow him to be competitive as an optional gymnast. The program is designed to provide more opportunity for the growth and development of the gymnast s skill repertoire as well as provide a core construction that can serve as the basis of an optional routine. The Level 7 compulsories have been designed as a tool to help bridge the gap between compulsory and optional competition and encourage each athlete to make the transition at a time that is appropriate for him. Therefore, this level has been designed with basic routines that serve as the core for a modified optional approach. D. Virtuosity: 1. This program has been designed to increase the potential for virtuosity to a maximum of 0.5 in each routine. 2. In order to help the coach, athlete, and judge set standards for virtuosity bonus specific benchmarks for performance have been identified in each routine. Virtuosity bonus is generally intended for levels of artistic or technical excellence or amplitude rather than for doing a more difficult skill. 3. There are three identified virtuosity elements in each routine (+0.1) can awarded for each element. 4. The standard is up to (+0.5) available for the routine as a whole. These virtuosity elements have been identified both to encourage the athlete and coach to seek this benchmark as well as to give our judges a clear direction and objective standard to use when awarding this bonus. 5. In designing this program our judges will still have at their discretion, as they have in the past, the ability to reward a gymnast for demonstrating any special impression of artistic excellence that may set him apart from other athletes. An additional, non identified (0.2) are available and may be awarded at any point in the routine. 6. In all cases, virtuosity can be awarded for any qualified execution of a skill with (0.1) small deduction or less in execution. E. Stick Bonus: 1. All stuck landings to the feet are awarded +0.2 in Stick Bonus. 2. On Level 4 6 Pommel Horse the stick bonus is divided between the two apparatus, +0.1 for mushroom and +0.1 for pommel horse can be awarded for stuck landings. AGC RP 2.4

Routine Error and Deduction Table: Table of Routine Errors and Deductions Error Deduction Missing part 1.0 Non-Recognized part Routine Composition Error Element not recognized plus execution errors 0.5 (to be taken once per routine) Fall (as per FIG) 1.0 Large error (as per FIG) 0.5 Medium error (as per FIG) 0.3 Small error (as per FIG) 0.1 Empty and Intermediate swings (as per FIG) Empty (½) - 0.3, Intermediate (Full) F. Specific Judging Guidelines: 1. Explanation of Part & Routine Composition Error: a. A part is defined as a numbered skill or sequence in the routine Description for each level in Chapters 3 through 8 of this manual. b. A part is a missing part if it has been omitted or is performed in such a way as to be unrecognizable. c. If the part is partially completed (more than 50%) it should receive credit and the appropriate FIG deductions (small, medium, large or fall). d. Added parts such as circles on mushroom or pommel horse and extra giant swings on horizontal bar should be treated as a Routine Composition Error. e. A Routine Composition Error includes any and all added parts such as circles on mushroom or pommel horse and extra giant swings on horizontal bar, the exception being added swings, empty and intermediate swings as defined by FIG, which will be deducted as per FIG. The Routine Composition Error also encompasses routine elements performed in the incorrect order. The deduction is a 0.5 global deduction that should only be taken once per routine in addition to any execution deductions. 2. Handstands: A nominal handstand is shown at plus or minus 15 from vertical. The junior program will use FIG rules concerning swings to or through handstand or to strength holds. 3. Swing and Position Criteria: All swing and position required criteria are defined as one of the following: a. Horizontal b. 45 c. Vertical 4. Added swings: Added swings will be treated as per FIG as empty (½) swing (0.3 deduction), or intermediate (full) swing (0.5 deduction), not as an added part or with the Routine Composition Error. 5. Required holds: a. Holds are two seconds, unless noted. Hold deductions are per FIG. b. Momentary holds are defined as holds which show a definite stop and are held up to one second. Momentary holds that do not show a definite stop, receive the FIG deduction for no hold of 0.5 (large deduction). 6. Added Holds: a. Added holds are to be deducted as rhythm errors and not as added parts. b. Multiple added holds will be treated as a Routine Composition Error and will be subject to a one-time large error deduction of 0.5. AGC RP 2.5

7. Steps: a. There is no requirement specifying the number of steps in the run prior to tumbling sequences in floor exercise routines. b. If a run is specified then at least one step must be taken prior to the hurdle otherwise a small deduction of 0.1 will be taken. c. A gymnast may take as many or as few steps as is necessary to execute the routine within the defined limits of the floor exercise mat. 8. Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Parallel Bars & Horizontal Bar Bonus: a. Specified Bonus: i. Award +0.5 per specified bonus skill or sequence for performance as indicated in the compulsory routine text described in the following Chapters 3-8. ii. Bonus will not be awarded for a skill with a single large deduction with the exception of the specified bonus giant swings on horizontal bar. If the giant swings are attempted, specified bonus will be awarded if there is not a fall. iii. Specified bonus skills may only be attempted once to receive the bonus. b. Virtuosity Bonus: i. Award a total of +0.5 for virtuous elements with a small (0.1 or less) deduction. ii. Individual skills may be awarded virtuosity bonus, to a maximum of +0.1 per skill. iii. Each compulsory routine has three identified virtuosity elements. iv. An additional +0.2 of virtuosity bonus can be awarded at the discretion of the judge for elements showing extreme amplitude or virtuous performance. c. Stick Bonus: i. Award +0.2 for stuck dismounts on Floor Exercise, Still Rings, Parallel Bars & Horizontal Bar. ii. On Pommel Horse, the stick bonus is divided between the two apparatus, +0.1 awarded for sticking the landing off mushroom and +0.1 awarded for sticking the landing off pommel horse for a total of up to Vault Bonus: a. Virtuosity Bonus: Award up to +0.5 for exceptional power and/or efficient blocking action resulting in exceptional rise (height and/or distance) in the vault second (post) flight. Virtuosity may be awarded in increments of small (+0.1), medium (+0.3) or large (+0.5) bonus singly or in combination not to exceed the 0.5 maximum. b. Stick Bonus: i. Award +0.2 for stuck landings to the feet. ii. For Level 5 Vault Flyspring (Bounder Handspring) the gymnast is allowed a rebound prior to sticking the dismount. 10. Salto Height: All salto heights (Floor Exercise and dismounts) are measured from the center of mass. Center of mass is defined as the point around which the body is rotating in space during the execution of the salto. 11. Pommel Horse: a. On all single leg cuts, the top leg (cutting leg) should be at minimum horizontal with the hips fully extended. b. On all pendulum swings, false scissors and scissors, the top leg should be at minimum horizontal with the hips fully extended. c. Unless otherwise specified, all elements, compulsory or optional, begin and end in front support as per FIG. 12. Still Rings: Unless otherwise specified all basic swings on Still Rings should show a turnover action. See Chapter 5 Still Rings, Section I Compulsory Levels 3-7 Overview and Explanations, Paragraph C Basic Technique: Basic Swing for a full description. AGC RP 2.6
