2 Conditionals First Conditional

3 Conditionals First Conditional We use the first conditional to talk about a possible future action, or situation. Examples; If the tickets are expensive, we won t buy them. If it rains, we will get wet.

4 Conditionals First Conditional If + The Present Simple, The Future (will/won t) + main verb. Examples; If you study hard, you ll pass the exam. If you help me, I ll finish the work. If you don t work hard, you ll lose you job.

5 Conditionals First Conditional Condition (If + Present Tense) If you help me, If she doesn t come home early, Result (will/won t + infinitive without to) I ll finish the work. I ll phone her.

6 Conditionals First Conditional We can also change the order of the sentence, like this: If it rains, we will get wet. We will get wet, if it rains.

7 Conditionals More examples; I ll wash the dishes if you cook the meal. If you lend me some money, I ll buy it. If you graduate from college, you ll find a job. I ll be happy if you come with me.

8 Conditionals Second Conditional

9 Conditionals Second Conditional We use the second conditional for present situations that are not like to happen. Examples; If I had lots of money, I would buy a big house. If she was here, she would come with us, too. If I had wings, I d fly all over the world.

10 Conditionals Second Conditional If + The Past Simple, would (wouldn t) + main verb. Examples; well. If you went to England, you d learn English If I earned a lot of money, I d travel round the world.

11 Conditionals First Conditional Condition (If + Past Simple) If I had lots of money, If I had a car, Result (would/wouldn t + infinitive without to) I d (would) buy a big house. I wouldn t take the bus.

12 Conditionals First Conditional We can also change the order of the sentence, like this: If I had wings, I d travel round the world. I d travel round the world. if I had wings

13 Conditionals If I were you, I d. If I were you, I d send him a text message. If you were taller, you d be a successful basketball player. If I were you, I d see a doctor.

15 Conditionals Third Conditional We use the third conditional when we talk about the past. We talk about a condition that did not happen. The third conditional is also like a dream, but with no possibility of the dream coming true. Examples; If I had won the lottery, I would have bought a car. If I had seen Mary, I would have told her.

16 Conditionals Third Conditional Condition (If + Past Perfect) If I had known the truth, If we had run, Result (would have + Past Participle) I wouldn t have talked to her. we would have caught the bus.
