2 Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education GLOBE has been a pioneer in undergraduate business education in Hong Kong and also in the international education arena. It offers an internationally oriented curriculum and opportunities for students to develop distinct global business acumen, cultural fluency and an entrepreneurial mindset, which are vital for success in the business world nowadays. Unlike other exchange opportunities, GLOBE is innovative in its provision of multicultural experience and long-lasting network to students from different parts of the world as an international cohort through a structured exchange program. Every year, each of the three partner schools admits 18 students. An international cohort of students will study together in Copenhagen, Hong Kong and Chapel Hill. Students are exposed to different settings across three continents for developing their global mindset through a comprehensive and internationally oriented curriculum and other experiential learning. Their overseas living experience in Denmark and the U.S. broadens their horizons and allows them to fully integrate into the local culture. Their class-based learning is further reinforced by study trips to Europe, Asia and the U.S. Attending executive briefings at selected organizations enables students to get firsthand perspectives from those working in a global setting. In this way, students can learn how different corporations adapt to the global environment and how cultural differences influence business operations. GLOBE not only provides learning opportunities for students, but also a nonpareil platform to amass top students from three continents together. Such an international network will surely bring lifetime benefits to students. 3 Three Top Business Schools from Three Continents CUHK Business School (CUHK) Being the first business school in Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong Business School is recognized as one of the leading business schools in Asia. It has received numerous awards for its dedication to provide world-class business education that attains international recognition. In 2011, its EMBA Program was ranked No.14 among 100 EMBA programs worldwide by the Financial Times. The University of Texas-Dallas in 2011 ranked CUHK Business School No. 1 worldwide in international business research, based on publication counts in Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS). COPENHAGEN UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School (UNC) The Kenan-Flagler Business School of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is one of the world s best business schools. It is therefore critical for business undergraduates to learn to be versatile and equipped with diverse cultural knowledge to face the dynamic and challenging business world. More privileged to other students in Hong Kong, GLOBE students have the unique opportunity to step out of Asia and have a taste of studying and living in both Europe and North America. These cross country experiences enrich students learning by giving them ample avenues to explore different cultural heritages with their peers from two other continents as a cohort. Learning how to work in an international group is also crucial these days. GLOBE students can learn how to cooperate with teammates from different cultural backgrounds through having lessons, doing projects and engaging in discussions with promising students from CBS and UNC. Also, interaction with other elites motivates students to further explore and develop their goals and strengths, and build up their confidence in their abilities. Truly, the convergence of 54 brilliant minds creates a platform for exchange of ideas, innovations and aspirations. The strong bonding between GLOBE students is indeed a coveted advantage. GLOBE Study Trips Apart from attending classes together at the three top-ranked business schools, GLOBE students participate in study trips in Asia, Europe and the U.S. with visits to selected organizations and executive briefings to further reinforce their classroom learning. This exceptional feature helps expose students to different management styles and business operations around the world. An orientation trip is arranged every August for Year 1 students before they start their university studies. Intercultural challenges and international learning experiences have equipped me with the knowledge of where other cultures come from and expanded my worldview. Victor Kwok (2011/12 Cohort) Truly living in the word Globetrotting University has been a great place for me to acquire textbook knowledge and business theories. However, for some of the most important lessons in life, they can never be expressed in black and white. Rather, the lessons must be experienced by oneself. Studying across 3 continents with an international group of students in GLOBE allows me to reach out to people with different beliefs and world views. In every conversation happened during my GLOBE journey, my Danish and American peers have never failed to amaze me with their fresh perspectives they bring to the table. Students seeking admission on the strength of their Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination results must have obtained the following requirements: (1) A minimum TOEFL score at 600 (paper) / 250 (computer) / 100 (internet) or a minimum IELTS score at 7.0* or native speaker documentation, AND (2) Level 3 or above in Mathematics, Liberal Studies and best 2 electives; AND Level 5 or above in Chinese Language and English Language. For non-jupas applicants, their applications will be considered case by case, provided that they have obtained the above mentioned minimum TOEFL or IELTS score. *Applicants should have obtained the required TOEFL or IELTS standard before the interview.
