2 OUR MISSION Best Buddies International is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). OUR MOVEMENT Best Buddies International is the world s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our programs help people with IDD form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society. WHO WE SERVE The IDD community that Best Buddies serves includes, but is not limited to, people with Down Syndrome, Autism, Fragile X, Williams Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, traumatic brain injury and other undiagnosed disabilities. BEST BUDDIES PROGRAMS BESTBUDDIES Jobs matches skilled, qualified individuals with IDD with businesses seeking enthusiastic and dedicated employees. Through the Jobs program, Best Buddies develops partnerships with employers, assists with the hiring process and provides ongoing support to the employee and employer. BESTBUDDIES Ambassadors offers people with IDD the opportunity to gain the public speaking skills, self-esteem and confidence needed to successfully advocate for themselves, their peers and Best Buddies in communities, workplaces and government. Educates and empowers people with and without IDD, to become leaders, public speakers and advocates. BESTBUDDIES Middle School, High School and College creates an inclusive school environment for students with IDD during times of social and emotional development. BESTBUDDIES Promoters empowers youth to become advocates for people with IDD and help open new Best Buddies chapters and programs by organizing special events that promote awareness to the disability rights movement. BESTBUDDIES Citizens helps adults with and without IDD develop meaningful friendships and become more involved in their local communities. e-buddies offers an program, in which a participant with IDD communicates online with a friend without IDD. 3 The Best Buddies Friendship Walk (BBFW) is a powerful hallmark event that supports inclusion and acceptance for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our walks have a profound impact in our local communities as participants walk for inclusion, friendship, leadership, and opportunity for people with IDD. The Best Buddies Friendship Walks provide opportunities to see our mission in action at a local level. Proceeds from BBFW play a key role in funding our local programs which provide one-to-one friendships, leadership development and integrated job opportunities for individuals with IDD. Since the Best Buddies Friendship Walk s inception in 2009, more than 70, 000 participants in over 26 states have walked and raised over $7,000,000 for Best Buddies. The Best Buddies Friendship Walks are an opportunity to engage and connect with your community, unite employees with a team building activity, market your goods and services to a loyal audience, and become part of a worldwide movement to create life-changing opportunities for people with IDD. 4 NATIONAL SUMMARY Total Goal: $2,542,375 Total Raised: $2,322,442 DEDICATION TO THE FUTURE The Best Buddies Friendship Walk commitment is to spread the word of our mission and impact. In order to do so, we must continue to grow support across the nation through growth in number of walkers, and growth in funds to support our local programs. In the next five years, we are committed to doubling our number of walkers to reaching over 50,000 annually in order to build awareness and support in communities around the United States. Additionally the number of walks will grow to support the number of offices, with the goal of reaching all 50 states in the future.
