Visin = what utcmes are yu lking t achieve with yur students? Missin = what will yu d every day t make sure that visin is achieved?

2 2. Cnsider preventative methds f classrm management. Classrm management is nt just abut punishing students wh behave prly. It is als abut practicing preventative measures that help yu get cntrl f a classrm befre smene misbehaves. (SEE NOTE CATCHER) DESCRIBE HOW YOU WILL.. Set the tne n the first day f class. Start building relatinships with yur students by being friendly and getting t knw each ther. Share the rules and cnsequences s they knw up frnt hw yu expect them t behave. Rm Arrangement 1. General classrm arrangement 2. Walls Create a psitive classrm envirnment. Encurage students t participate and acknwledge their cntributins. Treat ne anther with respect. Utilize a variety f teaching methds. Students learn in different ways. Use a mixture f lecture, small grups, activities, games, and multimedia. Set yur prcedures and rutines within the first tw weeks. (Agenda/Daily schedule Fire drills, lck dwns, etc.) Review these when needed especially after Winter and Spring Break. Stick t a rutine. This lets students knw what t expect each day in class. While mving away frm the rutine peridically can be effective fr special days, ding it ften causes students t be unprepared.

3 3. Define 3-5 classrm rules. It is imprtant that yu fllw these rules, t. Set the example fr students and let them knw they can trust yu t keep yur wrd. List these in yur plan. Fcus n sme themes r big ideas. Fr example, respect and integrity are cmmn values in classrm settings. 1. Keep the number t a minimum. 2. Keep the wrding simple. 3. Have rules represent yur basic expectatins. 4. Keep the wrding psitive. 5. Make yur rules describe behavir that is bservable, measurable. 6. Keep the rules psted Get specific. Big themes are helpful, but nly if they are translated int specific behavirs. Fr example, respect can be demnstrated thrugh shwing up n time, nt interrupting thers, keeping cell phnes and ther electrnic devices put away, and paying attentin. Create the rules tgether. At the very least, explain yur rules and then discuss them with yur class. This allws them t cntribute and gives them sme wnership f the class. Examples: Less Effective Rules: Be respnsible Pay attentin D yur best Be kind t thers Respect authrity Be plite Mre Effective Rules: Keep hands, feet, and bjects t yurself. Raise yur hand and wait fr permissin t speak. Sit in yur seat unless yu have permissin t leave. Walk, dn t run at all times in the classrm.

4 4. Incrprate schl plicies and prcedures that are aligned t the psitive behaviral supprts plan. Build ff these and incrprate yur wn plicies, prcedures and rules t create a psitive classrm envirnment fr yur students.

These can be explained the first day f class, put n a pster in the classrm, r included in the curse syllabus. Be as specific as pssible. Then be sure t fllw thrugh.
