1 GypWall TM SECURE GypWall SECURE is a robust but lightweight, non-loadbearing security wall, combining good levels of fire resistance with strength and security to offer a system which maintains a high level of resistance to determined attack. GypWall SECURE comprises Gyproc Security Sheet - a trapezoidal galvanised sheet steel section - which is secured to Gyproc GA4 Steel Angles at the head and base. 3 PERFORMANCE Environmental Gyproc GypWall SECURE is unsuitable for use in areas subject to continuously damp or humid conditions. Plasterboards are not suitable for use in temperatures above 49ºC but can be subjected to freezing conditions without risk of damage. Fire protection Gyproc MultiBoard is non-combustible when tested to BS 476: Part 4: 1970 (1984). The board surfaces also achieve a Class 0 rating for the purposes of national Building Regulations. Fire resistance The fire resistances given in Table 2 are for imperforate walls tested to BS 476: Part 8: 1972 or BS 476: Part 22: 1987 or are assessments based on these tests. Sound insulation The R w ratings given in Table 2 are for imperforate partitions and have been tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 140-3: 1995, and rated in accordance with BS EN ISO 717-1: 1997 or assessments based on these tests. Airtightness is essential for optimum sound insulation. While most junctions will be sealed by standard jointing materials, gaps at the base of the wall and other small airpaths can be sealed using Gyproc Sealant. Partition duty strength and robustness The duty rating given in Table 2 has been estimated to comply with BS 5234: Parts 1 and 2: The rating is a measure of the ability of the partition to meet the requirements of four strength and robustness tests: door slam, soft body impact, hard body impact and stiffness. It relates to the level of activity in adjacent areas and the degree of care likely to be exercised in them. The requirements are for partitions complete with their surface finishes where these are part of the partition specification. Other optional tests may also apply (not including security). Using the duty of a particular wall the designer can select a wall for its area of use (with due consideration for fire and sound requirements). Severe duty should be specified in heavy industrial or major circulation areas. DESIGN Refer to section 3.1 Introduction, for general considerations. Planning key factors The overall partition width is 70mm, subject to tolerances on associated materials. Maximum heights The criteria to determine the recommended maximum partition heights are based on a limiting deflection of L/240 at 200Pa, together with criteria within BS 5234: Parts 1 & 2: Contact the Technical Sales Department for guidance. Security The excellent mechanical properties of Gyproc MultiBoard, combined with the stiffness and resilience of the Security Sheet, make Gyproc GypWall SECURE a formidable barrier to entry. It has a high resistance to determined attack and vandalism using hand tools, and good resistance to attack using power tools. Ad-hoc tests have been carried out at British Gypsum s Building Test Centre. A determined attack by a team of 4 using hand tools did not achieve through penetration until approximately 10 minutes. Where even greater resistance to attack is required, 0.7mm flat galvanised steel sheet (by others) can be fixed to Gyproc Security Sheet prior to boarding. Cavity barriers Continuous steel angles at the head and base provide horizontal cavity barriers, whilst the ribs in the security sheet provide a vertical cavity barrier to the passage of flames. Head and base fixing Gyproc GA4 Angles are fixed to the sub-structure using suitable proprietary fixings (e.g. Rawl R-SPT Throughbolt) at 300mm centres. 182

4 T F E enquiries@gyproc.ie Services Whilst services can be installed, these should be kept to a minimum. The installation of services should be carried out in accordance with all available standards, guidelines and recommendations. Services are easily accommodated vertically between the ribs of the sheeting. Holes can be formed in the security sheeting to enable services to be passed horizontally. These should be minimised in order to maintain structural performance and where possible service penetrations should be concealed either above suspended ceiling level or behind an associated lining. Fixtures Lightweight fixtures can be made directly into Gyproc MultiBoard. Medium weight fixtures can be made through the lining into the high points of the security sheet core. Board finishing Refer to section Finishing Coat Plasters, section Jointing, and section Decorative effects. Estimating The estimated construction time is 0.5m 2 / man hour ready for finishing. CONSTRUCTION DETAILS Contact the Technical Sales Department for suitable detailing. INSTALLATION General It is important to observe appropriate Health and Safety legislation when working on site, i.e. protective clothing and equipment, etc. Gyproc GypWall SECURE should be installed in accordance with all available legislation, standards, guidelines and regulations. The quoted performances are achieved only if Gypsum Industries components are used throughout, and the Company s fixing recommendations are strictly observed.
