1 Thank you for taking this worship guide home. We hope and pray that it serves as an important tool that helps your family grow in love for our Savior. Our prayer for Crossroad s families is that our homes would be places of worship and spiritual growth. As we approach Resurrection Sunday, lets focus on the events that led to the cross and make our homes such a place. Throughout this worship guide, you will be asked to join us as we share our worship experiences with our families and the world! In each lesson you will be prompted to use social media to reflect and celebrate what Christ is doing in the life of your family. Please take advantage of these moments as we spur each other toward love, good works, worship and testifying of Christ s greatness and Glory (Hebrews 10:24). Feel free to make this family worship guide your own. Most of these sessions have been designed to last between 10 to 15 minutes but can be adapted to the length best for your family. Use this guide as a road map of suggestions, adding to it the unique characteristics that will lead your family well. May Christ richly bless your family as you reflect on Him and His sacrifice. Bro. 2 Day 1 Sunday, March 29, 2015 Theme: Triumphal Entry Do: If you can, watch this video about Palm Sunday. Ask: What do you remember from today s sermon? Read: Mark 11:1-11 Say: Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, for the Passover celebration, as the people praised Him with palm branches, shouting, Hosanna! which means, Lord, save us! Ask: How can we continue to praise and worship Jesus today and throughout the rest of this week? Ask: What are things God saves us from today? Do: Take your palm branch and place it in a visible place in your house. Place it where it will be noticed most often (mantle, refrigerator, on the wall). When you look at it offer Christ your praise. Take a picture of it and post it on social media: #familybiblestudy #holyweek@crossroads Pray: God, thank you for sending Jesus to earth; Help us WORSHIP and PRAISE you today. 3 Day 2 Monday, March 30, 2015 Theme: Jesus is anointed. Ask: What is the best gift anyone has every given you and what is the best thing anyone has ever done for you? Do: Creatively, think of ways that you can serve or gift each other in an effort to convey love. Kids might wash the dishes or do chores. Parents may make the kids a special lunch or buy them a special gift. Spouses could make a special meal, buy a special gift, or knock something off the to do list. Take a picture of someone serving or gifting and post it on social media: #familybiblestudy #holyweek@crossroads. Ask: What is one of the best gifts Jesus was given? Read: Mark 14:1-9 Say: On this day in Holy Week, Mary, the sister of Lazarus and Martha, loved Jesus so much that she poured an entire jar of perfume over Jesus head. It was her creative way to show her love for her Savior. The jar of perfume cost 100 denarii, which is more than 3months of an ordinary persons salary. Say: Mary s gift was a creative, heartfelt act of worship. Ask: What gift can you give Jesus? What ways can you express your love and worship to him? Pray: God, we give you the gift of our hearts today. Help us to commit our lives and ourselves to you every day and in every way. Day 2 Monday, March 30, 2015 Theme: Jesus is anointed. 4 Day 3 Tuesday, March 31, 2015 Theme: Jesus and the Greatest Commandment Do: Hold a spelling bee to see who in the family is the best speller. Start with easy words and move to harder ones. If you can, take a picture of your best speller and post it on social media: #familybiblestudy #holyweek@crossroads. Say: Jesus was quizzed and tested, but his questions were much harder than the spelling words we just attempted to get right. Jesus never got a question wrong, even though he was asked hard questions like this. Ask: How would you sum up God s purpose for your life in one statement? Say: At Crossroads, we declare that purpose in three simple sentences: Love God. Love Others. Serve the World. Read: Matthew 22:34-40 Say: During Holy week the Pharisees and Sadducees asked Jesus many questions in hopes that he would answer wrong. Instead of answering wrong, Jesus taught us our purpose by summing all the commandments of God with 2 simple sentences: love God with all of your being and love others as you love yourself. Say: Jesus also said in Mathew 28:16-20 that we are to share his gospel with the world. Say: So, Jesus told us our purpose is to Love God, Love Others and Serve the World. Its not something we just made up at Crossroads. Pray: God, today we thank you for the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, and we pray what Jesus prayed in Gethsemane Not our will, but yours be done in our lives. 5 Day 4 Wednesday, April 1, 2015 Theme: Judas betrays Jesus. Ask: What is the worst thing someone has every done to you? What is the worst thing you ve ever done to someone else? Ask: Were you betrayed? What does betrayal mean? Say: One of the most dramatic betrayals in all Walt Disney movies is the moment when Scar throws Mufasa into the valley to be trampled by wildebeests and die. Do: Watch the following clip of the Lion King betrayal. Hopefully it will communicate the dismaying sadness that follows betrayal. This may not be suitable for toddlers. 42ek85G4 Read: Mark 14:43-46 Say: Judas, who was one of Jesus 12 disciples, agreed to betray Jesus, for 30 pieces of silver. He brought the soldiers to Jesus, showed them who He was, and watched as they arrested Jesus. He handed Jesus over to die. Ask: How can you stand up for Jesus and show your loyalty to Him today? Do: Take a picture of your family gathered around the word. Post your picture on social media: #loyal to Christ #holyweek@crossroads Pray: God, we love you. 6 Day 5 Thursday, April 2, 2015 Theme: The Last Supper Do: Come to the Maundy Thursday Service at church. It starts at 6:30. Do: Reflect on the service when you get home. Ask: What did you learn or take away? Read: John 13:1-17 Say: The word Maundy comes from the Latin word Mandatum which means command, and has to do with God s command for us to love and serve one another. Jesus showed His disciples how to love one another. Again we see our purpose or mission statement in life (Love God. Love Others. Serve the World.) only this time we see it through Christ s actions. Ask: Why was communion important or not important to you this evening? Say: Christ asked us to remember his sacrifice when we have communion? Paul tells us we are not to take communion if there is unrepented sin in our lives (1 Cor. 11:27-32)? So communion is a time to examine our lives and remember our Savior s sacrifice. Pray: God, help us to cherish your sacrifice and serve others with a heart like yours. Search our heart oh God and show us our sin so that we may repent and become more like you. 7 Day 6 Friday, April 3, 2015 Theme: Jesus suffered and died. Say: Jesus suffered and died for us. He is the only one who could die in our place because he is the only one who is without sin. He suffered for 3 hours because he loved us. So, tonight we are going to sit and quietly reflect on the cross. Do: For 30 minutes turn off all phones and electronics. You may even want to turn off the power in the house and use candles. Instruct everyone to find a private place in the house and think about what Christ did for us. Pray and thank Him. Read and thank him. Read: During the reflective time of silence, encourage everyone to read either Luke 23 or John 19. Day 6 Friday, April 3, 2015 Theme: Jesus suffered and died. 8 Day 7 Saturday, April 4, 2015 Theme: Christ in the Tomb Ask: Are you a very patient person? How do you feel when you have to wait for things?
