2 Brochure > Coaching and Saba Cloud The constant stream of changes so prevalent in today s business environment makes it hard to keep the workforce on track and productive. Also, the performance review, once the keystone of the process that delivered feedback and helped align employee efforts to corporate objectives, is being replaced and deemphasized at many organizations. To bridge the gap, coaching can mean the difference between success and failure, as a well-trained coach will help employees make sense of the chaos, identify options and choose the right one. In this era of personalized development, the coach can take a program or process designed for scale and efficiency and make it relevant and meaningful for each employee. And coaching is an excellent investment: as research has shown, companies that support coaching have 33% higher employee engagement and 42% higher productivity as well as significantly better results from their talent programs hiring, learning and performance management. 1 Whether your company is hiring external coaches or training managers to coach, Saba Cloud can help. Saba Cloud is a complete, fully unified talent management suite and includes functionality to help with the training and support of coaches as well as the coaching process itself. Employee coaching programs vary greatly from one company to another, so while few programs use each and every feature detailed below, many are using those that fit their needs, and that s making their coaches, employees and the coaching process more efficient and effective. Keeping Up: My Team Dashboard The My Team dashboard helps coaches keep up with their team. It indicates prominently who has missed a deadline and gives the coach a number of ways to reach out to the employee instant message, , video chat or scheduling a meeting. Coaches can drill down into each person s plan goals, learning activities, skills and competencies, as well as contributions and connectedness, so they can tailor their coaching so it has the greatest impact. 3 Connecting in Real Time: Video, Web Meetings and Instant Messaging Both regular and ad hoc communication are vital for successful coaching, and Saba Cloud includes a number of ways people can connect. Saba Meeting is a complete web conferencing system with HD video, voice over IP and screen sharing, so coaching can still be face to face, even if you are not in the same office. For quick questions, Saba also has instant messaging built in, and if the discussion grows larger than the original intent, the chat session can be transformed into a video meeting with one click. Connect and coach remotely with Saba Meeting Give feedback and recognition with Impressions Recognition and Feedback: Impressions Coaches and coworkers can publicly recognize a person for helping out in the moment of need, delivering a great presentation or just a job well done. Called Impressions in Saba Cloud, one simply chooses a badge that represents the key characteristic demonstrated (e.g., Proactive, Leader, etc.) and then adds a brief comment, which is then posted to the person s profile. If you d like to provide constructive feedback, there is an Even Better If field, which is private, only seen by the recipient and (optionally) their manager. Impressions are especially helpful in enabling on-the-fly, continuous feedback. 3
4 Brochure > Coaching and Saba Cloud Anytime Skill Level Assessment: Get Feedback Rather than sitting back and waiting for feedback to arrive, employees can use the Get Feedback capability to solicit feedback from their peers and manager. For those wanting to improve in their current job or to prepare for a change in role, knowing their current skill level is extremely helpful. Employees can kick off a feedback cycle with just a few clicks, and collect both quantitative ratings and qualitative feedback, ultimately generating a detailed report around skill levels that can be added to their profile. Managers and coaches can also view and participate in these ratings, helping employees improve their skills. Employees prioritize skills to develop by collecting feedback from peers Tracking Commitments and Conversations: Groups and Workspaces Groups and Workspaces offer a shared working area where coaches and employees can track commitments and collaborate between sessions. Groups enable a continuous exchange of insights between members, and can consist of many members or just an employee and their coach. The activity feed, which shows everything that is going on in the group, allows for easy sharing and discussion 4
5 around documents, videos, blogs and links to just about anything, providing depth and continuity between the live coaching sessions. While Groups enable free communication and sharing between members, Workspaces (or wikis) can also be easily created, with pages that serve as a repository for the latest insights, links and documents making them a great place to keep coaching logs. Keep the conversation going between live sessions with Workspaces and 1 on 1 discussions Options: TIM Recommendations An important part of coaching is helping the employee discover his or her options and then choose the right course of action. To help find more options, Saba Cloud has TIM, The Intelligent Mentor, who provides personal and relevant recommendations that help employees learn and perform better. Based on machine learning algorithms, TIM learns more about each person every day, so his recommendations continuously improve. Since TIM can process all the data in your talent management system, he ll undoubtedly uncover options that are not visible to the employee or coach. 5

And having convenient access to information, options and experts wherever you may be will help you be more productive. Saba s apps for Android and Apple mobile devices provide access to social groups, goals, meetings, recommendations, impressions and the team dashboard - enabling employees and coaches to connect and stay on top of their game while on the go. 6
7 Empower Self-Development: Career Paths Career path capabilities empower employees to answer the two most common questions about career planning: Where can I go, and how do I get there? Employees can start with an end destination in mind and get Saba Cloud to help chart a path, or if they don t know the exact position they re after, TIM can recommend positions that are outside of the traditional career ladder based on the employee s skills and interests. TIM will also prescribe a path forward including learning, goals and skills to be added to the employee s plan, along with connections that might serve as good coaches or mentors. Employees can explore multiple What if? scenarios and when ready, activate those paths to begin working on them with their manager, coach or mentor. Importantly, organizations don t need to manually input any career ladders or required skills TIM can automatically do this work by observing the movements and skills across the organization.
