1 SCSI Pro Quick Installation Guide This installation guide is written for SCSI Pro series. Some features on this installation guide may not be present on the model you bought. Please only refer to the features and instructions that apply to your board. Introducing the SCSI Pro The SCSI Pro controllers are high performance PCI-bus SCSI host controllers. They offer PCI Plug-n-Play and Scatter/Gather features to improve performance for multitasking Operating Systems. 2 System Requirements Pentium or equivalent computer with one available PCI slot CD-ROM drive (for driver installation) DOS/Windows 3.x, Windows 95/98/98 SE/ME/NT4.0/2000/ XP or Linux Package Contents One SCSI Pro controller and cable(s) Driver Installation CD This quick installation guide One 5-year warranty card Hardware Installation General instructions for installing the card are provided below, since the design of computer cases and motherboards vary. Refer to your computer s reference manual for further information, if needed. Caution: Static Electricity Discharge may permanently damage your system. To avoid possible static electricity discharge during the installation, please follow the guidelines below: Discharge any static electricity build up in your body by touching a large grounded metal surface or the computer s case (if plugged in), for a few seconds. During the installation, avoid any contact with internal parts. Handle cards only by their external edges. 1. Turn OFF the power to your computer and any other connected peripheral devices. 2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the computer. 3. Remove your computer s cover. 4. Remove the slot bracket from an available PCI slot. 5. To install the card, carefully align the card's bus connector with the selected PCI slot on the motherboard. Push the board down firmly, but gently, until it is well seated. 6. Replace the slot bracket's holding screw to secure the card. 7. Replace the computer cover and reconnect the power cord. 2

3 SCSI ID When connecting multiple SCSI devices, each device must be assigned with a unique SCSI ID. No two SCSI devices can share the same SCSI ID. SCSI ID settings range from 0 to 7 (0 to 15 for AP-40 SCSI Pro). The SCSI host controller is factory set at SCSI ID 7; therefore, SCSI ID 7 isn't available for SCSI devices. Check each SCSI device you are planning to connect for its factory ID number. If necessary, change its ID to avoid conflict with other devices' ID. The device ID is typically set via jumpers or switches. See device manufacturer's manual for more details. If you have two or more SCSI hard disks installed, the drive with lower SCSI ID will be your boot drive. SCSI ID 0 is best reserved for boot hard disk; SCSI ID 1 is best reserved as the second hard disk. SCSI Termination The SCSI bus must be terminated in order for its connected devices to function properly. Please follow common rules below to terminate SCSI devices. 1. SCSI board is on auto-termination. SCSI termination automatically turns ON or OFF depending on how devices are attached to the controller. This is done automatically and doesn't require manual setting by users. 2. The last device at both end of the SCSI chain must be terminated (set to ON). All SCSI devices in the middle of the chain should not be terminated (set to OFF). 3. If there's no internal SCSI device attached or if the SCSI controller doesn't have an internal connector, simply terminate the last device of the external SCSI chain. 4. If there's no external SCSI device attached, simply terminate the last device of the internal SCSI chain. Please refer to the figures on next page for more reference on SCSI termination. 3
