1 PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE 2015 ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE GOALS ENDOWMENT COMMITTEE Goal Enhance the financial future of our church through current and future pledges of member s wealth. Objective Educate and communicate with current and past members of the congregation, the importance of endowment activities to our church. Procedures Develop methods to educate our members through frequent (at least quarterly) written communication channels, and individual contact by committee members.. FINANCE COMMITTEE 1. Pay 100% of Conference and District Mission Shares. A. Continue to provide regular information to the congregation through the year regarding the financial status of the church. This will be done through quarterly lay messages, the Circuit Rider, bulletin and occasional mailings. B. Provide the congregation with an interpretation and exploration of the church budget by informing the congregation about how mission shares are being used what is the end result of donations.. 2. Plan and carry out the annual Stewardship Campaign. 3. We will be responsible for administering all funds of the church and be responsible for the annual review of the church s accounts by a professional accountant or someone other than the church treasurer. 4. Members would prayerfully consider their financial giving to the church.
2 BOARD OF TRUSTEES The Board of Trustees will continue to maintain and improve all church-owned property, making repairs and improvements as needed. STAFF-PARISH RELATIONS COMMITTEE 1. Maintain a relationship with our pastors and staff that results in a complete feeling of trust, honesty and confidence, always keeping the lines of communication open in both directions. 2. Discuss situations that arise of concern to pastors and/or committee members and take the necessary action immediately, not letting it go unresolved with the hope it will correct itself. 3. Be advocates for the Pastors and Staff. 4. Be the eyes and ears of our Church, informing Pastors of developing trends. 5. Continue to be responsive to the staffing needs of the congregation. 6. Support on-going professional development of staff members and assist them in any way possible to enhance their effectiveness. 7. Create close communication with other committees to address common issues affecting Staff. 8. Continue regular Staff Evaluations to promote open communication and to provide encouragement to the staff member for their work with our congregation. 9. Promote the use of daily devotions and daily prayer among the committee members, as the congregation becomes a more praying congregation.
3 2015 PROGRAM COMMITTEE GOALS AREA ON EDUCATION Mission Statement: To make disciples of Jesus Christ through Christian Education Goals: 1. Deepen and enrich the Christian Education experience for children and adults to assist them to grow in faith. Focus: Increase average Sunday School attendance by 10% Maintain: Make prayer a priority (model prayer, prayer partners for each class) Bible Night for 3 rd & 4 th graders Send out absentee cards on a quarterly basis & encourage teachers to make personal contacts. Provide small group and fellowship opportunities for adults and begin at least one new adult group or study each semester). Organize, promote and add titles to our church library. Promote summer camps & provide scholarships. Plan an appreciation event for those who help with varied educational programs. 2. Hold events for parents and children to help families nurture faith. Focus: Grow our Fall Family Festival to increase attendance especially with those outside our church and include other church groups in the process. Father/Daughter event to nurture positive relationships. Maintain: Target families at significant moments (birth, pre-k, Third grade Bibles, Confirmation, and Graduation). 3. Promote outreach/mission projects. Maintain: Sunday School classes will choose a mission project for their class. Make the Angel Tree Mission Project available to classes and the congregation. 4. Minister to post-graduate young adults. Maintain: Provide a scholarship for college students. Contact our college students & young military throughout the year. Support Outreach Center ministries to college students.
4 EVANGELISM COMMITTEE The goal of the Evangelism Committee is to continue to promote and maintain a Christian atmosphere within the congregation, making disciples for Jesus Christ by continuing to focus on: Radical Hospitality, Spiritual Growth and Faith Sharing In an effort to meet the focus of Radical Hospitality, the committee will: 1) Be the eyes and ears of the congregation by modeling hospitality, i.e. Pew Captains, secret Hosts, and wear name tags. 2) Continue distributing Welcome Packets to first-time guests and follow-up with local guests, providing them with more specific church information and a gift bag. 3) Re-establish a connection with non-active members, by sending Easter and Thanksgiving cards. 4) Encourage fellowship through church potluck dinners and Gathering Space usage. In an effort to meet the focus of Spiritual Growth, the committee will: 1) Make available spiritual growth items, i.e. Bible bookmarks, ACTS prayer card and etc. 2) Assist with Outreach Center as requested and as able. In an effort to meet the focus of Faith Sharing, the committee will: 1) Continue the outreach faith sharing to CCC students and the Columbus Rescue Mission. 2) Work with the Pastors to develop a system for orientating New Members to the church.
5 MISSION COMMITTEE The purpose of the Church in Missions is to involve members in the total mission program of the church. We plan to carry out mission projects and disperse the Faith Promise monies to designated projects. I. We will bring to members of the congregation stories and information about mission projects in local and global settings. A. We will highlight Mission Minutes on a regular basis in the Circuit Rider. B. We will have a Mission Sunday in C. We will continue a covenant relationship with a missionary or mission project, and support it with fundraisers. We will also contribute to other missionary work, if extra funds are available. D. We will work with VBS to encourage an offering for a mission project. E. We will support the Christian Social Witness group in becoming a Peace With Justice congregation. II. We will offer methods, channels, and direction to members of the congregation for participation in the mission program of The United Methodist Church. A. We will sponsor a Mission Market and aluminum can recycling. B. We will encourage riders and contributors to the NUMB (Nebraska United Methodist Bike) Ride for Hunger. C. We will plan and participate in Christmas projects for families in need in our community and for other United Methodist supported projects. D. We will publicize, support and participate in work projects including local projects, Volunteer In Mission (VIM) and NOMADS. E. Promote special offerings (especially Peanuts/Stretch). F. We will plan and participate in a Christmas in July project. G. Periodic support of special needs in our community. H. We will identify and respond to needs arising from disasters, using the giving box I. We will encourage and support the Youth Group to participate in a United Methodist Mission work trip through finances, organization and education. J. We will be a Silver level partner with MMDC ($100.00) annually. K. We will support Change the World days. L. We will keep the emergency food bags replenished. M. We will continue support of a community Back-Pack Food Program. N. We will provide prayer crosses to the pastors to be given to people in crisis situations.
6 WORSHIP COMMITTEE Committee Mission Use the worship experience to bring congregants of all ages closer to God and to one another for the purpose of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Find opportunities to improve the worship experience for people of all ages, interests and situations. Increase the variety of music and other creative means of worship expression. Increase the participation in all musical groups for all services, and increase the number of musical groups that are involved during worship services. Encourage and support the church leadership to find new ways to praise God during worship. Revitalize and change the ways weekly announcements are shared during worship. Renew usher training incorporating child security and provisions for worshipers with handicaps. Seek ways to increase the involvement of congregational members of all ages and abilities in worship. Continue to revitalize the Partners in Faith program. Encourage the Altar Guild to bring a fresh look to the altar enhancing our worship experience. Recognize those who contribute to the worship experience. Provide increased access to worship services for persons with disabilities. Make worship services more welcoming to visitors and members. Encourage members to seek out and to welcome visitors and guests. Build relationships with minorities in our community. Provide ways for members to get to know other members with whom they are unfamiliar. Support concerts and other events at the church to which the public is invited.
7 MINISTRY DEVELOPMENT TEAM Primary goals for 2015 are to: 1. Assist with the initiation of new ministries in and out of the downtown church. 2. Review new ministry proposals and offer recommendations to teams and the Council. 3. Be available to the Council for special project work. 4. Maintain the reporting and recording of Vital Signs data for reporting our ministry effectiveness to Council as outlined in the Discipleship Plan and for reporting weekly to the conference. 5. Assist with the development of the 2016 Discipleship Plan, if so requested by the Council. 6. Be available to consult with and advise/support the expansion of Caring Ministries and other ministry efforts outlined in the 2014 Discipleship Plan. COMMUNICATIONS TEAM Purpose Statement: To assist in the effective communication of the good news within the church body and to those outside. Primary goals for 2015 are to: 1. Perform a major overhaul of the website, simplifying and making it more usable by mobile devices, and keeping it up to date. 2. Organize for better use of social media applications. 3. Install and promote on-line transactions and registrations on the website. 4. Encourage use of the UMC Market online scrip project for the website. 5. Finish the major upgrade and documentation of the computer network setup and backup systems. Continue training staff and volunteers in its use. Primary goals for 2015 are to: HOSPITALITY TEAM 1. Meet as needed to coordinate and improve hospitality activities. 2. Maintain the welcome brochure/catalog. 3. Continue the welcome greeter activity. 4. Maintain and expand the use of the internet-based New Person Info document. 5. Support the pastors in the prospective and new member process.
8 OUTREACH CHRISTIAN CENTER OPERATIONS TEAM Continue coordinating and supporting outreach ministries at the Outreach Center. Report activities and promote opportunities at the Center to the congregation. Maintain the Center s webpage on the church website. Expand the efforts of the Team and encourage ministry development at the Center. Continue development of financial support for the operation of the Center. WAVE SUPPORT TEAM 1. Continue to involve more of the WAVE congregation into the Support Team activities. 2. Broaden the involvement of the people in the actual worship service. 3. Lighten the load of the worship leader. 4. Clarify the functions and procedures for WAVE subteams. 5. Continue the good connection with the downtown church ministries and people. 6. Find ways to communicate to the community the WAVE worship service. 7. Expand the WAVE congregation base, especially with more worshipers from the community that are unchurched. 8. Reflect radical hospitality in our welcoming and in our visitor and member follow-up. 9. Develop mission, fellowship and ministry opportunities and small groups functioning within the WAVE congregation.
9 YOUTH MINISTRY 1. Increase active participation by 5% in each group 2. Include prayer or devotion time at beginning and/or end of each youth gathering. Encourage youth to pray during these times. 3. Each youth group meeting will include a message about Jesus Christ. 4. Provide an opportunity for youth to become involved in music ministry through youth group music on Wednesday evenings. 5. Complete at least 15 service projects per year. 6. Intentionally, connect the youth to our other church families outside of Wednesday nights. Encourage a more relational-focused youth group in accordance with the church at large 7. Students use the Bible in youth group meeting to look up scripture that is being discussed. This will allow the youth to become more aware and knowledgeable about their Bible. NOMINATIONS AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE Primary goals for 2015 are to: 1. Organize, recruit and lead another Christian Leadership class, focusing on servant leadership. 2. Provide orientation and ongoing support to the committee leaders and members. Make periodic contact with committee chairs regarding needs and progress, e.g., with respect to training requirements. 3. Conduct brief orientation for 2015 chairs at the next Council meeting to include: a. Provide contact lists of committee members and reference to team goals. b. Provide descriptions of committee and member functions and responsibilities. c. Encourage past chairs/co-chairs to help with the transition for new chairs/co-chairs. d. Encourage team-based ministry approach to help committees and teams to be more effective within their groups and in their ministries. e. Discuss church s overall mission and ministry goals for 2015, including the 2015 Discipleship Plan, and identify leader needs. f. Consider congregational recognition/celebration of 2014 servants and express appreciation and hopes for 2015 servants. 4. Recruit the leaders and committee/team members for 2016 ministries.
10 UNITED METHODIST WOMEN 1. To implement the Purpose of United Methodist Women. 2. To be in mission to children and youth through financial support, programming and action as in scholarships and birthday cards to all church children between the ages of 3 and To be in mission to our homebound and nursing home members through various projects as tea parties, bingo and Meals on Wheels. 4. To promote United Methodist Women to new members. 5. To be in mission globally by fulfilling our pledge, through attendance at Schools of Christian Mission, Conference and District meetings, sponsoring a Mission and/or Bible Study, Quilting, promoting Equal Exchange products, and supports UMCOR. 6. To present a quilt to the families of all new babies in our congregation, prayer quilts to those in need and comfort bags to the school counselors. 7. To use the Program Book and Prayer Calendar in our circles. 8. To promote the Reading Program through the Circuit Rider and bulletin. 9. To educate our UMW members about our organization and the opportunities within our group. 10. To continue as a 7 Star Unit (giving through our Pledge, World Thank Offering, Gift to Missions, Special Mission Recognition, Call to Prayer, Dedicated Light and Corsage for Missions). Become a platinum Mission Today Unit and a member of the charter club for racial justice. 11. To find ways to creatively tell the United Methodist Women s story to our church family through the Circuit Rider, the church s web page and UMW Sunday. 12. To be a fellowship of women as we minister to one another spiritually and through interaction in our programs and projects. 13. To investigate the creation of an circle.
