2 Objectives iweb is an easy way to create a personal website that can include photos, podcasts, movies, blogs, and more. You ll learn to: Create a website with predesigned templates Add text, graphics and other media Add subpages Use Special Templates Add links Publish

3 Getting started Three steps in developing your website: 1. Planning 2. Creating 3. Publishing Open iweb 1. Click the icon in the Dock or 2. Double-click the icon in your Applications folder (or go to Finder > Go > Applications)

4 1. Planning Part of the planning process is to choose a design. iweb provides themes and templates to design your website. Theme styles for your site. Templates that provide the layout for a specific purpose such as a blog or photo album.

5 2. Creating Choose a theme in the Template chooser. If the chooser is not open: Click Add Page on toolbar (or File > New Page). Choose a theme from options on the left. Choose a template on the right. Let s work with Welcome.

6 A Look at the Interface Sidebar: Along the left, shows websites and web pages. You can rearrange pages by dragging them. Toolbar: Along the bottom, provides editing options. Webpage canvas: Large area where content is created.

7 Interface Navigation menu: Along the top of the canvas is the table of contents for the website. Placeholder text and graphics: Replace these with your own content.

8 Adding text Each template contains text boxes for titles, headings and body text. Double-click a text placeholder and start typing your own text. Click the Fonts button to format your text s color, typeface, size, etc.

9 To Move or Resize a Text Box: Click the text once to show the selection handles. Click inside the box and drag to reposition. Drag a selection handle to resize.

10 Adding graphics The easiest way to add graphics, music and movies is with the Media Browser. 1. Click Show Media in the toolbar 2. Choose the Photos tab to find the photo you want. (or drag a photo from the desktop, iphoto, or a folder on your computer.) 3. Drag your selection into a graphic placeholder on your page. * Movies and other audio can also be dragged into a placeholder.

11 Editing graphics Click the graphic that you want to edit. The Edit Mask slider that appears enables you to resize. Double-click the graphic to reposition within the placeholder. Click Edit Mask to finish editing. To enhance graphics: Click Inspector > Graphic Inspector Options include: Adding a picture frame, shadow, or reflection

12 Adding other media The Media Browser also holds Audio, Movies and Widgets. Click and drag your selection from the appropriate tab onto the page. The widgets tab contains widgets such as Google Maps, a countdown, and RSS feed.

13 Inserting buttons Me: One-click method for visitors to contact you. Add address in publishing settings. Hit Counter: Keeps track of how many times sit is opened. Made on a Mac: Stamp your website with the logo.

14 Adding subpages When you add a subpage, iweb adds a link to the navigation menu across the top of the page and to the sidebar. Pages can be rearranged and deleted in the sidebar. Rename your site by double-clicking the name in the sidebar and typing the new name.

16 Adding links Hyperlinks help navigate to pages inside and outside your website. 1. Highlight your text or graphic 2. Inspector button > Link Inspector tab 3. Select both Enable as a hyperlink and Make hyperlinks active options. 4. Add the web address you want to link in the URL field.

17 3. Publishing When you are ready to go live: 1. Click Site icon in the sidebar for the Site Publishing Settings. * You can publish to Mobile Me, or an FTP or local folder. 2. Enter site name (web address) and contact Click Publish Site button.

18 Practice 1. Click on the red Welcome icon in the sidebar and go to Edit > Delete Page. 2. Choose a new theme and the About Me template. 3. Replace text in a text box with your info. 4. Create a hyperlink to 5. Click an image and enlarge it. 6. Add a subpage by choosing the Blank template. 7. Add a Google Map from the Media Browser.
