1 Table 2 (page 3) shows CSU campuses awarding master s degrees. The two lines indicate the number of doctoral recipients who reported CSUSB as a bachelor s degree awarding institution in 2000 and The difference between the two lines indicates the positive or negative change between 2000 and 2009 in the number of doctoral recipients. CSUSB shows the largest positive change in the number of doctoral recipients. CSUSB AS AN INSTITUTION OF ORIGIN FOR DOCTORAL RECIPIENTS The National Science Foundation (NSF) conducts the Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED) each year of students who filed for a doctoral degree in a U.S. accredited institution. Questions in the survey include the field in which the doctoral degree was earned, the institution from which the degree was earned, and the institutions from which the student received their bachelor s and master s degree. Participation rate has been approximately 93% of all doctoral recipients and only research degrees are included in the survey. Professional degrees such as MD, DDS, OD, DVM, and JD are not included. Further information about the survey can be found at Table 3 (page 4) shows that, for master s colleges and universities in the State of California, 3 doctoral recipients in reported receiving their master s degree from CSUSB, ranking ahead of Naval Postgraduate School, CSU Chico, and CSU San Luis Obispo and ranking behind CSU East Bay, CSU Dominguez Hills, and CSU Fresno. Table 4 (page 5) indicates a positive change for CSUSB between 2000 and 2009 in the number of doctoral recipients who reported CSUSB as a master s degree awarding institution, although the largest, positive change can be seen in CSU Los Angeles. For doctoral recipients who graduated between 2000 and 2009, SED ranked CSUSB as #409 among 1363 bachelor s degree awarding institutions reported by doctoral recipients. SED also ranked CSUSB as #335 among 758 master s degree awarding institutions reported by doctoral recipients. Table 1 (page 2) shows that, for master s colleges and universities in the State of California, 8 doctoral recipients in reported receiving their bachelor s degree from CSUSB ranking ahead of Sonoma State, University of Redlands, and CSU East Bay and ranking behind Loyola Marymount University, Santa Clara University, and Cal Poly Pomona.
2 Graphs below show a growing number of doctoral recipients each year reporting that CSUSB was the degree granting institution for their bachelor s and master s degrees. This suggests preparedness for doctoral studies especially for students graduating with a bachelor s degree from CSUSB.
