Further afield the beautiful New Forest is just an hour away by car. It s a great destination for walking, cycling and enjoying the stunning scenery. The well known seaside town of Weymouth is just under 10 miles away and the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, can be reached in about half an hour.

5 Poundbury Hillfort Queen Mother Square Poundbury Hillfort, a Middle Bronze Age hillfort, lies next to Poundbury. Roughly rectangular in shape, the fort commands views over the River Frome and the Frome Valley. It is likely that the hillfort was situated at the top of Poundbury Hill for strategic reasons. Queen Mother Square, due to be fully complete in 2016, is set to become the heart of Poundbury. It s home to the Little Waitrose and a great selection of independent shops. It also hosts the monthly Poundbury Farmers Market and annual Dorset Food & Arts Festival Borough Gardens Food and Drink Just a few minutes walk from Dorchester town centre lies Borough Gardens, open all year round. The gardens contain tennis courts, large children s play area, bandstand, clock tower and fabulous fl ower beds. Foodies are spoilt for choice in Poundbury with an artisan bakery, award winning deli and great range of independent shops, cafés, restaurants and traditional pub with its own restaurant. Poundbury Farmers Market is held on the fi rst Saturday of every month.
