Your collegee is allocated to Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research institute Nodal Centre. The first Contact Session of the 2 nd Advance course of our Nodal Centre is scheduled between 4 th and 8 th of March It is to be noted that the Medical council of India has prescribed the minimum qualifications required for the teachers to be considered for being resource persons/faculty for the Basic course as any one of the following: 1. Degree in medical education 2. Diploma in medical education 3. FAIMER ( Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research) Fellowship 4. Advanced course in medical education (project based longitudinal course) Who will be eligible to take the Advance course? The eligibility criteria for the course is as follows: Successful completion of the MCI Basic course Workshop in MET (certificate to be attached) At least three years of teaching experience as a faculty (Asst. Professor upwards)* Recommendation from the Dean/ Principal Institution specific eligibility of participants: 30% of faculty who have undergone Basic Course Workshop in MET and should spread across specialties and Cadres. * First preference will be given to MEU Coordinator/Members with above eligibility criteria-kindly attach evidence for this thru your Dean What is the structure of the course? The course is structured for a period of one Year with 2 contact sessions of 5 days (1 st contact session for 5 days and 2 nd contact session of 3 days) at the Nodal Centre in March/April and September/October. The intersession period will include online discussions and project submission. The certificates will be awarded only after the completion of requirements as specified and due assessment of every participant. What is the course fee? The course fee for the entire course will be Rs 10000/. Travel and stay will be arranged at our venue on payment basis. Mode of Payment: 1. Payment by Demand Draft payable at Chennai. 2. 3 CURRICULUM DOCUMENT FOR ADVANCED COURSE IN MEDICAL EDUCATION 1. BACKGROUND: There is a recognized need for advancing the field of medical education as well as to bring in current trends and practices into it. However, there are limited opportunities for faculty in India to advance in the field of medical education. The MCI basic workshop in Medical Education Technologies require faculty to attain a certain level of expertise in medical education for quality assurance of the basic courses. There is also a need to provide a platform for medical educators to network. Keeping all this in cognizance, Medical Council of India proposes the following curricular reform: Advanced course in medical education for medical faculty to be conducted by the MCI recognized Nodal centres. 2. GOAL/PURPOSE: To develop educational practitioners who can lead educational changes in their institution to make medical education responsive to the health needs of the society. 3. EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES a. Broad Objectives: To develop educational leaders Build capacity of medical faculty to become effective facilitators of learning Develop ability to take better pedagogic decisions Be able to promote self learning & reflective learning in classroom situations Promote educational networking Developing a community of learners Able to serve as effective resource persons for the basic course at their own institution Empower faculty to implement and sustain educational innovations in their institutions Augmenting use of ICT devices in teaching learning processes b. 7 Development plan and conduct educational workshops including the basic workshops conducting educational workshops Faculty evaluation workshop in their groups will demonstrate facilitation skills in sessions for basic course will be observers for at least 2 workshops and provide standardized feedback on planning and execution c. Teaching- Learning Methods Interactive workshop based supported with online discussions and project guidance d. Assessment: Self assessment Assessment on group presentations: a. Peer assessment b. Faculty assessment Assessment of project work Assessment of online discussions 4. CURRICULUM ORGANIZATION 90% Standard Format 10% as per local needs 5. IMPLEMENTATION a. This curriculum will be delivered by the MCI Nodal centres twice a year. A prior two day training to cover the logistics and online facilitation for 5 Resource faculty from each Nodal Centre will be organised at MCI. b. Duration of the Course: One year Two onsite sessions of 5 days and 3 days each Overlap of one day on Day 3 between two batches Parallel session for Batch A and Batch B from Day 4 onwards Session 1: Five days Session 2: Three days Batch A 5 days onsite Batch A 6 months online for discussion on 4 educational themes. Also have some content delivered electronically. Batch A 3 days onsite Present their project Encourage networking and mentoring partnerships Batch B 5 days onsite Batch A and B 6 months online. Batch A will also act as Observers for at least 2 workshops and provide standardized feedback on planning and execution Project work c. Eligibility criteria for participants: Successful completion of the MCI Basic course At least three years of teaching experience Recommendation from the Dean/ Principal First preference will be given to MEU Coordinator/Members with above eligibility criteria-kindly attach evidence for this thru your Dean d. In case the number of participants are more selection criteria needs to be developed. Few guidelines for selection criteria: Member of MEU Educational publications Faculty in basic workshop and other educational workshops Awards in educational related activities ii. Participant registration fees: Rs 10,000/ participant/course e. Criteria for course completion: Overlap 5

8 Hundred percent attendance in onsite session 1 and session 2 Active participation in all online discussions Completion of educational project Poster presentation of educational project at the end of 6 months Satisfactory performance in the assessment criteria Course completion certificate will be issued jointly by MCI and the Nodal centre at the end of one year, in the same pattern of the Basic Course Workshop. The conferment of Certificate will be done ceremonially. 6. Plan for Evaluation of the advanced course Immediate: To evaluate participant satisfaction and learning Daily session feedback Retro pre evaluation Assessment criteria Expected outcome: Medical faculty will apply educational principles in bringing about educational reforms. Plan for evaluation has to be made and implemented by an evaluation core team for intermediate and long term outcomes to evaluate whether transfer of learning has occurred and if it brings beneficial effects to the society and addresses the needs of the country.
