1 GPS 2500 RTK Setup IMPORTANT: The following information is an all inclusive guide to setting the GPS 2500 up to run RTK with an NTRIP modem. Read through the entire document and understand all the necessary steps before proceeding and be sure to follow them step by step. Failure to do so may result in an inoperable receiver. Menu Firmware: Menu firmware needs to be installed in GPS 2500 to allow the receiver to properly communicate with the RTK application. Follow the procedure below: 1. Download and unzip Autoloader_A32x_vx.x.xx.exe to your PC. 2. Power up the GPS 2500 and connect it to your PC. 3. Open the AutoLoader program and select the Com Port that the GPS 2500 is connected to as shown in Figure Press the load button and the update process will begin as shown in Figure The process will take several minutes. DO NOT disconnect power during the update 6. You will receive a Load Complete message when the update is finished. Press OK. 7. To make sure the update was successful, check the top LED light on the GPS It should be solid red. If it is blinking, the update was not successful and should be attempted again. 8. Press Exit to close the program. 1

2 RTK Firmware: RTK firmware needs to be installed in the receiver to allow use of the RTK functionality. There are two application slots into which different version of firmware can be loaded. Application Slot 1 will remain SBAS/OmniSTAR. RTK will replace e Dif in Application Slot 2. You will be installing new firmware for both SBAS/OmniSTAR and RTK in the following steps. Be sure to follow them closely. 1. Go to and download the RightARM.exe program from the GPS downloads section as well as the RTK firmware package. 2. Place the following files in a easy to find location on your PC: RightARM.exe *.bin (firmware versions) 3. Connect the GPS receiver to a serial port on your PC. Do not power the GPS receiver at this time. 4. Double click and run: RightARM.exe 5. Select Connect from the Receiver drop down menu. 6. Select the serial port the GPS receiver has been connected to. (Com 1, Com 2 ) The baud rate required is Once completed, press OK. 7. From the Receiver drop down menu, select Program. A new window will appear. 8. Select System Services and then press Select File 9. A new window will appear, find and select omapboot_vxx.bin click Open. a. NOTE: This file is required to be loaded before the RTK firmware. 10. Verify that Activate Loader is checked and apply power to the receiver. 11. You will see the Active Loader box uncheck itself and the status message will read: Activate Loader Received Receiver is in Loader Mode 12. Press the Erase and Program button. The update process will be displayed in the Status box. 13. Once the firmware upload is complete, select Unload File 14. Select Application 1 in the Program Type box. 15. Press the button labeled Select File A new window will appear, find and select Eclipse2_SBAS_15Qe.bin Click Open. 16. Press the Erase and Program button to reprogram the GPS receiver. The update process will be displayed in the Status box and will take approx. 2 minutes to complete. 17. Once the firmware upload is complete, select Unload File 18. Select Application 2 in the Program Type box. 19. Press the button labeled Select File A new window will appear, find and select Eclipse2_RTK_12Qe.bin Click Open. 20. Press the Erase and Program button to reprogram the GPS receiver. The update process will be displayed in the Status box and will take approximately two minutes to complete. 21. Once the update is completed, disconnect power from the GPS receiver and remove it from your computer. A power cycle is required to allow the receiver to communicate after a firmware update. 2

3 Note: Verify the default NMEA strings are turned on (GGA, VTG) after the upgrade. If they are not, the receiver will not communicate with the display. Turn the strings on using PocketMax PC or contact tech support for assistance. RTK Unlock Code: You can enter an unlock code within the display GPS setup: Alternatively, you may enter the RTK unlock code from a PC: 1. Go to and download the Pocket Max PC program. (alternatively, most any Terminal Program will also work) 2. Connect the GPS receiver to a serial port on your computer and power it. 3. Double click and run: Pocket Max PC 4. Select the serial port the GPS receiver has been connected to. (Com 1, Com 2 ) The baud rate required is not important as long as Auto Baud is checked. Once completed, press Search 5. When the program finds your connected receiver, click [OK] at the bottom of the screen 6. Click on the TMNL link at the bottom of the program as shown in Figure 1 7. Enter the $JK command, followed by the unlock code as show in Figure 2 and click the SEND button. 3

8. You will receive a Subscription Accepted message if the code is valid and entered correctly, as shown in Figure 3 9. Click on the Red X at the upper right hand corner of the program to exit.

Make sure to select Exit and Save. Setting the Correction Age: 1. This is an optional step and may be necessary for your use. 2. Open and connect the receiver to Pocket Max PC. 3. Select the TMNL button at the bottom of the screen. 4. Enter the following command to set the Correction Age: $JAGE,40 (example is a 40 second correction age; this number can be adjusted to fit your preference. Less than 40 seconds is not recommended) 5. You will receive a $> message as a confirmation. 6. Click on the Red X at the upper right hand corner of the program. Make sure to select Exit and Save. Display Setup/Diagnostics: Starting in version 3.5 display firmware, the display supports RTK setup and diagnostics for the GPS Setup: A selection is available for RTK differential. 4

5 GPS Information: You can verify the receiver is set to the right Application Slot for RTK by viewing the diagnostics information under the Receiver Tab. The firmware version shown below should match the version you installed in the previous steps. 5

Cabling: Port A will connect to the Display Cabling to power and communicate with the GPS 2500 From the Intuicom Bridge, connect the P2 Data connection to an Ag Leader Null Modem cable (p/n:

The Intuicom Bridge will need to be powered with the supplied cabling. Supported NTRIP Streams are: CMR+ RTCM 3.1 IMPORTANT: Power the Intuicom RTK Bridge before the GPS Once the TX light is blinking on the Intuicom, power the GPS If the GPS 2500 is powered first, it may not recognize the data from the Intuicom Bridge. 6
