2 Why Spruce Grove With over 26,000 residents and a population increase of 20% over the last four years, the City of Spruce Grove is one of Alberta's fastest growing cities. Strategically located on the TransCanada Yellowhead Highway, just 11 kms west of Edmonton, Spruce Grove has a prominent position as the western gateway to the Edmonton Region. It is the first major city for travelers approaching Edmonton from the west and is well connected to many major transportation routes. Our skilled, local labour force offers employees the opportunity to live close to where they work with commute times of less than 10 minutes - a big advantage for employers to attract and retain workers in a tight labour market. Immediate access to fully integrated emergency and protective services provided at an urban standard, including fire, ambulance, medical and police services - each with an enviable response time. We are a full-service urban community with amenities and services within minutes of home. The City has some of the highest service standards in the province, while taking a leadership role in promoting environmental sustainability. Residents of Spruce Grove are served by a Public, Catholic & Private School Boards with a total of twelve schools providing Kindergarten to grade twelve education services. Parent satisfaction with the quality of education in Spruce Grove is high. Spruce Grove offers a great trail system and features 744 acres of green space not including the new 60 acre Jubilee Park. Queen Street Place is an 80,000 sq. ft. state of the art medical facility which opened in It offers a full range of medical, diagnostic and laboratory services under one roof. It is also home to Family & Community Support Services. The TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre is a model of regional cooperation and represents a partnership involving Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Parkland County.
