To enable this program to be successfully completed in the shorter time frame, the attached questionnaire must be completed prior to attending the class. Each participant will be ed: First Aid Manual First Aid Multi Choice Questionnaire of which questions run in conjunction with the workbook. It should take approx. 1 hour to complete the homework. Homework should be completed prior to the day of training. On the day of attendance, each participant will be required to hand in their completed homework, or evidence that their homework was completed, to the trainer. During the course the practical component will be conducted i.e.: D R S A B C D Lateral Recovery Position Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) Defibrillation Bandaging techniques: Bleeding, Snake bite bandage, lower & upper arm sling. EpiPen Administration for Anaphylaxis Giving Ventolin for an Asthma Emergency The enclosed Authenticity Declaration must be read and signed by the participant and handed in with the homework. 2 LEGISTLATION Q1. The main objective of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Work Health Safety Act is to? Signs of Mild to Moderate Allergic Reaction may include: Hives, Welts, Swollen lips/eyes, Tingling in the Mouth. Q40. A child, who was stung by a bee on their foot, 20 minutes ago, is now having trouble breathing. The child is starting to lose consciousness. You suspect the child is going into Anaphylaxis. The Child does not have an EpiPen. You should immediately: [ ] Grab another child s EpiPen and inject them with it and then call an ambulance [ ] Call the parents immediately [ ] Call an Ambulance immediately Q41. The needle end of an Adrenalin auto-injector should be injected into the casualty s: [ ] Bottom [ ] Arm [ ] Outer thigh area ASTHMA Q42. Your colleague is known to have mild to moderate Asthma and carries Ventolin. You notice that he is coughing, wheezing and is very agitated. You go to talk to him and he can hardly talk back to you. You ask him if he is having an Asthma Attack and he nods his head. You find his Ventolin & a spacer in his top draw. You should immediately: [ ] Give him a brown paper bag to breathe in and out of the bag [ ] Tell him to calm down and stop panicking and it will go away [ ] Give him his spacer and Ventolin. Assist him to spray 1 puff of Ventolin and ask him to breathe in and out of the spacer 4 times. Repeat this a further 3 times. If no improvement after 4 minutes, repeat the 4 puffs and wait a further 4 minutes. If still no improvement, repeat it again and call an ambulance. 6

You also observed that he was sweating and was short of breath. He was rubbing his chest and left arm. What would you do? [ ] Call an ambulance immediately [ ] Make him comfortable and wait an hour to see if he improves. [ ] Make him a cup of coffee Q46. If your manager suddenly because unconscious, you would: [ ] Follow the priorities of First Aid: DRSABCD [ ] Look through his desk draws to find any medication he may have DROWNING Q47. Why should you place an unconscious drowned casualty on their side, as soon as you remove them from the water? [ ] It is more comfortable for the casualty [ ] Allows any fluids to drain out Q48. If a drowned casualty, suddenly regains consciousness after giving 2 rescue breaths: [ ] You can let them go home [ ] You must still call an ambulance and get them checked out in hospital BLEEDING Q49. The best way to control bleeding is to: [ ] Cover the injury [ ] Wash the wound continuously to remove all the blood. [ ] Apply a Pressure Pad directly to the wound and rest the casualty. Seek Medical Aid. SHOCK Q50. Profuse and continuous bleeding can lead to: [ ] Shock [ ] Diabetes [ ] Hyperthermia Q51. Shock can be caused by an injury or illness. 7
