The 101 Awards honor the top players and coaches in the National Football League, and it happens right here in Kansas City. On Sunday, February 26, 2017, we hope you will be among our distinguished guests at the Westin Crown Center as we pay tribute to the top playmakers, coaches and football legends who continue to make positive contributions to the sport. Since its founding by Lamar Hunt in 1969, the 101 Awards have grown in prestige nationally, and with the addition of The University of Kansas Hospital as the event beneficiary, will make a significant impact on the health and wellness of local student-athletes. The experts from the Sports Medicine & Performance Center at The University of Kansas Hospital keep young athletes at the top of their game. Working with schools and leagues, physicians and care providers to develop comprehensive programs that include sports physicals, baseline concussion testing and the full-time availability of a certified athletic trainer. The group also offers coverage at practices, home contests and road games, with a certified athletic trainer to handle sports medicinerelated duties like conditioning, rehabilitation and nutrition assistance. These athletic trainers also staff summer camps and work closely with school nurses on medical issues that arise during the school day. As a not-for-profit organization, The University of Kansas Hospital receives no local or state funding, relying instead on generous philanthropy and excellent fiscal management.
