1 AUDITION PACKET The Mad Tea Party By Brian D. Taylor Directed by Joel Soukkala INFORMATION: theater THIS PRODUCTION WILL BE ENTERED INTO THE MINNESOTA ASSOC. OF COMUNITY THEATRES FESTIVAL. PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED AS THERE ARE EXTRA TIME COMMITMENTS AND FINANCIAL COMMITMENTS FOR EACH ACTOR. AUDITIONS: Sunday, November 13 at 6:00 pm (with possible call backs) **Please note casting may take 1-2 weeks. Those not cast - may or may not receive an individual phone call. Feel free to contact the theater for cast list or further questions. WHAT DO I NEED FOR AUDITIONS?: Auditions will consist of a cold read from the script. Sample pages are attached, and full scripts can be loaned from the theater. Bring your completed audition form and a calendar reflecting any conflicts with you. ** Please be prepared to have 3 distinct characters to portray (including voice and body) REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE INFORMATION: Rehearsals will begin January 2, 2017 (There will be a few nights before the end of the year where we will read the script, be measured for costumes and handle some contest formalities.) *Additional rehearsals will be added as necessary to prepare for future contests if we are fortunate enough to advance. Local Performances will be held: Feb & MACT Festival in Marshall, MN: March 1-5 Encore Performances: March *Region V Festival in Brainerd, MN: April *Encore Performances: June 1-4 *AACT Festival in Rochester, MN: June 28-July 1 *Encore Performances: July 7-9 ABOUT THE SHOW: Lewis Carroll s Wonderland characters are so... well, wonderful that favorite playwright Brian D. Taylor has brought them together in an original story with the same wit and whimsy as the classic tales. Mad Hatter, Dormouse, and March Hare meet for a tea party to honor Time, who has forgiven the Hatter and set time right once again. When the Jabberwock comes and wreaks havoc, the tea party guests including the Caterpillar, the Duchess, the Frog Footman, and Tweedledee and Tweedledum decide that something must be done. Time suggests they travel back through time to the moment when the Jabberwock arrives so that they might catch him. They travel back several times, but White Rabbit s watch is fast, Hatter s is slow, and they just can t catch the Jabberwock. Finally, Hare realizes they must fix the nick in Time... Time s cloak, that is, to save them from the Jabberwock! After all, a stitch in Time saves nine! For additional information and a sample read of the script:

2 CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: FLEXIBLE CAST OF 12 White Rabbit - Chronically late rabbit; Duchess s servant Mad Hatter - Crazy hat maker; always changing hats March Hare - Crazy, nervous hare Dormouse - tired mouse Time - Time personified; the one who controls the clocks, that is; very proper, but sort of depressed Caterpillar - Snooty and endlessly curious, with an air of superiority Duchess / Queen of Hearts - Rival of the Queen of Hearts who s just as vile and demanding; plays Queen at the end Frog Footman / Playing Card - The Duchess s footman; also plays a Playing Card guard at the end Cheshire Cat - The Duchess s cat with the endless grin who disappears and reappears at will Dee - Daft twin who constantly fights with his sibling; wears green Dum - The other twin Audition Form - The Mad Tea Party Please bring this completed form with you to the audition (acting resume and headshots are optional). Signature Contest Agreement: I understand the extra responsibities (time and financial) of this show being a contest piece. I understand that the theater will pay for my registation into each contest with the understanding that I am representing the County Seat Theater and will attend and support other performances as well as attend some of the educational opportunities.
