VOID IN WHOLE OR IN PART WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW. ENTRY IN THE CONTEST CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE OF THE CONTEST RULES (THE CONTEST RULES ). 1. ELIGIBILITY. To be eligible for this Contest, an individual must: a. be a legal resident of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. b. be a current EPL card holder 2. SPONSORS The Contest sponsor is Edmonton Public Library, hereinafter referred to as the Sponsor. 3. HOW TO ENTER: Entrants may, during the Contest Period (as defined below), enter the Contest as outlined below. Entries will not be accepted by any other means than as set out below: (a) Entries are to be submitted through the 3SkillsYEG contest form on epl.ca in order to be considered eligible to win a Prize. The 3SkillsYEG Contest Form shows in detail information which must be included in, and how to submit, a valid entry. Valid entries include: a. A picture of the entrant learning or showcasing a skill; or, b. A short video of the entrant learning or showcasing a skill; or, c. A written Skill Summary (between words which describes: i) a learned skill; ii) how the entrant learned the skill; and, iii) why the entrant learned this particular skill. (b) Each submission will be awarded one (1) bonus entry if the Skill Summary, photo or video has been shared on Twitter or Facebook. Entrants must submit a link to where they have shared their Social media posts in the appropriate location within the Contest Form. Social Spread the words.
2 Page 2 media posts must include the hashtag #3SkillsYEG to be considered eligible for the one (1) bonus entry. (c) Each entrant will be eligible for a maximum of six (6) entries, which consist of: 3 entries showcasing different skills and three (3) bonus entries for sharing each of these on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #3SkillsYEG. In the case of multiple or duplicate entries submitted by the same person showcasing the same skill, only the first eligible entry will be considered. Multiple or duplicate entries for the same skill will be removed from eligibility. You must read and agree to the contest rules and regulations beforehand, in order for your entry to be valid. 4. CONTEST PERIOD: The Contest begins at 9:30AM (MT) on Thursday, January 21 st 2016 and closes at 11:59PM (MT) on Saturday, April 30 th, 2016 (the Contest Period ), after which time the Contest will be closed and no further entries shall be accepted. The winner will be notified on May 6 th, PRIZES AND PRIZE CATEGORIES: There are three separate prizes, consisting of the following: Level 1 Prize - An ipad Air 2,Wi-Fi, 64 GB Level 2 Prize - $200 voucher for a Metro Continuing Education course of your choice; and Level 3 Prize - $ Gift Card for the Telus World of Science); Each valid submission is eligible for any of the prizes. One draw for each of the three prizes will occur when the contest closes. Winners will be eligible to win more than one prize. 6. ODDS OF WINNING: Your odds of winning depend on the number of valid entries received during the Contest Period. 7. VALID ENTRIES (a) All entries shall become the sole property of the Sponsor and will not be returned for any reason. All entries must be received no later than the end of the Contest Period.
3 Page 3 (b) Entries will be declared invalid if they are submitted after the Contest has closed, are illegible, incomplete, damaged, irregular, mutilated, forged, garbled or mechanically or electronically reproduced. 8. ELIGIBLE ENTRANTS Edmonton Public Library employees are ineligible to participate in this Contest. The Sponsor shall have the right at any time to require proof of identity and/or eligibility to participate in the Contest. Failure to provide such proof may result in disqualification. All personal and other information requested by and supplied to the Sponsor for the purpose of this Contest must be truthful, complete, accurate and in no way misleading. Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant, should any entrant at any stage supply untruthful, incomplete, inaccurate or misleading personal details and/or information. 9. GENERAL RESTRICTIONS CONCERNING PRIZES 10. WINNER SELECTION: (a) Only (1) potential winner will be drawn from each of the three different contest levels on Friday, May 6 th, 2016, from all eligible entries received by the Sponsor in accordance with these Contest Rules. The draw will take place at Stanley A. Milner Library and be randomly selected between all eligible entries using an electronic draw process. (b) The Prize winner shall be required to claim the Prize by no later than 12:01 p.m. (MT), Tuesday, May 10 th, Before being declared a winner of the Prize, the potential winner shall be required to: (i) comply with these Contest Rules; and (ii) sign and return the Prize Declaration and Release (as hereinafter defined). (c) If the selected potential Prize winner does not respond in accordance with these Contest Rules, they will be disqualified and will not receive the Prize and another potential Prize winner may be selected. Sponsor is not responsible for the failure for any reason whatsoever of a selected potential Prize winner to receive notification or for the Sponsor to receive a selected potential Prize winner s response. 11. RELEASE (a) Participation in the Contest constitutes each entrant s representation and warranty that he/she/they have read and understood and thereby provide their full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Contest Rules. By participating in the Contest, each entrant: (a) grants to the Sponsor the right to use their name, mailing address, telephone number, and address ( Personal Information ) for the purpose of administering the
4 Page 4 Contest, including but not limited to contacting and announcing the Prize winner; (b) grant to the Sponsor the unrestricted right, in the Sponsor s discretion, to produce, reproduce, publish, broadcast, communicate by telecommunication, exhibit, distribute, adapt and otherwise use or re-use the Prize winner s, photograph, likeness, voice and biography, in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, in connection with the Contest and the promotion and exploitation thereof, without further compensation unless prohibited by law; and (c) acknowledges that the Sponsor may disclose their Personal Information to third-party agents and service providers of the Sponsor s in connection with any of the activities listed in (a) above. The Sponsor will use an entrant s Personal Information only for identified purposes, and will protect all entrants Personal Information in a manner that is consistent with applicable privacy laws and those of the Sponsor. (b) The Prize winner will further be required to execute a prize declaration and release form ( Prize Declaration and Release ) that confirms the Prize winner s: (i) eligibility to enter the Contest and compliance with these Contest Rules; (ii) acceptance of the Prize as offered; (iii) release of the Sponsor from any and all liability for any loss, harm, damages, cost or expense arising out of participation in this Contest, participation in any Contest-related activity or the acceptance, use, or misuse of the Prize, including without limitation costs, injuries, losses related to personal injuries, death, damage to, loss or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation, or portrayal in a false light, or from any and all claims of third parties arising there from; and (iv) grant to the Sponsor the unrestricted right, in the Sponsor s collective or individual discretion, use of the Prize winner s Personal Information, in connection with the Contest and the promotion and exploitation thereof. 12. INDEMNIFICATION BY ENTRANT By entering the Contest, each entrant releases and holds the Sponsor harmless from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind to the entrant, the Sponsor, or any other person, including personal injury, death, or property damage, resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of a Prize, participation in this Contest, any breach of these Contest Rules, or other Prize-related activity. Each entrant agrees to fully indemnify the Sponsor from any and all claims by third parties relating to the Contest, without limitation. 13. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY The Sponsor assumes no responsibility or liability for lost, late, misdirected or incomplete entries. Sponsor is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries. Each entrant assumes liability for injuries caused or claimed to be caused by participating in the Contest, or by the acceptance, possession, use of, misuse or failure to receive a Prize. The Sponsor assumes no responsibility or liability in the event that the Contest cannot be conducted as planned for any reason, including those reasons beyond the control of the Sponsor, such as tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or corruption of the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest.
5 Page CONDUCT By entering this Contest, each entrant agrees to be bound by these Contest Rules. Each entrant further agrees to be bound by the decision of the Sponsor, which shall be final and binding in all respects. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant found to be: (a) violating the Contest Rules; (b) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest and/or (c) acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE CONTEST OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS. SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CRIMINAL PROSECUTION 15. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY All intellectual property, including but not limited to trade-marks, trade names, logos, designs, promotional materials, drawings, illustrations, slogans and representations are respectively owned by the Sponsor and/or its affiliates or under license for the Sponsor s use for the Contest. All rights are reserved. Unauthorized copying or use of any copyrighted material or intellectual property without the express written consent of the Sponsor is strictly prohibited. 16. TERMINATION Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate the Contest, in whole or in part, or modify, amend or suspend the Contest or the Contest Rules in any way, at any time, for any reason without prior notice. 17. LAW These are official Contest Rules. This Contest is subject to applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations. These Contest Rules are subject to change without notice in order to comply with any applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws or the policy of any other entity having jurisdiction over the Sponsor. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of the Contest Rules or the rights and obligations as between the entrant and the Sponsor in connection with the Contest shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Alberta including procedural provisions without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions that would cause the application of any other jurisdiction s laws. WINNER LIST The name of the Prize winner will be posted on the web page found at and following the Contest links, and on EPL s Facebook and twitter pages or can be obtained by contacting EPL at (780) The winner will be asked to have their photo taken for promotional purposes.
6 Page LANGUAGE DISCREPANCY In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these Contest Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest-related materials, including but not limited to the Contest entry form, or point of sale, television, print or online advertising, the terms and conditions of these Contest Rules shall prevail, govern and control.
