1 Door hardware suitable for panic door devices in accordance with DIN EN 1125 FSB crossbar fittings provide a means of opening doors through a pushing motion that either acts on the lock or latch instead of the usual turn of a key or handle. The force exerted is transmitted to the lock follower by a bevel gear pair acting directly through the spindle via a horizontal bar extending across at least 60 % of the width of the door. The door can be opened by pressing any part of the crossbar. The furniture to be fitted to emergency exits and anti-panic doors has been enshrined in European standards binding on all EU States. The requirements for emergency exit devices are set out and laid down in DIN EN 179 and those for panic exit devices in DIN EN The hardware package for panic doors comprises a fastening element (lock), a lock receiver (striking plate) and a horizontal bar that are to be tested and certified as a unit in line with the applicable statutory provisions. It is not admissible to randomly combine components, notably such as are made by different companies, even if each of the individual components concerned have been duly approved. Building authority approval would be forfeited as regards both the panic door device and the fastening element in such an instance. This would also have consequences for planners and fabricators in terms of liability. FSB is accordingly compelled to reject any related claims that may arise from such a situation. 8 Extract from the Technical Requirements under DIN EN 1125 for hardware A panic door device is required to facilitate opening of the door by hand from the inside within 1 second. Door not under load The force needing to be exerted must not exceed 80 N.
