1 ROCHER CHOCOLATES AND ROSES IN A HAT - 1 Materials used: a straw hat (I bought this one at Joann craft store for about $ 1.50), gold colored foil or gold colored wrapping paper, narrow pink ribbon, heartshaped acrylic stones, Rocher chocolates, bowl, Styrofoam ball, pink roses, pink furry yarn, Lindt white chocolate truffles, polka dot cellophane wrap, gold and pink curling ribbon, floral tape, stem wire (16 or 18 ga) or bamboo skewers, pearl strands, glue, glue dots, and tools (scissors, wire cutters). Step 1. Take a straw hat of any diameter you like, it all depends upon how big you want your arrangement to be, (I used a 6 hat in this case, where 6 is the diameter of the hat s crown) and gold foil or gold wrapping paper. Note: instead of a hat, you can use a bowl that has the same shape as a hat. You can wrap the bowl in gold foil or spay it with gold paint. Step 2. If possible, find gold foil (it is better for this particular project than wrapping paper because it is more flexible) or spray gold paint. If you have gold foil that is very easy to shape and fold, just wrap the hat in it, starting with the outside and folding over the brim and then wrapping the inside. Note: you may choose not to wrap the hat from outside just glue a ring from gold wrapping paper or foil to the bottom of the brim.

2 Step 3. The next step is decorating the hat s brim. a) Prepare pink narrow ribbon, peel and stick heart-shaped acrylic stones, Rocher chocolates, glue dots, glue, and scissors. b) Make small bows out of pink ribbon and glue heart-shaped acrylic stones in the middle of the bows.

3 c) Alternately, attach the previously mentioned bows and Rocher chocolates to the hat s brim using glue (white tacky glue or hot glue). Step 4. It s time to decorate the center of the hat. a) Prepare a bowl that fits into the hat s crown; foam ball or half ball that fits firmly into the bowl, hot glue.

4 b) Place a bowl inside the hat s crown securing it with hot glue. The bowl helps to stabilize the whole arrangement. Place half a foam ball into the bowl; you may secure it with hot glue or floral adhesive clay. Note: You can do the arrangement without a bowl; just secure the foam inside the hat s crown with hot glue. I prefer to use a bowl if the hat is big because the bowl helps to stabilize the whole arrangement. Step 5. Cover the foam with pink furry yarn, securing it with floral pins.

5 Step 6. a) Prepare one silk pink open rose and green leaves. If the leaves stems are too short, elongate them with a piece of stem wire and floral tape.

6 b) Insert the rose in the middle of the bowl and the green leaves around it. Step 7. Make 3-4 chocolate flowers to put at the back of the bowl. a) Prepare Lindt white chocolate truffles, stem wire (16 or 18 ga) or bamboo skewers, polka dot cellophane squares, gold curling ribbon, floral tape, scissors, and wire cutters.

7 b) Wire and tape Lindt white chocolate truffles. c) Wrap Lindt flowers in polka dot cellophane tying it with a piece of gold curling ribbon. c-1) Take a square piece of cellophane (I used 7.5 x 7.5 squares) and roll it into a cylinder; fix with a little piece of scotch tape. c-2) Take a cylinder of cellophane wrap and put a chocolate flower one third of the way up into it.

8 c-3) Tie a golden ribbon at the base of the chocolate flower. To prevent the cellophane from sliding down on the stick, you can use a glue dot.

9 d) Insert these Lindt chocolate flowers at the back of the bowl. Step 8. a) Prepare two small pink roses, polka dot cellophane, pink or golden/gold curling ribbon, scissors, and wire cutters.

10 b) Cut the rose stems to the desired length; wrap them in polka dot cellophane in the same way as we wrapped chocolate flowers in Step 7. c) Insert the roses to the sides of the center big rose.

11 Step 9. For a delicate accent, insert some pearl strands. Note: Wire and tape the pearl strands. Place the wire alongside the white part of the pearl strand, and then stem tape in place. Well done! You deserve a break; may be a cup of tea with your favorite chocolate. I want to remind you to use this particular candy arrangement as a template. You can create many other interesting arrangements in a hat. Use a hat of any size, foil of any color; you can wrap the hat not only in foil but also in tulle or organza. Try different combinations. Have fun! Instead of wrapping a hat in gold foil or wrapping paper, you can cover a hat with gold glitter using glue, as I did in the following arrangement.

12 ROCHER CHOCOLATES AND ROSES IN A HAT - 2 Materials used: a straw hat (I bought it at a Joann craft store), red heart-shaped acrylic stones, Rocher chocolates, Styrofoam sheet, yellow roses, red furry yarn, Lindt milk chocolate truffles, polka dot cellophane wrap, gold and red curling ribbon, floral tape, stem wire (16 or 18 ga) or bamboo skewers, pearl strands, hot glue (use a low temp glue gun), glue dots, and tools (scissors, wire cutters). Step 1. Take a small straw hat (a 8 ¾ hat in this case, including the brim), gold glitter, tacky glue, and a brush. Mix some tacky glue with a little bit of water and apply it to the hat, using a brush. Then sprinkle glitter on top of it. Work from the outside first, let it dry, and then glue glitter to the inside of the hat, let it dry. Shake off the extra glitter. Spray the hat with clear varnish to seal the glitter in place. You may be able to find spray glitter in your local craft stores. You may want to give this a try rather than using loose glitter and tacky glue. Step 2. Decorate the hat s brim. Alternately attach Rocher chocolates and red heart-shaped acrylic stones to the hat s brim using a little bit of hot glue. I used 9 Rocher chocolates and 9 red acrylic hearts.

13 Step 3. a) Take floral foam (a Styrofoam sheet that you can buy in a craft store or you can use white polystyrene insulation foam you can buy in Lowe s or other similar home improvement stores; it s cheaper) and cut it to the proper size so it fits snugly in the center of the hat. You can secure it with hot glue.

14 b) Cover the foam with red furry yarn securing it with floral pins. I could not use floral pins as they were too big for my thin Styrofoam sheet, so I used 1 ¼ Quilter s T pins instead. Step 4. Take one yellow open rose and rose leaves. Elongate the leaf stems with a piece of stem wire and green floral tape. Insert the rose in the middle of the foam and the green leaves around it.

15 Step 5. Make 3-4 Chocolate flowers. Wire and tape Lindt milk chocolate truffles. Wrap these Lindt Chocolate flowers in polka dot cellophane, creating a cylinder. Tie gold ribbon at the base of the chocolate flower. To prevent the cellophane from sliding down on the stick, use a glue dot. Insert these Lindt chocolate flowers at the back of the foam. Step 6. Take two yellow rosebuds, cut their stems to the desired length. Wrap them in polka dot cellophane, creating a cylinder. Tie red curling ribbon at the base of the rose.

16 Step 7. You can also insert some pearl strands into the arrangement. Who would have thought that you started out with a simple straw hat?
