2 Overview The compressor station, also called a pumping station, is the engine that powers an interstate natural gas pipeline. As the name implies, the compressor station compresses the natural gas (pumping up its pressure) thereby providing energy to move the gas through the pipeline. This course is intended as an introduction to compressor stations for professionals working for pipeline companies, pipeline service companies, or sales companies whose products relate to compressor stations. Attendees of this course will learn about the function of a compressor station. The instructor will review basic vocabulary regarding compressors and compressor stations. Attendees will learn the criteria used to determine compressor station locations. He will review turbine compressors, motor compressors, and engine compressors - how each prime mover works, as well as their advantages and disadvantages. The instructor will describe the regulations that impact compressor stations and will end the course with a discussion of hot topics and FAQ s regarding compressor stations. He later brought these offshore-born skills to the onshore oil and gas industry, designing midstream systems as a facility engineer for leading firms in Houston, Texas and Durango, Colorado. In the San Juan basin in Western Colorado he worked on coal bed methane development programs as a facility engineer and project manager, responsible for managing and engineering the design and installation of compressor stations and pipeline systems. He came to Denver in 2004 with Thunder Creek Gas Services as the sole engineer on a project to design 1,000 miles of gas pipeline in Wyoming s Powder River Basin. As a project engineer, he managed infrastructure design and execution for the project, including a 31-mile high-pressure gas line that was laid near Gillette, WY. He started Halker Consulting as a sole proprietor, consulting engineer in 2006, designing facilities and pipeline systems and analyzing processes in pipeline systems. Halker is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Colorado. As midstream oil and gas engineers, Halker Consulting specializes in surface facilities designs for onshore wells and production sites, including central processing facilities; multi-well site design; full-field development and optimization; and federal, state and local regulatory compliance. Recent projects include natural gas, oil, and water pipelines; gas processing facilities, gathering systems, compressor stations; and water conveyance. 2

In obtaining this accreditation, EUCI has demonstrated that it complies with the ANSI/IACET Standard which is recognized internationally as a standard of good practice.
