2 INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS After Hours Coordinator Grade 5 Nurse September Please prepare your application under each of the headings in the Selection Criteria (outlined in the position description on point 6) Examples and descriptions of how you are able to meet these requirements must be provided. If you are required to attend an interview, a current police check should be brought to the interview if available which will enable the appointment process to be finalised quickly. If you do not have a current police check / working with children check You will be requested to complete the Consent to Check and Release National Police Record Form at the interview You will need to bring to the Interview a photocopy of your driver s licence, passport or birth certificate. 4. Your salary and allowances will be paid in accordance with the Nurses (Victorian Health Services) Award 2000 and Nurses (Victorian Public Health Sector) Multiple Business Agreement This is a part time role as a Grade 5 Nurse (0.4). Shifts may be morning, afternoon, night and weekends. 6. As a staff member, the opportunity to package up to $9,095 of your salary is offered. 7. Otway Health will pay an additional amount of 9% of your base salary to the superannuation fund on your behalf. 8. Attach copies of your qualifications to your application. 9. 3 POSITION DESCRIPTION OTWAY HEALTH POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: After Hours Co-ordinator CLASSIFICATION: RN Grade 5 AWARD: Nurses (Victorian Health Services) Award 2000 Nurses (Victorian Public Health Sector Multiple Business Agreement ) EMPLOYMENT TYPE: As per Contract DIVISION: Clinical Care APPROVAL: Director Clinical Care DATE: 19 January POSITION CONTEXT Otway Health is a Multi Purpose Service (MPS) located at Apollo Bay on the Great Ocean Road in South West Victoria. The MPS is a joint Commonwealth and State government initiative for isolated areas. This model concept draws together appropriate health and community services within the one organisation. The strategic goal of Otway Health is to provide an integrated health service consisting of community and allied services, primary care, HACC, adult education, neighbourhood house, a child care centre, flexible aged care residential places a small acute care unit and an emergency unit for urgent care. 2. POSITION PURPOSE In the absence of the Manager Clinical Care, and the Nurse Unit Manager, the After Hours Co-ordinator is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Clinical Division after hours and at weekends. Each After Hours Co-ordinator is responsible for a designated portfolio related to the clinical care provided at Otway Health in addition to the clinical role of supporting the Associate Nurse Unit Manager and Aged Care staff. 3. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES: The After Hours Co-coordinator: Is responsible for the continued operation of the Clinical Care Division, and is responsive to the needs of residents, their representatives and staff. Assists in the delivery of safe patient care by liasing with the Associate Nurse Unit Manager and providing support and guidance for staff (Nursing, medical, food services and other) and patients and their families as required.

4 Ensures effective human resource management practices are monitored throughout the Division in line with relevant legislation. Facilitates patient admission and /or transfer by discussing bed availability with the Visiting Medical Officer in accordance with Admission Procedure. Assists in monitoring and analysing patient incidents and accidents. Is actively involved in the preparation, maintenance and implementation of emergency disaster plans, and together with other emergency control personnel, be responsible for coordination of staff and patient movement in the event of an emergency during their rostered shift(s). Maintains an awareness of patient/nurse dependency throughout shift as this will assist with safe co-ordination of staff and patients in such a situation. Is responsible for maintaining own education relating to emergency and disaster procedures. Is responsible for quality control for nursing and personal care services delivered and allocation of staff as required. Ensures compliance with Health and Safety Legislation and all other relevant statutory obligations. Relationship with the Manager Clinical Care Supports the Manager Clinical Care in ensuring accountable management in all aspects of the Clinical Care Division s operations. Acts as the principle advisor to the Manager Clinical Care on matters related to the Clinical Care Division. Acts within the Instrument of Delegation and ensures that Otway Health s Policies and Procedures appropriately service the contemporary needs of the Multi Purpose Service and its staff, highlighting to the Manager Clinical Care the need for review/revision as necessary. Contributes to the development of the Strategic Plan, Service Plan, Quality Plan, Emergency Plan and the various MPS reporting Requirements. 4. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Portfolio requirements are met. Safe patient care is provided. Appropriate nursing staff levels are maintained. 5. ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP (see Organisation Chart) Reports to: Manager Clinical Care Supervises: Associate Nurse Unit Managers Personal Care Attendants. External Liaisons: Represents Otway Health to the community as required. 6. SELECTION CRITERIA Selection is based on ability to demonstrate that skills, knowledge, qualifications, experience and ability criteria (listed below) can be met and the ability to undertake the key responsibilities of the position is evident.

5 Qualifications Registered Nurse Division One - registered by the Nurses Board of Victoria. Experience Current experience in a senior nursing role Current experience in assessing, planning and implementing care plans for clients. Current experience in managing and providing leadership to a multidisciplinary team in a public sector environment. Knowledge Skills Understands the purpose of, and is able to use, common software applications for word processing and . Ability to clearly explain information and listen to feedback. Ability to lead and motivate people, and to adopt an entrepreneurial approach in relation to responsive service provision. Personal Qualities Seeks all relevant information for problem solving Ensures written communications contain information necessary to achieve the purpose and meet audience needs. Co-operates and works well with others in the pursuit of team goals; collaborates and shares information; shows consideration and concern; respect for others feelings and ideas; accommodates and works well with different working styles of others; encourages resolution conflict within a group. 7. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT The successful applicant will be required to enter into an employment contract, the terms and conditions will be consistent with the Government and Statutory Authorities guidelines.
