2 Definition of Intelligent Transport Systems Intelligent Transport Systems or ITS refer to information and communication technologies applied in the field of road transport, including infrastructures, vehicles and users, and in traffic management and mobility management, as well as the interfaces with other transport modes. ITS are advanced applications, which without embodying intelligence as such, aim to provide innovative services for different modes of transport and traffic management and to enable various users to be better informed and to make safer, more coordinated and smarter use of transport networks. The majority of these applications concern the use of telematics applications for fleet management, fare payment and passenger information systems.

3 What is ERTICO ITS Europe ERTICO ITS Europe was founded at the initiative of leading members of the European Commission, Ministries of Transport and the European Industry. ERTICO is the network of Intelligent Transport Systems and Services stakeholders in Europe. Connect public authorities, industry players, infrastructure operators, users, national ITS associations and other organisations together. The ERTICO Partners and the dedicated team of highly skilled professionals work on a portfolio of activities to accelerate the development and deployment of ITS across Europe and beyond. ERTICO ITS Europe represents the interests and expertise of around 100 Partners involved in providing Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (ITS). It facilitates the safe, secure, clean, efficient and comfortable mobility of people and goods in Europe through the widespread deployment of ITS.

5 Example of another country ITS Association TS Finland is an organisation dedicated to advancing the research, development and deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to improve the nation's surface transportation system. ITS Finland's membership includes more than 65 organizations comprised of public agencies, private sector companies, and research institutions. ITS Finland is an open forum for the cooperation of Finnish companies and public administrations as well as a network for telematics developers representing different transport modes. Its main task is to promote the deployment of concrete ITS services for private and corporate users. Traffic is teamwork: The production and distribution of traffic information also requires functional public private partnerships.

6 About ITS Hellas In 2005 the ITS working group, part of the Greek e Business forum initiative, was established; In 2006 the group published and presented the results of the work to the Greek ITS community In early 2006, a working group among relevant ITS stakeholders was established in order to create the statutes and to prepare all the necessary actions towards the establishment of ITS Hellas. After 2 years, April 2008 of voluntary work ITS Hellas was officially established as a non profit limited company. 8 What is a national ITS association? National and regional ITS associations have been established in many countries in order to support the increasingly rapid deployment of intelligent transport systems and services (ITS). They are usually non profit associations with public and private members which coordinate activities on a national scale. Although it is quite difficult to pinpoint every activity undertaken by the various ITS national associations as they widely differ in size, membership and specific interests some of their most important tasks can include: Providing support and encouragement of national (as well as regional and local) consensus and cooperation related to ITS development and applications. Assisting in the creation of a ITS national strategy which can form the groundwork of future applications. Sponsoring or providing ITS training programmes, exchange of information and dissemination of R&D results. Building international contacts for the exchange of ITS experiences with other European and non European organisations.

9 Member of ITS Nationals ITS Hellas is member of the Network of National ITS Associations. The Network of National ITS Associations aims to ensure that ITS knowledge and information is communicated to all related actors at local and national levels such as small and medium sized enterprises and to provide a bottom up support for ITS promotion. Greece participates in the Network of National ITS Associations as one of the founding members.

10 ITS Hellas Mission To promote the development and use of ITS in Greece and the export of Greek technology and experience abroad, while also working towards increasing road safety, environmental protection, mobility and comfort of the public. We believe by involving all players, best practices can be applied to the challenges of creating the necessary information infrastructure, identifying any institutional and legislative changes and to successful project implementation. This will speed up the growth of ITS for all actors of the vehicular, personal and goods' transport and logistics value chains.

11 The role of ITS Hellas To liaise between its members and international organizations, such as ERTICO, and to provide related information exchange. To inform its members about funding opportunities for research and development projects provide by national, European and international funding mechanisms. To assist state authorities on any issues related to ITS and transport and on formulating and designing ITS related strategies and policies. To promote the added value of ITS technologies and to demonstrate the necessity for large scale deployment. To disseminate information to its members and to the wider society on issues related to ITS, new opportunities, collaboration possibilities, etc. To create working groups create working groups for major social, technological, political and financial issues related to ITS.

12 Participation in the 9th ITS European Congress Dublin, 2013 ITS Hellas participated in the Congress s s exhibition through a 18qm stand along with the Ministry of Infrastructure transport and networks; 5 ITS Hellas members had the chance to present their work and achievements through this stand ICCS, Infotrip, G4S, CERTH, and SBOING; Ministry of Infrastructure Transport and Networks presented the Greek ecall pilot in the framework of the HeERO project; ITS Hellas leaflets where distributed to the participants ITS Hellas leaflets where distributed to the participants while through a three days networking many opportunities for co operations have been raised for the exhibitors.

Optimal use of road, traffic and travel data (1/2) Current status Several projects have been conducted or are still ongoing Some services are already available & functioning Real time traffic information (incl. RDS TMC services & public transport information) A good example of planning a multimodal journey is available at and is related to the Attica region Issues/problems Lack of coordination among the different projects and initiatives Lack of a central national database for serving multi modal transport and the distribution of traffic data Lack of a central design & plan for the distribution and use of traffic data and public transport data especially using DATEX/DATEX II standards

Linking the vehicle with the transport infrastructure (2/2) National priority action Development and implementation of cooperative systems Key activities Installation of relevant equipment at the infrastructure side for supporting cooperative systems Open platform implementation together with relevant tools/libraries and well defined interfaces for linking the vehicle with the transport infrastructure Development of innovative cooperative applications based on Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) communications

22 ITS Associations Cluster Core members the National ITS associations which are partners in SEE ITS; All ITS associations of the SEE region are invited to participate. The cluster will form a Forum to discuss ITS issues and exchange views, case studies and good practices regarding the road map of the Action Plan& Directive implementation. Cluster is a dissemination tool for SEE ITS project. ITS associations of the cluster disseminate the case studies from other countries to their national level members. ITS associations of the cluster propose cross border actions to promote common interest; these could be soft actions and promotion of cross border projects to the national decision makers. The cluster interacts with the Network of the ITS Nationals, does not substitute it.
