4 Appendix A: Sources and Methodology The Economic Impact Model: The economic impact model used in this report is based on direct input information provided by J.D. Irving, Limited such as employment, payroll and other spending. It uses the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis RIMSII Multiplier tables to derive the direct, indirect and induced economic impacts, using the following parameters: Direct impact measures the value added to the economy from J.D. Irving, Limited that is attributed directly to the sector s employees, the wages earned, and the revenues generated. Indirect impact measures the value added that the direct impact firms generate within the economy through their demand for intermediate inputs or other support services. For example, all of the companies in J.D. Irving, Limited s supply chain within the state. Induced impacts are derived when employees of the aforementioned industries spend their earnings and owners spend their profits. These purchases lead to more employment, higher wages, and increased income and tax revenues, and can be felt across a wide range of industries. The RIMSII tables trace the impact of economic activity (output shock) on the provincial and national economies (including imports and exports). The data is based on existing economic activity patterns in the industries involved in the various states. The RIMSII tables are available at the state level (direct and indirect) and the national level. Statistic/Comparator: Total J.D. Irving employment figures J.D.
