2 General information Purpose and Intended Audience The purpose of this meeting is to improve the competence of healthcare workers through an interactive learning environment and provide the opportunity to discuss approaches and techniques in the treatment of patients with kidney diseases. The intended audience includes: physicians, physician assistants, and nurses with an interest in nephrology and dialysis. Objectives Upon completion of this course, the learner should be able to: Describe the new deceased donor allocation policies. Explain the mechanism of polycystic kidney disease and describe new studies on management of this disease. Discuss and apply new treatments for hepatitis C in patients with kidney disease. Describe recent studies on treatment of renovascular hypertension and assess where we go from here. Evaluate and manage glomerulonephritis occurring after renal transplantation. Describe and debate controversies in the dialysis prescription. Identify and discuss pitfalls in the use of serum creatinine. Describe the approach to evaluate and manage an adolescent with hypocalcemic seizures. Discuss new approaches to the management of myeloma-associate kidney disease. Registration Fees The fee is $250 for physicians, $150 for allied health professionals, and $125 for UI clinical-appointment faculty members and retired or emeritus physicians. UI Internal Medicine full-time faculty, staff, fellows, and residents will be allowed to attend free of charge. The fee includes registration, CME and CEU recording, instruction and educational materials, continental breakfast, refreshment breaks, and lunch. While registration is open until the start of the meeting, we encourage early registration to enable us to provide the best possible service to participants. A $25 fee will be charged for canceled registrations. No refunds will be given for cancelations made after May 1, For on-site registration an additional fee of $25 will be added. Location The meeting will take place at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, 200 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, in the (E331 GH), 3rd Floor, General Hospital. Take elevator BE to the 3rd Floor.
