3 Introduction This application note describes the configuration steps for Verizon ATF SIP Trunks to a ShoreTel Connect Onsite system. Verizon Verizon Business s IP Trunks is a standards-based SIP interface trunk designed to work with any IP PBX that supports SIP-based Trunks. Verizon Business requires successful completion of certification testing of an IP PBX platform since there could be variations in vendor implementation and possible effects on quality and performance. This involves careful analysis to identify and resolve potential interoperability/support issues prior to attesting that the platform works with Verizon Business s VoIP IP Trunks service. Verizon Business can support SIP Trunks on multiple providers through access methods such as IP Trunks. Benefits Leveraging Verizon Business Technology. Verizon Business s IP backbone will be used to route calls to and from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) via the SIP trunk(s). Network-Based Support. Use the network-based private dial plan for enterprise on-net calls. Flexibility. Provides government agencies with the option to gradually replace TDM voice circuits and fully leverage their converged WAN network. No Need to Retrain Employees or Experience Disruption in Service. Verizon Business s VoIP service retains all the current IP PBX features. There is no need to retrain employees on any of the calling features or functions and no need for equipment changeover or disruption to services. Features Establish and Receive Calls: IP Trunks allows a subscriber to successfully establish and receive telephone calls between on-net locations and establish/receive calls between onnet and off-net locations by interoperating with the PSTN. Quality of Service: IP Trunks uses a standards-based quality-of-service scheme based on the IEEE p/q standards to provide a high-quality of service while mitigating call quality issues. Verizon provides industry leading Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that include Mean Opinion Score (MOS), jitter, packet delivery, network availability, and Denial of Service (DoS). ShoreTel. 5 Special Notes The following are the caveats and limitations of Verizon ATF SIP Trunks with a ShoreTel Connect Onsite system. At this time, we are unable to provide additional information on a resolution of these limitations, but suggest to periodically refer to the ShoreTel Connect Software Build Notice for updates, which can be found at the following location: SIP Registration This test used a Static IP Authentication method between a ShoreTel Connect Onsite PBX and the Verizon ATF SIP Trunks. SIP Registration is not required for Verizon ATF SIP Trunks. Fax Support Due to a known issue, fax was not tested or currently supported with a Verizon ATF SIP Trunks but it may work with the legacy hardware ShoreGear Switches in a G711 Passthrough mode. The complete support for T38 and G711 pass-through fax for all Switch platforms will be added in a later release. Switch Support The following switch types are supported with Verizon ATF SIP Trunks. Virtual Trunk Switch ShoreTel Voice Switch ShoreGear Switches (Legacy) Note: Although ST14.2 was not directly tested with Verizon ATF SIP Trunks, ST14.2 is supported and retrogressively compatible with the legacy ShoreGear and Virtual Trunk Switches as per the recommended config in this Application Note. Additionally, this Application Note assumes the setup, configuration and licensing of the Virtual/Physical Switches has already been completed. If you require additional information, please refer to the ShoreTel Connect Onsite Planning and Installation guide at the following location. 6 SIP Trunk Media Proxy SIP Media Proxy is required to provide the feature parity of PRI Trunks with SIP Trunks. This includes the features like Office Anywhere, Simultaneous Ringing, 3-way Mesh Conferencing, Call Recording, Silent monitoring, Barge-In, Whisper Page etc. SIP Media Proxy is enabled by default on ShoreTel Virtual Trunk switches, but needs to be assigned manually on the new ShoreTel Voice Switches as well as for legacy half-width ShoreGear Switches. For further information on the SIP Media Proxy, please refer to Chapter 19 of the ShoreTel Connect Onsite System Administration Guide. ShoreTel Unsupported Features and Limitations The following section contains some of the features and limitations with Verizon ATF SIP Trunks: Fax (and modem) redirection works only if the carrier or ITSP supports T.38. The maximum number of music on hold (MOH) streams that a SIP-enabled switch can support varies with the switch model and the switch s configuration. Also, the allotment of resources for jack-based MOH includes streams for Backup Auto Attendant and transmission of ringback tones. The range of such streams across all the voice switch models is to 6 party conferences, when a SIP trunk is involved, utilize Make Me conference ports. Silent Monitor, Barge-In, Silent Coach and Call recording features are supported by SIP Trunk only if the trunk has a SIP trunk profile with hairpinning and the trunk is on a halfwidth switch or a virtual switch. Silence detection on trunk-to-trunk transfers is not supported, it requires a physical trunk. The ShoreTel system does not initiate calls with a 30ms payload; all calls are initiated with a 20ms payload. SIP REFER based call scenarios are not supported with Verizon ATF SIP Trunks NOTE: There may be other feature limitations when using SIP Trunks. Please refer to Chapter 19 of the ShoreTel Connect Onsite System Administration Guide for more information. ShoreTel. Brilliantly simple business communications. Page 6 of 26

7 ShoreTel Configuration This section describes the detailed steps required on the ShoreTel Connect ONSITE system to support Verizon ATF SIP Trunks. Codec Configuration This section describes the Codec configuration required on the ShoreTel system to work with Verizon ATF SIP Trunks. Verizon ATF SIP Trunks uses the default Codec list High Bandwidth Codec for Intra-Site and Low Bandwidth Codec for Inter-Site calls. No modifications are required in this section. Site Configuration This section describes the Site configuration required on the ShoreTel system to work with Verizon ATF SIP Trunks. 1. Navigate to Administration > System > Sites 2. Set Name: Headquarters 3. Set Local Area Code: 408 is used in this example 4. Intra-Site Calls: The default codec list High Bandwidth Codecs is selected from the drop down menu 5. Inter-Site Calls: The default codec list Low Bandwidth Codecs is selected from the drop down menu 6. Fax and Modem Calls: The default Codec List, Fax Codecs High Bandwidth Passthrough, is selected from the drop down menu. 7. Leave all other fields as default 8. Click SAVE ShoreTel. 8 Call Control Configuration This section describes the Call Control configuration required on the ShoreTel system to work with Verizon ATF SIP Trunks. 1. Navigate to Administration > Features > Call Control > Options 2. Set DTMF/RFC-2833 payload type: Leave all other fields as default 4. Click SAVE ShoreTel. Brilliantly simple business communications. 9 SIP Trunk Profile This section describes the SIP Profile configuration required on the ShoreTel system to work with Verizon ATF SIP Trunks. Verizon ATF uses the default Verizon SIP Profile for SIP Trunks. Trunk Group Configuration This section describes the procedure to create a SIP Trunk Group for Verizon ATF SIP Trunks. 1. Navigate to Administration > Trunks > Trunk Groups > Trunk Groups 2. Click NEW 3. Set Name: Verizon-TollFree 4. Set Trunk Type: SIP 5. Set Profile: The default SIP Profile Verizon, was selected from a drop down menu. 6. Set Digest Authentication: -None- is selected from drop down 7. Leave other fields as default. 8. Go to the INBOUND tab 9. Set Number of Digits from CO: 10 was used in this validation 10. Leave other fields as default. ShoreTel. Brilliantly simple business communications. Page 9 of 26

10 11. Select the OUTBOUND tab 12. Outgoing: Checked 13. Set Access Code: 9 is used in this example 14. Set Local Area Code: 877 is used in this example 15. Set Billing Telephone Number: Pilot number will be provided by your Verizon ATF Account Representative and must be kept confidential 16. Enable Original Caller Information: Checked 17. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen 18. Remove leading 1 from 1+10D: Checked 19. Leave all other fields as default 20. Click SAVE ShoreTel. Brilliantly simple business communications. 12 Individual Trunks The following procedure outlines the steps required to create SIP Trunks for Verizon ATF SIP Trunks. 1. Navigate to Administration > Trunks > Trunks 2. Click NEW 3. Set Trunk Group: Verizon-TollFree (SIP) 4. Set Name: Verizon ATF was used in this setup 5. Set Switch: SETUP1_SITE1_SWITCH2 is selected to host SIP Trunks. 6. Set IP Address or FQDN: Enter the IP Address of the Ingate s LAN Interface. 7. Click SAVE Custom Dial Plan The following section outlines the detailed procedure of configuring a custom dial plan for the Verizon ATF SIP Trunks 1. Go to ShoreTel Connect Director Login Page. 2. At the Login prompt, click on the Username while pressing CTRL+SHIFT keys. This will enable Support Entry mode on the ShoreTel Director. 3. Login to the ShoreTel Connect Director with your normal administration credentials. ShoreTel. Brilliantly simple business communications. Page 12 of 26

13 4. Navigate to Administration > Trunks > Trunk Groups > Trunk Groups 5. Select Trunk Group: SIP Trunk Group (SIP) 6. Click on tab CUSTOM RULES 7. Enter the following rule in the Custom field: ;10E 8. Click SAVE ShoreTel. Brilliantly simple business communications. Page 13 of 26

14 Ingate Configuration Ingate Startup Tool 1. Launch Ingate SUT (Startup Tool) TG 2. Please Select Model: Ingate Firewall/SIParator is selected from the drop down 3. Click Next 4. Configure SIP Trunks: Checked 5. Set Password: Enter the proper Ingate password provided for your deployment 6. Click Contact ShoreTel. Brilliantly simple business communications. Page 14 of 26

20 Ingate Configuration 1. After the configuration is uploaded via the SUT TG, login to Ingate SIParator/Firewall via web GUI 2. Set Username and Password: Enter proper username and password for Ingate 3. Navigate to Network and configure as following ShoreTel. Brilliantly simple business communications. Page 20 of 26

21 4. Navigate to Administration > Save/Load Configuration 5. Click Apply Configuration to apply the changes 6. Click Save Configuration to save the change to the SIParator/Firewall ShoreTel. Brilliantly simple business communications. Page 21 of 26

22 7. Select the SIP Trunks tab 8. Set View Trunk: Select the relevant SIP trunk from the drop down menu. SIP Trunk 1: Generic (no register); ShoreTel ShoreGear is selected for this setup 9. Click Go to SIP Trunk Page 10. Most of the parameters in SIP Trunk are defined through the SUT TG. Verify the parameters and make changes accordingly. ShoreTel. Under PBX Lines, update the From PBX Number/User field and User Name field to the following for the Outgoing Calls: $1?P-Asserted- Identity=sip%3a877XXXXXXX% X.X%3a5060&Diversion[1]=sip%3a$(diversion[1].us er)% :5060&from=%3csip:877xxxxxxx% x.x%3e Note: Replace 877XXXXXXX and X.X with the customer s assigned Base Trunk Number and the Public IP Address Natted to the Ingate respectively. 25 13. Under Setup for the PBX, configure PBX IP address and select previously configured PBX Network and keep other fields with a default value.
