Ethan B 24th July Excellent behavior inside and outside the classroom! It has been a busy start to Term 3 with plenty happening in the first 3 weeks. Our 3-6 class had the wonderful opportunity to see the Faith students perform their musical, Back to the 80 s, last Wednesday at the Gatton Shire Hall. It was a great performance which our students (and staff) enjoyed. In correlation with the 150 th anniversary of the first train journey in Queensland, from Ipswich to Grandchester, representatives from Queensland Rail visited our school. They spoke to the students about train safety and some of the history of the railway in Grandchester. As well as this they presented the school with some gifts to commemorate the occasion. Last Sunday of course was the Steamfest here at Grandchester. Our students did a fantastic job with their performance on the day, with plenty of comments from the public about how well they performed. A big thank you to our wonderful volunteers who gave up their time to organise, donate, and work on the P&C stall and the car parking for the day. It was a great fundraiser for the school with a combined total of over $1600 raised on the day. This is a fantastic result which will be a great benefit to all students. Thank you again to all those involved, your support for our school is VERY much appreciated! Behaviour Focus Week 3 Being Respectful -Teasing others is never ok! Week 4 Best Effort - Everyday on time ready to learn! Our behaviour focus next week is rather timely as we have noticed an increase in the number of students either absent or arriving late. It is important that children attend school on time every day. Mornings are the key learning time for children. If they are consistently late to school they are missing out on that valuable time. Why is regular attendance at school important? Regular school attendance will mean that your child has a better chance in life. Your child will achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day. they learn better they make friends they are happier they have a brighter future. Ella will be able to present her certificate at any Caltex Star Mart where she will receive a lunch box, healthy snack and a drink from the shop to put in the lunch box.

Under Queensland law, you must make sure your child of school age is enrolled and attends school all day, every school day unless they have an acceptable reason. Illness and competing in a school sporting event are acceptable reasons for being absent from school. Principals decide if the reason given for your child s absence is acceptable. Avoid keeping your child away from school for: birthdays, shopping, visiting family and friends, if they sleep in, looking after other children, minor check ups or care such as hair cuts. What should I do if our family is going on a holiday in school time? You are encouraged not to schedule holidays during school time. If your family holiday is during school time, let the school know in advance and talk about what arrangements can be made for your child. Depending on the circumstances the school may be able to provide tasks for your child to complete while they are absent or assist you to organise an exemption from schooling. Do I need to let the school know if my child has been away from school? Yes, you must let the school know the reason why your child has been absent from school within two school days of their return. If possible, advise the school beforehand. Are you having problems getting your child to school for some of these reasons? won t get out of bed in the morning won t go to bed at night can t find their uniform, books, school bag etc slow to eat breakfast haven t done their homework watching TV have a test or presentation to do, have an assignment to hand in it s their birthday. If so, a set routine can help have a set time to go to bed have a set time to get out of bed have uniform and school bag ready the night before have a set time for starting and finishing breakfast set a time for daily homework activities speak about school positively be firm, send your child to school every school day including their birthday and the last day of term! What should I do if my child won t go to school? You should contact the school as soon as possible for advice and support. Remember to keep collecting your stickers from Woolies and hand them into the school office! The more stickers we get, the better the rewards we can collect for our school. *More Sticker Cards are available at the office when you need them.

I strongly encourage everyone to take the time to complete this survey as it is a chance for you to have a say about your child s school. The survey is online the web address and logon code is provided with the form given out last newsletter. The survey closes this Friday. Please contact us if you have any questions about the survey. Prep Year 2 Class You would be forgiven for thinking that you were visiting Underwater World if you step into the Prep-Two classroom this term. We are learning to compare and contrast narrative texts (fiction) and informative texts (non-fiction) and have decided to use books with an underwater theme. After reading The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister and Finding Nemo, we are now reading and writing about the real animals and fish in these books. We are looking forward to firing up the computers next week and learning how to use PowerPoint to make projects about these animals. In the meantime, we swim around our room surrounded by stinging jellyfish, deadly sharks and colourful fish. Please feel free to pop in for a look as the children enjoy sharing their work.
