2 MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE HEALTHY HIGHLAND PARK TASK FORCE OF THE CITY OF HIGHLAND PARK, ILLINOIS MEETING DATE: Wednesday, September 14, 2011 MEETING LOCATION: Pre-Session Conference Room, City Hall 1707 St. Johns Avenue, Highland Park, IL CALL TO ORDER At 4:30 p.m., the meeting was called to order and the Staff Liaison called the roll. ROLL CALL Members Present: Chairman Edye Wagner, Chairman Roni Weiss, Member Mary Jo Lindl, Member Dr. Albert Miller, Member Dr. Gerald Burke Members Absent: A quorum was present. Staff Present: Also Present: Emily Palm Project Coordinators Lea Bacci and Janine Hoffman SCHEDULED BUSINESS Review of 2012 Proposed Workplan The Task Force decided to proceed with the Passport to Health program instead of the Losers Win Challenge. Part of this new program will include a WeCAN/Let s Move! community designation. The Task Force will identify synergies between both programs and the passport to health program. The nurture program will also be utilized to the extent possible. The work plan was approved unanimously. Staff liaison Emily Palm reported that the Task Force will be honored at the 2011 ICMA award ceremony. The Task Force won in the category of community health and safety. Project Coordinators Lea Bacci and Janine Hoffman provided an overview of the Losers Win program to date and reviewed the status report and budget. The Task Force discussed alternate ideas for handling remaining funds after the Losers Win program has concluded. In keeping with the 2011 grant, the Task Force will proceed with the WeCAN programming.

4 A RESOLUTION SETTING THE SCHEDULE OF REGULAR MEETINGS OF THE HEALTHY HIGHLAND PARK TASK FORCE OF THE CITY OF HIGHLAND PARK WHEREAS, Act 120 of Chapter 5, Illinois Compiled Statutes, requires the Healthy Highland Park Task Force to give public notice of its schedule of regular meetings at the beginning of each calendar or fiscal year; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HEALTHY HIGHLAND PARK TASK FORCE OF THE CITY OF HIGHLAND PARK, LAKE COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION ONE: That the Healthy Highland Park Task Force of the City of Highland Park, Lake County, Illinois, adopts hereby the public notice of its regular meetings in the following form: PUBLIC NOTICE The Healthy Highland Park Task Force of the City of Highland Park will convene at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, 1707 St. John s Avenue, Highland Park, Illinois, to conduct its regular meetings during 2012 upon the following dates: January 18, April 18, July 18 and October 24. SECTION TWO: That the Secretary of the Healthy Highland Park Task Force of the City of Highland Park be and is directed hereby to post a copy of the Public Notice contained in this Resolution in the City Hall Administrative Offices and to supply copies of this Notice as and in the manner provided by law. 5 Summary/Update of Remaining Programming from Healthcare Foundation Grant 2011 August December 2011 Upon completion of the Losers Win Challenge 2011, program coordinators worked with the Park District of Highland Park, Oak Terrace School, and the North Shore Health Center to implement a WeCan/CATCH community program. o Due to low registration numbers the originally scheduled WeCan/CATCH program was cancelled. Through their own grant, the North Shore Health Center was also offering a WeCan/CATCH program. Due to their ability to meet with clients 1:1 and explain the program, the North Shore Health Center had an excess of 20 families on a waiting list for their program. Program coordinators met with Olga Aguilar at the North Shore Health Center and it was determined that we could collaborate on the Health Center s upcoming WeCan/CATCH program with remaining funds from the 2011 Healthcare Foundation grant. o Upon approval from Emily Palm for use of remaining funds, program coordinators collaborated with the North Shore Health Center to run a WeCan/CATCH program November December Program coordinators assisted the North Shore Health Center in updating fliers, finding space at Oak Terrace school, securing a translator and additional staff, and providing giveaways for the families in attendance. o Program coordinators also worked with Olga on planning and manning a table at the North Shore Health Center s Family Fun Night in order to encourage more children to participate in on-site screenings. Following is a brief summary of the event: HHPTF table was manned by two energetic teachers Children were given a ticket for completing the screening which they used to redeem a playground ball at the HHPTF table. Children inflated their own ball and received a handout with suggested outdoor ball activities. Other handouts were available with overall details of the WeCan/CATCH program. Table signs clearly showed the Task Force name and logo. Event went well with over 120 people screened (an increase from last year) All playground balls were distributed and only 4 kids were not able to get one. Children enjoyed the activity of inflating playground balls and they were a big hit. o The North Shore Health Center s WeCan/CATCH program began 11/30, had 17 of the 25 families attend and report that the program has begun successfully. Program coordinators are in communication with Olga Aguilar as needed.
