3 MEASURING FOR INSTALLATION Determine your desired wall panel dimensions and layout. Allow for a 1/16 gap at the ceiling, floor and all abutting trim pieces. For L shaped pieces or cut-outs, be sure all inside corners have a minimum 3/8 inside radius. Panels have decorative patterns that are not intended to be uniform. Please be sure the appearance of all adjoining pieces is acceptable. Usually, butt joints are fine, however, sometimes small trim pieces may be desired. You may need to draw level and plumb lines on the wall to determine whether your walls are out of square. Using the reference line and measuring from the lowest or widest point on the wall, determine how your panels will need to be cut. Transfer this data to the panels. Check your measurements and cut the panels with a circular saw or router with a straightedge. You may make final adjustments or scribes to your cuts with a sander.

4 CUTOUTS All inside corners of cutouts should have a minimum 3/8 radius. Sharp inside corners are potential targets for stress cracking and must be avoided. No square corners All inside corners need 3/8 minimum radius Determine the location of electric or plumbing holes. Transfer the data to the panels. Make the cutouts as large as possible to accommodate the appropriate equipment, fixtures or cover plates. These cutouts must be a minimum ¼ larger than the pipe diameters. The cover plates for the plumbing fixtures may allow for more variance. Consult the equipment or fixture installation instructions for templates and recommended hole cut out sizes. Check your measurements and using a router, jig saw or standard bi-metal hole saw, cut out the plumbing holes. Locate the positions of cutout sections for windows, doors and other architectural elements. Use guidelines above for cutting the panels. Be sure to leave 1/16 gap between the panels and door/window casing and trims. Inside corners need to be 3/8 minimum radius. For large openings, it is best to have a soft seam joint at all corners. Sand all cutout edges smooth before installing the panels.

5 TRIM PIECES In some designs, trim pieces can be used at corners and between butt joints in the panels. Here are a few examples: Two flush adjoining panels with thin intermediate strip Inside corner created with ½ square piece NOTE: Trim pieces can be custom made from solid surfacing or other materials Outside corner and bottom trim pieces Generally, inside and outside corner trim pieces need to be installed before the panels.

10 INSTALLING THE PANELS Place shims (1/16 thick minimum) at the base of where the sheets will rest. This allows for small adjustments to bring the sheets plumb and level. Laminate chips make great shims. Trial fit & scribe the panels as needed. Place the panel on the shims where it will be installed and check the fit. If necessary, scribe the panel for a better fit. Trim the scribe with a sander. Be sure all edges and cutouts have been sanded to remove small nicks and chips. Clean the sheets and installation area. With denatured alcohol and a clean rag, clean the back of the sheets and the substrate, along with any other area that will be in contact with the flexible adhesive. Apply the flexible adhesive on the back of the panel along the edge and throughout the back of the panel using 4 6 circles of adhesive. This helps create a suction to hold the panels in place. If there are cutouts in the panel, place a bead of adhesive completely around the cut out location. Cutout location with adhesive around perimeter 4 8 circles of adhesive throughout sheet

11 INSTALLING THE PANELS Place the panel on the 1/16 shims, check for plumb/level, line up any cutouts, and firmly press the panel in place. A trick of the trade is to use a level or other straight edge to push the panels flat against the wall. This will result in a flatter installation and produce better joints at corners and adjacent panels. Due to the cure time for silicone adhesive, some installers use hot melt adhesive as a clamping system to help hold the panels in place. If using a hot melt glue gun, apply the silicone as stated above, apply hot melt in appropriate places on the wall and press the panel firmly into place. The hot melt will hold the panel until the silicone sets up. This must be done quickly to avoid having the hot melt cure to fast.

12 INSTALLING THE PANELS An alternative to the silicone and hot melt process would be to use a fast cure, high tack adhesive. There are several urethane and other high tack products (construction adhesives) which have the ability to hold the panels without the use of hot melt adhesives. These adhesives need to remain elastic after curing to allow for some normal movement of the walls and panels. Regular construction adhesives cure to a rigid consistency and are therefore not appropriate for installation of these panels. Consult the adhesive manufacturer to be sure that you use remains elastic after curing. Clean all areas (butt seams, corners, etc.) that will be caulked with denatured alcohol and a clean cloth. Pencil marks etc. can be removed using a ScotchBrite pad. Apply either silicone or latex caulk to appropriate areas. Remove excess and clean the area.
