3 General Specification Carcass 22mm MFC vertical carcass elements (with option of aluminium sections front and back), fitted with levelling jacks top and bottom, are constructed between 100 x 25mm load spreading boards laid on the floor and pushed up against the ceiling. 22mm MFC horizontal carcase elements link these vertical boards together at a point close to the floor and ceiling by means of steel cam and dowel fittings to form a run of units. All carcass elements are edged with a soft, flexible, PVC sealing strip to act as: (a) (b) (c) A buffer for doors to close against quietly. A dust seal for protection of goods in the units. A sound reducing element for room dividing units. Backs Back panels locating onto factory-set clip positions are 18mm on room dividing units (decorative) and 12 or 15mm on units built against a structural or partition wall. Doors 18mm door panels hang on nickel-plated single pivot, steel hinges with a spring loaded closure. A soft, flexible, PVC sealing strip is fitted to the door meeting stiles. Plinths 18mm decorative plinth panels cover the floor and ceiling service spaces. The bottom plinth size is always 94mm, with 125mm from the floor to the bottom of the door, whilst the top plinth size is variable to suit the ceiling height. Fittings All internal fittings as listed later in this manual are direct-fixed to a 32mm vertical grid system in the vertical carcass element. Scribes Standard wall connector or scribe width is 125mm when used to start a run from a wall. If required at both ends of the run, the wall connectors will usually be manufactured equal to centralise the units between the two walls. Minimum scribe dimension is 60mm to enable doors to open enough for pull-out fittings to be used. Decor Ends Decorative end cladding 18mm thick can be used to cover the last vertical carcase element when this is left exposed. Blanking Panels 18mm decorative panels are used to bridge between runs across pillars or over service risers, and can be manufactured to any size, but usually made to the same module panel widths as the units, 395mm, 495mm, 793mm or 993mm. most Real Wood veneers and a Glazed version, are available on slightly longer lead times. 1

4 General Specification - Continued Blanking Panels 18mm decorative panels are used to bridge between runs across pillars or over service risers, and can be manufactured to any size, but usually made to the same module panel widths as the units, 395mm, 495mm, 793mm or 993mm. Locks All cupboards are supplied as standard with a rotary locking handle and a 3point espagnolette bar lock on the main door. The removable lock cylinders are Master-key capable, and are supplied, suited to the cupboard runs, as standard. Locks can also all differ, or be suited to the personnel of the office for greater security, by request. A choice of handles is available on request. Services Ample space is provided behind the plinths, scribing panels or blanking panels for the running of cables, pipes or ducting for services. It is important that this is taken into account in the early stages of planning if required. Performances Panels to Class "2" spread of flame are supplied as standard. Class "1" or Class "0" performance boards are available at extra cost. Rated sound reduction index RW = 46db (BS5821 Part 1 : 1984) attainable with mineral wool filled cavities and part-loaded units. 43db attained with empty cupboard, 36db attained without mineral wool and with empty cupboards. The false/acoustic back version (Detail SP002/A) increases performance to 46db when empty, rising to a possible 49db when part-loaded. Finishes Standard finishes include Grey, Beech or Maple MFC. Other colours or woodgrain MFCs, laminates, most Real Wood veneers and a Glazed version, are available on slightly longer lead times. 2

5 Setting Out / Planning Guide i) The first rule note is that the modular sizes of the units (400, 500, 800, & 1000) are equal to the pitch from unit to unit.this provides the continuity of alignment with office partition construction & office funiture modules. ii) The length of a run is calculated :- The sum of all modules + 2 x half structural panel = 22 mm (2 x 11 mm) + finishing end panels * * Finishing end panels are = a) decor ends 18mm b) Wall connectors-std 125mm variable min 60mm-max 993mm iii) Example A) Overall run length = (2 X11) + 18 = 3165 mm Wall connector Decor end clad Structural end panel iv) Example B) 1000 module 1000 module A B Overall run lengths : A B (2 X11) + 18 = 1165 mm (2 X11) + 18 = 1058 mm v) Nominal planning depth: 500mm freestanding (with decorative backs). 550mm wall mounted (built against structural walls) 3
