2 Equal Opprtunities Plicy Legislatin The Equality Act 2010 (the Act) prvides a mdern, single legal framewrk with three brad duties: Eliminate discriminatin; Advance equality f pprtunity; and Fster gd relatins. Tickfrd Park Primary Schl fully understands the principle f the Act and the wrk needed t ensure that thse with prtected characteristics are nt discriminated against and are given equality f pprtunity. A prtected characteristic under the act cvers the grups listed belw: Age; Disability; Race, clur, natinality, ethnic r natinal rigin; Sex (including transgender); Gender reassignment; Maternity and pregnancy; Religin and belief; Sexual rientatin; and Marriage and civil partnership (fr emplyees). In rder t meet ur general duties, listed abve, the law requires us t d sme specific duties t demnstrate hw we meet the general duties. These are t: Publish equality infrmatin t demnstrate cmpliance with the general duty acrss its functins - We will nt publish any infrmatin that can specifically identify any child. Prepare and publish equality bjectives - t d this we will cllect data related t the prtected characteristics abve and analyse this data t determine ur fcus fr ur equality bjectives. The data will be assessed acrss ur cre prvisins including the fllwing functins: Admissins; Attendance; Attainment; Exclusins; and 1
3 Prejudice related incidents. Our bjectives will detail hw we will ensure equality is applied t the services listed abve hwever; where we find evidence that ther functins have a significant impact n any particular grup we will include wrk in this area. Tickfrd Park Primary Schl will make reasnable adjustments t meet the needs f disabled pupils and implement an accessibility plan aimed at: (a) increasing the extent t which disabled pupils can participate in the curriculum; (b) imprving the physical envirnment f schls t enable disabled pupils t take better advantage f educatin, benefits, facilities and services prvided; and (c) imprving the availability f accessible infrmatin t disabled pupils. The Schl s leaders accept and welcme their respnsibility t have due regard in decisin-making and actins t the pssible implicatins fr pupils with particular prtected characteristics. We will cnsider equality implicatins befre and at the time that we develp plicy and take decisins. We als welcme ur duty under the Educatin and Inspectins Act 2006 t prmte cmmunity chesin. We recgnise that these duties reflect internatinal human rights standards as expressed in the UN Cnventin n the Rights f the Child, the UN Cnventin n the Rights f Peple with Disabilities, and the Human Rights Act The Plicy Tickfrd Park Primary Schl s Equal Opprtunities Plicy draws tgether all previus equality legislatin and details hw the Schl is fulfilling the requirements f the Act. 2. Our Eths This schl is a place where: learning is fun; children are prepared fr their future; all effrts are acknwledged and celebrated; everyne is valued and respected as an individual; we will educate ur children abut equality and diversity and where we pledge t meet the needs f all ur individuals; everyne is encuraged t be part f and cntribute t the cmmunity; and 2

Addressing Prejudice Related Incidents Tickfrd Park Primary Schl is ppsed t all frms f prejudice and we recgnise that children and yung peple wh experience any frm f prejudice related discriminatin may fair less well in the educatin system. We prvide bth ur pupils and staff with an awareness f the impact f prejudice in rder t prevent any incidents. If incidents d ccur we address them immediately, and where apprpriate reprt them t the Miltn Keynes Cuncil using their guidance material and als t the Bard f Gvernrs. The Lcal Authrity may prvide sme supprt. 4. Respnsibility We believe that prmting equality is everyne s respnsibility. The Schl eliminates discriminatin and ther cnduct that is prhibited by the Act. We als actively advance equality f pprtunity and fster gd relatins between peple wh share a prtected characteristic and peple wh d nt share it. We d this by measures that include: (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) fr pupils - implementatin f plicies n equal pprtunities (including race and gender equality, special needs, behaviur and anit-bullying); fr staff - implementatin f plicies n equal pprtunities, fr example, recruitment & selectin and pay; PSHE, SRE, RE and ther elements within the curriculum that prmte friendship and understanding abut cultures and lifestyles; emplying specialist staff t supprt pupils with special needs r disabilities, and implementing the Schl's disability access plan; mnitring f welfare, with interventin and supprt where required; taking steps t meet the particular needs f pupils r staff that have a particular characteristic. 3
