1 Michael Bodin Conclusion All mobile phones in the future will be faster, thinner, with more functions, more CPU capacity and storage capacity. In some years from 2020 it s possible that mobile phones has replaced today modern laptops. Details I believe that it will take really long time before the mobile phones goes away from our sight (get included in cloth etc). I believe that it will develop and replace the laptop in the closest years. In the future a user is able to perform a power point presentation with just his mobile phone in his/her hands (if there s a projector in place). The physical form on the mobile phone will not change that much from today if you consider size and weight, it will be thinner and look more exclusive. De physical buttons will be replaced with a sturdy touch screen. The weight will be about the same, because the user wants to feel it in his/her hands when they interact with the mobile phone. I also believe that it will be more common for the users to choose between different operating systems on their mobile phones, like the scenario when you choose if you want to use UNIX or Windows on your laptop today. The pictures I ve sent (look at pages 2-4 below) symbolizes a 3D sketch on a mobile phone model that I think will be very common in the future. As you can se, the phone seems to have two speakers (one up right and one down left), the truth is that both can be used as speakers if you for example watch a movie on your mobile phone. When you speak in the phone it will notice in which of the corners you speak and activate a microphone there, so it doesn t matter how you hold the phone when you speak in it. In the round corner up left (front) left there s a camera lens (both on front and backside) to a digital camera. The mobile phone on these pictures are about 6-8 mm thick, 90 mm height and 4,5 mm wide. On all edges there is a nice polished metal frame (the user can choose which metal instead of witch color on the phone) to look more exclusive and sturdy. The round corners (up left and down right) on the pictures are a bit angular; the idea is that they are supposed to be completely round. The only physical buttons that will be on the phone will be a on /off button, a volume control and a camera button. It will have connections for VGA and S-Video (out). This is so the user can connect the phone to a TV or projector. It will also have a slot for more storage capacity devices. Even audio connections will be available on the phone. In the future it will probably be able to rent a movie direct to your phone and watch it (with or without TV). Of course it needs some kind of wireless internet device. Properties: - Is able to play movie on TV / projector / and more. - High storage capacity. - Internet device. - Call. - Play music - Includes advanced operating system. - Bluetooth (for communication directly between mobile phone if possibly. Can also be used to play games or share files between phones).
2 - 5.1 surround audio connection. - More computer programs included (like MSN is included in some mobile phones today) The mobile will work more as a laptop in the future despite its small size. Picture 1 (above): Front, camera up left, speakers/microphones in the sharper corners and a flat touch screen for interaction with the user. Picture 2 (above): Backside with camera in upper right corner.
3 Picture 3 (above): Perspective Picture 4 (above): In front

5 Rough work plan If I won I would structure the work like this: First month First I would read about different technologies that are available today and do some investigations about what now day mobile phone users think about their mobile phones, what they dislike/like/etc. This is to get a good ground for a good detailed design plan later on, of the product. If I ve this information I will be able to avoid bad design decisions in the beginning. This will take around a month. Second month Now the detailed design of the mobile phone will start with help from the information I got from the investigations I did the first month. This will take around 1-2 months and will result in a detailed sketch/flash prototype on the touch screen interface will work and some calculations how much the mobile phone will cost to produce, list of functions, etc. The rough design decisions made in this competition can get to be changed due to technology and the user studies done the first month. Third month I will continue the detailed design work on the mobile phone. After that phase is done I will start to implement the touch screen interface and build the hardware of the mobile phone. This will take at least 2-3 month. Forth and Fifth month Look at month 3. Sixth month In this month the mobile will be shown (a physical prototype). Deadline will be the end of first week in this month. The rest of the time is extra time (if needed). The presentation will be the last week of the month.
