5 Math Numbers and Operations: Fractions Grade Level: Fifth Units: 4 Fractions In addition to score performance, the student demonstrates in depth inferences and applications that solve word problems involving the addition and subtraction of fractions and mixed numbers with like and unlike denominators referring to the same whole, including cases of unlike denominators write single step real world problems for given situations involving fractions use benchmark fractions to estimate answers and check for reasonableness solve real world problems involving multiplication of fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers solve real world problems involving division of unit fractions by non zero whole numbers and division of whole numbers by unit fractions interprets multiplication as scaling (ex. Multiplying a given number by a fraction greater than one results in a product greater than the given number.
