1 Dear Parents Whilst writing I would like to take the opportunity to wish you a very happy half-term when it comes. It is lovely that the days are getting longer as we get closer to a Spring; we are looking forward to some warmer weather in the next half of the term. Being the best we can be for ourselves and God s world Newsletter No. 7 3 rd February 2017 Reports will be coming out at the end of this term, I know teachers will be putting lots of work into the reports over halfterm and in the weeks that follow. The final reports will be sent home with children on the 30th March. Phase 2 will be leading our Easter Celebration this year and we are looking forward to welcoming you to our Easter service on the last day of term. Phase 3 will be leading our summer production which is a musical this year - details of this will follow nearer the time. ACTIVE MUMS CYCLE CLUB 1. There is a new cycle map for Cranbrook and this will be published on our website and Facebook Page. 2. Active Mums has been set up in the community and are really successful rides that run on a weekly basis. You can find out more on Facebookhttps:// f=ts.

2 Incredible Edible The idea behind Incredible Edible is that people come together to grow food, anyone can come and take what they like! Isolation is a big issue for many people which can lead to mental health issues. We plan to meet once a week, work for an hour or two and enjoy some shared food, tea and cake! We are hoping to recycle as much as possible, making use of pallets and possibly car stacks of car tyres (which make great planters) We have already been offered fruit trees from Broadclyst farm and another offer to start up a local bee hive! There is a facebook page and petition

3 YEAR 5 & 6 NON-UNIFORM DAY 10 th February 2017 This year (Phase 3) years 5 & 6 will be treating us to a Summer performance of Hoodwinked. To save our parents/ carers having to pay the cost of tickets to the performance we are inviting the year 5 & 6 children to Wear What They Like on Friday 10 th February for a 1 donation. We will then use the proceeds from these donations to pay for the licensing fees, and materials required for sets etc. PLEASE REMEMBER: This event is only for Years 5 & 6, Thank you. Half- Term Date Reminder Half-Term is: 13 th February 17 th February 2017 Inset Day: 20 th February 2017 The children will be back to school on Tuesday 21 st February 2017 Term Ends: 31 st March 2017

4 DATES FOR THE DIARY St Martin s Family Tea & Cake Friday Feb 10 th at 3:30pm In the hall after Collective Worship Come along and enjoy cakes and refreshments Donations of cakes will be needed on the day, along with a few volunteers to help serve. If you are able to do either, please Brigid at sbmanager@stmartins.devon.sch.uk Attendance and Absence Reporting As you know we place a high priority on the importance of children being in school and each term all the children with 100% attendance have their names put into a prize draw and the winning child is given a present. Can we please remind parent/ carers that registration is at 8:30am if your child arrives after this time they will need to be signed in at the office for safety reasons. Absence Reporting If your child is going to be absent from school due to ill health can we please ask that all parents/ carers notify the school office not your child s teacher.

5 Competition Design a St Martin s skirt for Rev Nev! You may well have noticed that Rev Nev loves to wear exceptional skirts that amaze us. We would like you to design a St Martin s themed skirt for her. The winning entry will be made into a real skirt for Rev Nev to wear and the winner will receive an exciting prize. There will also be runner-up prizes and a family prize for family entries. The competition is open to all children at St Martin s school and their families. It is only 1 to enter and the money raised will be used to make the skirt. Front Back Your name (or family member names if entering as a family): Your class/classes: I have included 1 to cover the costs of this competition. 6 Adopt an animal week Escot will be running an amazing activities programme through out February halfterm. This will include: Animal Talks Animal Talks will be held each day. Meet our much loved Otters at 11am and 3pm, and the playful Squirrels at 1pm. Creepy-crawly Welly Walks We ll be running creepy-crawly welly walks where you can look for bugs, go ponddipping, and build animal dens! Available twice a day at 11:30am and 3:30pm. Explore Our Park Splash in puddles, hide behind trees, get lost in our maze and follow our trails. Meet our animals and stumble across woodland playgrounds enjoy what it is to be WILD!! I LOVE SLIPS On Friday 3 rd February your children will be bringing home little coloured I LOVE SLIPS If they could write down something that they Love on them and return them before Wednesday 8 th February we will be displaying them around the Hall ready for the Family Tea Party & Valentines Day.

7 Reminders and points of interest ALLERGIES REMINDER Can we please remind everyone that due to some very serious allergies the following items cannot be given for packed lunches or brought onto the school grounds. NUTS KIWI FRUIT Whilst we appreciate that this may be disappointing to some children it really is of grave importance. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. PARKING OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL We are having real problems with parents/ carers parking on the pavements outside the school. There have been several near misses Quite a few parents/ carers have come to us very concerned about their children who are walking and their young children who are in pushchairs. Whilst we do appreciate that parking if difficult the safety of our Children must come first. With this in mind can we please remind parents/ carers and visitors to the school that parking on the pavements outside of the school is strictly forbidden.
