1 l IBS S5 100 CB-T Data Sheet INTERBUS-S Host Controller Board for SIMATIC S5 95U and S5 100U Data Sheet Revision C 04/1995 Product Description The compact SIMATIC S5 PLCs can be coupled through the IBS S5 100 CB-T controller board to the InterBus-S sensor/actuator bus. The controller board, which can be easily taken into operation, exchanges the data between the compact PLC and the bus system. The board has two flat ribbon cables. The rear cable connects the board to the left module or the PLC. The cable with the pin strip on top of the controller board connects the right bus module, if installed. If a mixed configuration (SIMATIC S5 components and InterBus-S components) is set up, the components must be installed in the following order: Fig. 3: Installation order of a mixed configuration consisting of SIMATIC S5 and InterBus-S components 1 S5 95U or S5100U PLC 2 S5 analog module or digital I/O modules 3 IBS S5 100 CB-T controller board 4 S5 digital modules Carry out all electrical connections to the PLC (S5 95U or S5 100U) and to the InterBus-S system only when the operating voltage has been switched off. Avoid mechanical stress and canting of the module during installation! 2

3 Example of an Electrical Installation Installation Hook the upper guide rail of the controller board onto the upper part of the standard rail (the flat-ribbon cable is facing upwards). Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the cut-out of the red latch, pull the red latch with the screwdriver to the bottom and swivel the controller board to the lower part of the standard rail. Then pull away the screwdriver an let the latch engage. Plug the connector of the rear flat-ribbon cable without lengthening or squeezing the cable - onto the bus module of the last analog board (if provided), or - directly into the female connector on the side of the PLC. Plug the connector of the adjacent, right bus module into the pin strip of the flat-ribbon cable on top of the controller board. Connect the remote bus cable (subminiature D 9 connector) with the remote bus female connector of the controller board (designation Remote ). It is important that you connect the PE terminal of the controller board to the central ground of the system. Please use a cable cross section of up to 4 mm². Removal Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the cut-out of the red latch and pull the red latch with the screwdriver to the bottom. Lift the controller board up and un-hook the controller board from the upper part of the standard rail. 3

4 Operation Starting InterBus-S When the voltage supply for the PLC is switched on, the configuration of the InterBus-S system is read in and addressed in a location-oriented (physical) way. The PLC recognizes the address area required and takes it into account it in the I/O address area of the overall system. InterBus- S data transmission starts automatically. Accessing the Process Data You may access the data of the InterBus-S I/O modules directly via the periphery (L PW, T PW) or indirectly via the process image ( A I, S Q, L IW, T QW). Thus, the complete language scope of the PLC can be used. Reading in Diagnostic Information via InterBus-S The diagnostic information of the controller board is accessible via the front plate and the diagnostic register. The front plate indicates the functioning of the controller board with the RUN LED or errors with a blinking sequence of the ERROR LED. This data is available to the application program through the diagnostic register. The diagnostic register is mapped as an input word into the PLC, where the error group (controller, remote bus, local bus or module error) and the error location are displayed. Controlling InterBus-S The InterBus-S system can be controlled via a function register. By setting output bits of this register the diagnostic and control functions can be triggered. These functions include: - clearing the diagnostic display - acknowledging module errors - checking the number of modules - configuring InterBus-S and addressing it again An assigned input bit signals the result of a function (successful or unsuccessful processing). 4

5 Address Assignment The InterBus-S controller board occupies addresses in the word-oriented address area (analog area) of the PLC. Only the addresses from "input/output byte 64" to "input/output byte 127" can be used. The number of addresses which can effectively be used depends on the PLC system used (or CPU) and the mounting location of the board. The addresses are assigned in four steps (address blocks). The minimum assignment of the board comprises 16 input bytes and 16 output bytes. For larger bus topologies this area can be expanded to 32 bytes, 48 bytes or 64 bytes. These address areas are always fixed and cannot be used by the S5 modules. 6 Address Assignment Example: Location-oriented (physical) addressing After the InterBus-S configuration has been read in, the InterBus-S device addresses are assigned. The addressing takes place in the physical order of the modules. The start address is specified by the module location of the IBS S5 100 CB-T in the PLC. Digital I/O modules are directly placed one after another in the address field. Analog I/O modules can only have even start addresses. The entries Parameter / Bit (diagnostic parameter or bit) and Activation / Busy / Return (function initiated/ runs/ successful) stand for InterBus-S registers which always precede the process data entries. 7 Diagnostics Optical Diagnostic Indicators RUN green LED indicates InterBus-S operation permanently on: data transmission is active blinking: InterBus-S is ready for operation, however no up-to-date data transmission ERROR red LED error state indication off: no error has occurred Diagnostic Register on (blinking): once twice three times four times The diagnostic register is subdivided into the diagnostic bit register and the diagnostic parameter register. Both registers are mapped into the input area. If an error occurs, the parameter register indicates the number of the bus segment in which the error occurred. Information Register Instead of the diagnostic register, the information register can be mapped into the analog input area. In this case, the least significant byte of this registers reflects the number of the output bytes on InterBus-S. The most significant byte indicates the number of the input bytes. 7
