1 MINISTRY JOB DESCRIPTION DIRECTOR OF DONATIONS DEVELOPMENT THE CHRISTIAN AND MISSIONARY ALLIANCE IN CANADA MISSION To faithfully serve the Lord Jesus Christ through The Christian and Missionary Alliance family as we are transformed by Christ, transforming Canada and the world. SUMMARY OF ROLE 1. The Director of Donations Development will foster a culture of generosity by overseeing the development, implementation, and coordination of a strategic approach to resourcing The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada (C&MA), which may include major gifts, corporate donations, grant solicitations, planned giving, and in-kind resources. 2. The Director of Donations Development will oversee all revenue generating fundraising and development activities for the organization. The Director of Donations Development will cultivate and maintain positive relationships with current and potential donors and serve as a liaison with management and staff throughout the organization. RELATIONSHIPS Reports directly to: Executive Vice President (EVP) Works Closely With: 1. Internal contacts: President; Vice Presidents Canadian Ministries, Finance, Global Ministries; Directors of departments; C&MA Churches, Districts, and Ministries, and International Workers. 2. External contacts: Other C&MA partners, Donors, Corporations, various media contacts and publications, and contractors. INCUMBENT: RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Strategic Planning 1. Facilitate the formulation of an annual and long-term strategic resource plan for the C&MA. The plan is to outline initiatives to increase awareness and participation in the funding of the ministry of the C&MA. Work with the C&MA leadership to assess general and specific resource needs.

2 Develop and monitor on a regular basis Key Performance Indicators and evaluate their effectiveness on a quarterly basis 2. Nurture and cultivate a culture of generosity through ministry with churches and donors with a focus on stewardship. Promote and teach a biblical standard for responding to God s ownership of all. 3. Work with the Director of Communications to develop integrated communications, marketing, and resource initiatives in print and online. Develop and oversee strategies and methods to ensure public awareness of these integrated initiatives. 4. Maintain an awareness of the work of the C&MA through effective communication with other managers and staff. B. Fundraising and Donor Relations 1. Develop resourcing strategies and oversee all aspects of resourcing programs. Create resource goals and oversee the solicitation of funds to meet these goals. Develop yearly resourcing plans and monitor progress quarterly. Produce monthly progress reports to the EVP and the Lead Team. Develop and maintain effective systems to support the resourcing functions. Work collaboratively with other departments to develop the C&MA s resourcing strategy. 2. Identify new donors and organize initiatives to solicit resources. Maintain an effective records system and an efficient follow-up process to ensure that all contacts receive appropriate attention. Develop the prospects interests and commitment by patiently and persistently educating prospective donors and churches through correspondence or personal visits. 3. Maintain key relationships with specific donors and churches. Focus on the cultivation of relationships with individuals and churches who have a desire to financially support C&MA ministries. Provide appropriate opportunities for key donors to interact with the president and hear his vision for C&MA ministry personally. 4. Develop major gift opportunities and grant proposals. Research, assess the feasibility of, and implement new methods of generating income such as corporate fundraising, major gifts, or direct mail. Research new trust funds, prepare applications, and build up relationships.

3 C. Planned Giving 1. Identify and initiate contact with potential planned and deferred donors. Solicit gifts, negotiate agreements, and follow up with current and outstanding agreements. Prepare and maintain documents for planned/deferred gift arrangements for prospective donors, containing current benefits and options available. Develop and maintain personal contact with potential donors. Maintain records, contact reports, and background data to facilitate periodic reports on activities, costs, and results. 2. Maintain positive relationships with past, current, and future donors. Promote and explain fund raising activities and planning and deferred giving programs. 3. Plan and coordinate major gift planning programs to promote donations to the C&MA. Work with volunteers and fellow staff to orchestrate the cultivation and solicitation of prospects. 4. Keep abreast of current tax law pertaining to charitable giving and solicitation and administration of programs. Seek the opinions of the Vice-President Finance and legal and other advisors on complex matters, when appropriate. Maintain contacts and liaisons with other professionals in charitable giving and other related fields, i.e., attorneys, financial planners, accountants, and trust officers. Ensure compliance with legislated regulations. Attend appropriate seminars and conferences 5. Provide timely information to and refer complex negotiations and decisions to the EVP. Provide information concerning gift utilization, coordinating and determining the most appropriate method of giving and ensure necessary arrangements are in place for the collection of gifts/donations. REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS In order to successfully respond to the challenges of the role, the Director of Donations Development will be a highly committed, relational, and energetic individual, with the following qualifications and characteristics: 1. Personal faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, with an exemplary history of faithful, fruitful Christian life and service.

4 2. Whole-hearted commitment to the Statement of Faith, vision, mission, purposes, ministries, values and protocol of the C&MA. 3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively at a senior administrative level in a complex organization, with a capacity to relate well in a multi-cultural context. 4. Integrity, high standards, commitment, ethical behaviour, and achievement-oriented. 5. Eligible to be licensed as an Official Worker of the C&MA. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION Bachelor's degree. CFRE designation is an asset. EXPERIENCE Minimum 5 years development experience in donor cultivation and solicitation in the Not for Profit/Charitable sector. Experience running capital campaigns and success fundraising from multiple donor channels. KNOWLEDGE OF: Fundraising management. Fundraising/development legislation, practices, standards, and reporting, specifically in the area of major and planned giving. COMPETENCIES: 1. Creativity/Innovation/Communication Ability to develop new and unique ways to generate additional resources for the organization. Be creative and willing to present new ideas. Possess an entrepreneurial, disciplined, self-starter spirit able to assess the situation at hand and think through to an appropriate conclusion or know where to turn to find the answers. Superior verbal communication skills and the ability to relate to varied audiences. Demonstrated skill in creating powerful, compelling written communications. Able to win the confidence of leaders and donors by demonstrating integrity and truth in interpersonal interactions. Having an ability to work with persons of high net worth, yet not be arrogant.

5 2. Strategic Planning and Implementation Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing strategic plans. A successful track record of moving an organization forward, setting goals, creating and implementing actions plans, and evaluating the process and results. Demonstrated experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to senior managers/board of directors. Demonstrated experience in budget preparation and management. Strong organizational skills. Excellent ability to assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem. 3. Relationship Building Ability to deal professionally and respectfully with key stakeholders across multiple areas of the C&MA organization (international, national, district, local) as well as with external 3rd party organizations who may be involved with the C&MA. Possess a committed focus on Donor Needs: Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of donors to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters. Must be warm in interpersonal relationships and able to develop confidences. 4. Technical Advanced computer skills and experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; SharePoint is an asset Knowledge of fundraising software, databases, etc. Location: Travel: Based in Toronto/GTA Moderate travel required COMPENSATION Salary commensurate with experience, and conforms to the National Ministry Centre s office salary structure.
