1 SECTION STEAM BOILERS (FIRETUBE) PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 WORK INCLUDED A. Provide labor, materials, equipment and services to perform operations required for the complete installation and related Work as required in Contract Documents. B. Boiler and accessories pre-purchased by Owner. Coordinate with owner selected boiler manufacture. 1.2 SUBMITTALS A. Submit product data for boiler-burners and accessories and all other auxiliaries. Submit 1/4 in. scale shop drawing for Boiler Room showing boilers, auxiliaries, piping, breeching and clearances. 1.3 COMPLIANCE WITH INDUSTRIAL CODE AND BOILER INPSPECTION A. Boiler and boiler installation shall comply with New York State Department of Labor, NYCRR, Code Rule 4. Obtain certificate of boiler inspection after boiler installation has been completed. Pay fees. 1.4 QUALIFICATIONS A. The following boiler-burner control features provided on all units; 1. Primary combustion controls shall operate on 120 volt, single phase, grounded circuit. 2. Control wiring in conduit separate from power wiring conduit. 3. Wiring to flame sensor in separate individual conduit. 4. Wiring in accordance with National Electrical Code. 5. Valves in accordance with "Valves" Section. 6. Provide terminals for control and power wiring to respective combustion air damper. B. Service Guarantees: 1. Arrange for boiler manufacturer to provide: a. Instructions for proper installation and operation of boilers, burners and controls supplied. b. Checking proper size of oil and gas piping. 2 c. Supplying motors, starters, and control wiring in compliance with requirements of "Motors" and "Electric Wiring" specifications sections and National Electric Code. d. Supplying required and certified-correct wiring diagrams, indicating wiring to remotely located equipment connected with boiler-burner operation. e. Providing factory trained technician for start-up service and instruction of authorized operators. f. Submitting name and address of factory authorized dealer or service agency, who: is located within 150 miles of job, equipped to render prompt and efficient 24-hour service, and stocks sufficient replacement parts. g. Examine Contract Documents of Boiler Room, breaching, fresh air inlets, fuel supply layout, and advise Owner's Representative if same are not satisfactory for proper operation of boilers firing at full load. 2. Complete installation to comply with (FM) Factory Mutual Insurance and applicable local municipal requirements. 1.5 SPECIAL COORDINATION a. Provide inspection, adjustment and 24-hour call-back service within guarantee period. b. Withstand a difference in supply and return temperature of at least 40 F without leaking, regardless of rate of change in temperature. A. Coordinate Work of other trades in Boiler Room. Furnish Division 26 "Electric" with dimensional drawings showing location of electrical connections, and equipment location of equipment mounted on walls, and of other equipment requiring electrical connections or removing/replacing to permit entry of boiler. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 PRE-PURCHASED STEAM BOILER A. Coordinate with owner for information on the pre-purchased boiler package. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 BOILER-BURNERS A. Temporary Storage: If boilers or burners are exposed to weather, keep metal parts securely covered. Keep boiler openings plugged until piped. Remove susceptible electrical equipment and store in worm place. B. Install Per Manufacturer's Written Instructions: STEAM BOILERS (FIRETUBE)

3 1. Properly level on equipment pad. 2. Pipe blowoffs to the floor and drains to the floor drains. Pipe size shall not be less than tapping size on boiler, low water cutoffs and reliefs. 3. Protect boiler-burner unit from damage during construction. 4. Division 26 - Electrical to provide a manually operated break-glass type remote heating plant shutdown switch located just inside the Boiler Room door and marked for easy identification. C. Employ the services of a Water Treatment Supplier who shall: 1. Test water before filling boilers and prescribe proper water treatment to prevent corrosion or deterioration due to oxygen, acid or scaling. 2. Furnish for delivery to Owner, proper test kit for checking boiler water conditions. 3. Immediately after internal inspection and refilling of boiler, check water conditions at that time and prescribe proper water treatment again. 4. The Water Treatment Supplier shall be responsible for a proper boilout routine, meeting their own, as well as the boiler manufacturer's recommendations. 5. Provide water treatment services for the period of one (1) year as part of this contract. D. Internal Boiler Inspection: 1. Prior to request for acceptance, Contractor shall: a. Drain down each boiler. b. Remove manhole cover. c. Remove handhole plates. d. Thoroughly flush out. e. Notify Owner's Representative when this has been done. f. Must be done one boiler at a time. 2. After inspection and review with the Owner's Representative of condition of boilers: a. Replace handhole and manhole plates using new spare gaskets furnished with boilers. b. 4 3. Thoroughly clean fire side of flue passages. 4. If excessive pitting of boilers has occurred, or boiler has deteriorated in other ways, Contractor responsible for making repairs. E. Services of Factory Mechanic (Provided under pre-purchase with Owner): 1. Arrange to have services of a trained field mechanic from the factory of the manufacturer of the boiler to start-up the installation. 2. Mechanic shall check out entire installation, including pumps and feed apparatus and controls, shall start the units into operation and shall make necessary tests and adjustments to have said equipment operate properly. 3. Manufacturer shall issue a letter stating that the installation has been checked and adjusted and is ready to turn over to the Owner following the completion of this Work. 4. Manufacturer is to forward three (3) copies of the start up report to Owner's Representative for distribution to Owner. 5. Factory mechanic shall be at the job for the initial start-up for not less than two consecutive calendar days and eight hours for each day. 6. Factory mechanic shall make two more trips to the job within the succeeding eight months from the date of the above mentioned letter for the purpose of further adjusting and checking and shall be immediately available in the event of operating failure of the units within a period of one year from the date of the letter. 7. Factory mechanic shall conduct demonstration and combustion tests each boiler for oil and gas firing and shall submit written report. Notify Owner's Representative. F. Tools and Spare Parts (provided under Pre-purchase with Owner): 1. Furnish and obtain receipt for a flue brush and scraper with light weight handles and all special tools recommended by Boiler Manufacturer. 2. Furnish one set of spare parts per boiler as follows: a. Complete set of gaskets. b. V-belts. c. Ignition cable assembly. d. Ignition electrode assembly. e. Nozzle. STEAM BOILERS (FIRETUBE)
