Professional Services Organisations GP s and other community radiology referrers Patients Suppliers Equipment and consumables Teaching and training organisations Purpose : To provide an efficient and effective operational ultrasound service which is safe, of high quality standard and customer focused. Working in conjunction with the Radiology Coordinators at North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals to ensure that the contribution to patient care by sonographers is optimised. Professional Leadership and clinical governance Presents high level clinical and professional perspectives in addressing key strategic and operational issues in organisational decision making processes. Role models a patient/consumer centred approach
2 Work in partnership with the radiology coordinators to provide supervision and leadership to the ultrasound team Participate as member of the Radiology management team Provides advice and recommendations on the professions contribution to overall service development and strategic direction as part of the relevant management team Presents high level clinical and professional perspectives in addressing key strategic and operational issues in radiology and organisational decision making processes. Works closely with radiology team leaders to ensure service delivery is consistent with DHB-wide strategies for ultrasound Provides advice and recommendations on the professions contribution to Ultrasound ln service development and strategic direction Articulates the direction and goals of the radiology service and ensures that these are reflected in team meetings Provides clinical advice and guidance to staff. Maximise the effectiveness of the service by promoting evidence based practice, responsive patient focused care, Effective communication is maintained within the radiology service and with internal and external stakeholders Supports the Coordinators with clinical activity to ensure they are managed efficiently, in line with department protocols and in liaison with the Radiology Co-ordinators. Contributes to business planning, quality and efficiency initiatives Participates in management team meetings Works in partnership with colleagues Human Resource Management Performance planning, coaching and appraisals are completed annually according to organisational policy and in conjunction with the Radiology Coordinators. Manage change processes in ways which meet and maintain planned objectives for the service. Good interpersonal relationships are displayed by staff in the coordination of care with patients and their families. Sonographers are motivated and well trained, focussed on providing the best possible patient care, by agreeing accountabilities and standards of performance Provides leadership and direction to the Clinical Tutor Sonography in the educational curriculum for sonography training. Participates in the development of sonography professional educational programmes Supports the Clinical Tutor - Sonography with co-ordinating the training programme for sonography that is in partnership with training organisations. Works with the Clinical Tutor of sonography to ensure appropriate clinical support and clinical

Manages the CME allowance spreadsheet and assist sonographers with application for conference leave Develops and monitors quality protocols/indicators that demonstrate the professions contribution to quality patient care, and IANZ accreditation Ensures that risk is minimised in the ultrasound service, through effective identification, audit and risk management planning Oversee and assist in change processes Participates and demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement Participates and assists with projects within the department Leads and participates in projects that may be required by senior management Company health and safety policies are read and understood and relevant procedures applied to their own work activities Workplace hazards are identified and reported, including self management of hazards where appropriate Can identify health and safety representative for area

5 PERSON SPECIFICATION POSITION TITLE: Team Leader - Ultrasound Qualification Minimum Qualified sonographer with Unitec post graduate diploma in ultrasound, DMU or equivalent qualification Preferred Continued development through post-registration education and learning opportunities in ultrasound Experience Minimum of 5 years post registration experience Experience in clinical leadership Experience working in a management although not essential Personal attributes Good communication skills and customer service practices. Understanding of and commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. Initiative. A positive Nursing identity and commitment to helping ultrasound practice develop in this organisation.
