2 Definition of Logistics Unit An item of any composition established for transport and/or storage which needs to be managed through the supply chain Logistic units are individually identified with the SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) 2

Trade items: Any item (product or service) upon which there is a need to retrieve predefined information and that may be priced or ordered or invoiced at any point in the supply chain Logistic units: An item of any composition established for transport and/or storage which needs to be managed though the supply chain

4 Identifying logistic units The SSCC allows to exchange all the necessary information using ecom. The transaction information can then be accessed by scanning the bar coded SSCC on the logistic unit using Application Identifiers and accessing the relevant ecom message. 4

9 Using SSCCs The SSCC is a standard for the individual identification of logistic units. Logistic units can be pallets, barrels, crates, containers,.. The SSCC can be used by all parties in the supply chain as a KEY to the relevant information communicated electronically 9

11 Allocating SSCC The SSCC allows partners to exchange all the necessary information using ecom. Each individual logistic unit is allocated an SSCC which remains the same for the life of the logistic unit. An individual SSCC number must not be reallocated within one year (or even longer depending on product ) 11

17 The GS1 Logistics Label A voluntary standard for the numbering and bar coding of logistic units. Provides clear and concise information about the logistic unit to which the label is fixed, in both machine and human readable form. 19 Logistics Label Mandatory features Use of GS1-128 Symbology and Application Identifiers. An SSCC encoded in the lowest symbol on the label. A unique SSCC for each individual logistics units for the lifetime of that unit. 19

20 Optional data about the content of the Logistics Unit GTIN using AI (01) - Identification number of Logistic Unit as a trade item (e.g. if the pallet is orderable) GTIN using AI (02) Identification number of items contained on the Logistics Unit (e.g. if the cases are orderable) Additional manufacturing information related to the GTIN (date, batch number,...) Mandatory measures (e.g. Net Weight) for Variable Measure Trade Items 20

26 Structure of the GS1 Logistics Label The GS1 logistic label has three sections: Data Titles Must be used Top section - Free format (e.g., logos).
