4 Self Installation This guide will help you install your new INNOVATION dream kitchen. With INNOVATION, it s easy! Easy to carry. Cabinets, door panels and drawer boxes are individually packed making it easy to move them to the jobsite. Easy to assemble. 80% of the assembly is already done. Cabinet assembly hardware is pre-inserted into the panels and deluxe drawer boxes are pre-assembled, dramatically reducing the assembly time. Easy to install. With pictures and simple instructions, this guide explains every step that needs to be followed. Never try to install the cabinets all by yourself. You could injure yourself. 5 Preparing to Install 1. Checking for an uneven floor Use a 4-foot level. Place it on the fl oor. Find the lowest and highest points of the fl oor along the walls where you plan on installing the cabinets and mark them on the wall. 2. To mark the cabinets installation line Use the highest point on the fl oor (Found in step 1). Measure 83¾" from the fl oor for 30" wall cabinets and 84" high tall cabinets, or 91¼" from the fl oor for 38" high wall cabinets and 91" high tall cabinets. Mark a level line along the wall at the specifi ed hieght. This is the upper cabinet installation line. Measure 34½" from the fl oor and mark a level line along the walls. This is the lower cabinet installation line. 3. Finding the studs in drywall Along the installation line, mark the fi rst stud from the corner by using a stud fi nder. Mark the center line of each stud along the installation lines. Usually placed at 16" intervals, they can also be found at 12" and 24" intervals. 4

6 Installing the Wall Cabinets 1. Installing the corner wall cabinet Always start with the corner cabinet whether it is a WC2424 or WCD2424. Measure from the corner of the wall to the center of the studs you need to attach the cabinet to. Transfer the stud center line measurement to the inside of the corner cabinet, towards the top and bottom where the solid installation rails are located. Predrill attachment holes through the back panel and the solid installation rails at top and bottom. Align the top edges of the cabinet with the upper cabinet installation line and secure cabinet in place by screwing into the studs with installation screws. Do not fully tighten! 2. Installing the wall cabinets Measure from the adjacent cabinet or wall to the centerline of the studs you wish to attach the cabinet to. Transfer the stud centerline measurements to the inside of the cabinet, towards the top and bottom where the solid installation rails are located. Pre-drill attachment holes through the back panel and the solid installation rails at top and bottom. Align the top edge of the cabinet with the upper cabinet installation line and secure in place by screwing into the studs with installation screws. Do not fully tighten! 3. Fasten cabinets together Use hand clamps to hold cabinet sides together. Ensure front edges are fl ush. Fasten cabinet securely together with provided screws. Drill pilot holes inside the cabinet. Cabinet joining screws can be hidden behind hinge plates Note: Cabinets must be level and plumb. Once all wall cabinets are installed and fi xed together check again for alignment and level Now you can fully tighten the wall attachment screws to lock the cabinets in place 5

7 Installing the Base and Tall Cabinets 1. Beginning installation: the corner cabinet If you have one, always start with the corner cabinet. With the screws provided, secure the front and back legs under the cabinet according to the assembly instructions. Note: Ensure that the tongue on the leg sockets overlaps the bottom edge of the side panels. Place the corner cabinet in position. 2. Installing the corner cabinet Adjust the legs so that the cabinet is level and aligns with the lower cabinet installation line. Measure from the corner of the wall to the center of the studs you need to attach the cabinet to. Transfer the stud center line measurements to the inside of the corner cabinet, towards the top where the solid installation rail is located. Pre-drill attachment holes through the back panel and the solid installation rail behind. Secure the cabinet in place by screwing into the studs with installation screws. Do not fully tighten! Note: Check that the corner cabinet is level across the front, back and both sides. 3. Installing the next cabinet With the screws provided, secure the front and back legs under the next cabinet according to the assembly instructions. Ensure that the tongue on the leg sockets overlaps the bottom edge of the side panels. Align the cabinet with the corner cabinet and adjust the legs so that it is level and plumb. Mark the stud center lines inside the cabinet, towards the top where the solid installation rail is located. Pre-drill attachment holes through the back panel and the solid installation rail behind. 6

8 4. Fastening base cabinets together Use hand clamps to hold cabinet sides together. Ensure front edges are fl ush. Fasten cabinet securely together with provided screws. Drill pilot holes inside the cabinet. Cabinet joining screws can be hidden behind hinge plates Note: Cabinets must be level and plumb 5. Installing tall cabinets Follow the same steps as you did for the base cabinets. The top of the tall cabinet should align with the upper cabinet installation line and the bottom of the tall cabinet should align with the bottom of the base cabinets If you are using a cover panel on the side, attach it before you install the cabinet. 6. Securing cabinets to the wall Attach cabinets to the studs by screwing through your pre-drilled holes. Do not fully tighten! Once all base and wall cabinets are installed and fi xed together, check again for alignment and level. Now you can fully tighten the wall attachment screws to lock the cabinets in place. 7. Measuring the filling strips Measure the gap between the wall and the cabinet in several places. Walls are rarely straight and plumb, so you may need to cut the fi ller strip at a slight angle. For wall or base fi llers, use the 3" wide x 30" high Filler Strip (F330). For tall fi llers, use a piece of matching toe kick (MTK). Note: To prevent chipping, we recommend you put masking tape along the cut line. 8. Installing the filling strips Place the cut side of the fi ller strip against the wall. From inside the cabinet predrill screw holes through the side, in line with the edge of the fi ller. We recommend three holes: top, middle, bottom. Ensure fi ller is fl ush with front edge of cabinet side and attach by screwing through pre-drilled holes. 7

9 Installing the Cover Panels, Shelves and Drawers 1. Installing cover panels Decorative panels profi led like a door can be used to fi nish exposed ends. Use a hand clamp to hold the panel in place From inside the cabinet, drill 3 pilot holes along front and back edges Ensure that the attachment points align with the thick outer frame of profi led panels Screw the panel into place with 1¼" long attachment screws. (not provided) 2. Installing drawers Drawer boxes are supplied preassembled with the necessary installation hardware. Remove the drawer slides from the drawer box, by pressing the release tabs underneath in the front. Using the hardware provided, attach the drawer slides to the cabinet sides, as specifi ed in the assembly instructions. Screw the drawer attachment brackets to the back of the drawer front. Attach the drawer front to the drawer box and lock in place. To insert the drawer onto the slides, fi rst fully extend the slides, then place the drawer on the slides and push to close and lock. 3. Installing shelves Insert 4 shelf supports at the desired location. Place the shelf on the supports. 8

10 The Finishing Touches 1. Installing hinges on doors Insert hinges in pre-drilled holes on back of door panels. Secure in place by making a ¼ turn of the locking screws. 2. Installing doors Align the door with the cabinet. This will show you where to install the hinge plates. Screw the hinge plates into the pre-drilled holes. Locate the hinge arms onto the hinge plates and snap in place. Adjust the door alignment by turning the hinge adjustment screws. Note: Ensure that the door is correctly aligned before installing the handles. 3. Measuring the toe-kick Carefully measure and cut the required length. On the back of the toe kick, mark the center line of the cabinet legs to be used for attachment. Raw edges of toe kick can be covered with matching tape. 9

11 4. Installing the toe kick Follow the directions from the base cabinet assembly guide to attach mounting clips to the toe kick. For corners, install the clips on both toe kicks, one pointing up and one pointing down, as shown. Place the toe kick in position and press to attach. 5. Installing the light molding Carefully measure, cut and adjust the light molding in place. Note: For 90 and 45 corners, use of a miter saw is recommended. From inside the cabinet, drill pilot holes in line with the molding every 12" - 18". Screw through the pilot holes to attach the molding (screws not included). 6. Installing the top molding Carefully measure, cut and adjust the crown molding in place. Note: For 90 and 45 corners, use of a miter saw is recommended. From inside the cabinet, drill pilot holes in line with the molding every Screw through the pilot holes to attach the molding (screws not included). 7. Installing knobs and pulls Carefully locate and mark the desired location. Hold a scrap block of wood behind the door panel, so that the surface does not splinter when the drill bit goes through. Note: Make sure doors and especially drawers are correctly adjusted BEFORE installing hardware. 10
