2 New Course Experience: User Interface Differences This document looks at the differences in the player user interface between the current and new course experience for video-based courses. The table below lists some of the main feature enhancements. New vs. Current Course Experience for Video-based Courses Feature New Current Learners need fewer clicks to navigate the content. Cleaner, more intuitive interface. Enhanced video controls, including playback adjustments, caption sizing, and full screen viewing options. Lesson and topic durations are clearly visible in the Table of Contents. Lesson and course tests are in-line with course content in the Table of Contents. Indicate topics that require review based on a learner s test score. Learners are prompted with the option to retake the entire test or only failed questions. WCAG 2.0 AA conformant. Single line video captions, with adjustable font sizes. Topic and course level transcripts are available. (to be added early in 2016) Clear and readily accessible course completion information. 4 Recognizing Experiences Current Course Experience The current player has two main tabs; the Table of Contents, with links to the content, and the Progress and Tests Tab, with testing and topic and course completion information. Resources, Settings, player navigation, and the Take the Tour options appear along the bottom of the player window. Note: The Table of Contents is not included in Compliance courses. New Course Experience The course player has been redesigned to launch learners immediately into the content. The Course Menu on the left contains links to many familiar player areas. Course topics, lessons, and tests are available from the Table of Contents. Completion status information is located conveniently at the top of the Course Menu. Video navigation offers familiar controls, and has been enhanced with caption sizing options, playback adjustments, transcripts, and full screen viewing Skillsoft Ireland Limited 4

5 Table of Contents The Table of Contents is conveniently located on the redesigned Course Menu, and displays the course layout, with lessons and topics that are in line with tests. You can view the individual topic duration, as well as topic completion, to help you understand your course progress. Access the topics you need, when you need them. Note that courses that show a locked icon on topics indicate that the topics must be completed in sequential order. Video Navigation Redesigned and familiar video controls let you interact with your video learning. Video navigation has been enhanced with key new options, including caption sizing up to 200%, topic and course transcript launches (where available), playback speed adjustments from.5x to 2x. You can also hide the video navigation, and view the video in full window mode (the course menu is hidden) as well as full screen mode (only the video is visible) Skillsoft Ireland Limited 5

6 Course Menu The Course Menu has been designed to group important course information in a convenient and visible location for the learner. See the images below for an overview of where menu options are today, and where they can be found in the new course player. Current Player options, with corresponding New Content Experience Menu locations Completion Status You can easily check your completion status from several locations within the player. Select the CompletionStatus link on the Course Menu. A progress dialog displays, and will clearly show what the course completion criteria are, as well as your progress towards completing them. You can also view your completion status from the Lesson and Course Test Summary pages. 7 The Begin Course/Return to Bookmark button has been replaced by the Place in Course Indicator. If you are in progress, you will be taken back to where you left off the next time you return to the course. 11 New Retake Test Options New test options dialogs display options to retake entire or partial (lesson) tests. New Topic Transition Cards Topic transition cards provide a visual indication prior to launching a topic of what the topic contains. Autoplay is now off by default in the video-based courses, but can be enabled from the topic transition card, or via Settings from the Course Menu. New Course Experience for Traditional (not video-based) Courses Traditional (not video-based) courses, such as Compliance courses, Business Impacts, and TestPreps, will play in the new course experience. There are certain differences in course behavior, namely that content page templates are not responsive and as such are not resizable. This means that you cannot view the course in partial window mode while viewing the Course Menu or Table of Contents. Course pages must be viewed in full window mode Skillsoft Ireland Limited 11
