1 The Samuel H. Kress Foundation and AAMC Foundation Affiliated Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome Purpose and Background The Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) Foundation and the American Academy in Rome (AAR) and are pleased to announce the fourth year of The Samuel H. Kress Foundation and AAMC Foundation Affiliated Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome. The program is intended to honor exceptional curatorial vision and help curators advance deserving projects. The purpose of the award is to provide essential funding for curators to develop projects that require research in Italy. While the AAR is the physical base for the month, the project may be on a subject that is not limited to research in Rome only. Thus, the research need not be Rome-specific. The rich content of libraries and archives in Rome are a portal to conducting work on myriad Italian topics from all arts disciplines and time periods. Day trips or an occasional overnight trip to other cities are permissible given the proximity of so many places to Rome by train: Florence, Milan, Naples, or other places that might have artworks or documents key to a specific project. The AAMC & AAMC Foundation celebrate the curatorial narrative by being a voice for all art curators regardless of field, experience level, and institutional type, and we provide professional development, leadership skills, and direct connections for all art curators working in the not-forprofit sector. All of our programming and overall efforts shall strive to be representative of diversity: across self-identifications (by nation, gender, creed, race), fields of expertise, types of institutional mission, and regional position of participants. Description The Affiliated Fellowship is a four-week appointment at the AAR, which includes housing in a single room; six lunches and five dinners a week and access to residence hall kitchens; $1,500 in airfare; and a $2,000 stipend. Affiliated Fellows have access to all the AAR facilities (including 24-hour a day, seven days a week access to the library) and all activities that occur at the Academy, such as concerts, exhibitions, conferences, lectures, and tours. Due to space limitations the AAR is unable to accommodate the spouses/partners or children of Affiliated Fellows. If desired, the Affiliated Fellow may schedule a talk about his or her project at the AAR during the Fellowship period. About the AAMC & AAMC Foundation Founded in 2001, the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) has over 1,300 members from over 400 institutions around the globe. In the ever-changing visual art community, AAMC & AAMC Foundation are the voice for all art curators working in the non-profit sector regardless of field, experience level, and institutional type. We ensure that the curatorial perspective on art, museums, and educational issues is actively communicated to the public, media, and museum profession. For more information, visit artcurators.org.
