3 lntroduction This document explains the Metasys Integrator PDM Electrical Products (Douglas Lighting Control) MC600 Lighting Control System application. Use this document with the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5), which provides information on installing and commissioning Metasys Integrator. For information on PDM equipment, see PDM documentation (obtainable from a PDM representative). Application Details Metasys Integrator allows PDM MC600 lighting control panels to become integral parts of the Metasys and Metasys Companion Networks. Once the MC600 equipment is connected to the Metasys N2 Bus via the Metasys Integrator, lighting panel data is available to the full complement of Metasys Facility Management System (FMS) features, including Change-of-State (COS) monitoring, alarm notification, scheduling, trend, and totalization. Each Metasys Integrator vendor port can connect up to 32 MC600 lighting panels. The MC600 lighting control panels connect to the Metasys Integrator using RS-485 Multidrop communications. Figure 1 shows PDM MC600 lighting control panels integrated into the Metasys Network, and Figure 2 shows PDM MC600 lighting control panels integrated into the Metasys Companion Network. 5 Component Requirements Metasys Release Requirements Metasys Companion Release Requirements Vendor Component Requirements To integrate the PDM MC600 equipment, you need the following: properly installed PDM MC600 lighting control panels. The devices need to have their device address and communications parameters configured by PDM. model 485TBLED RS-232 to RS-485 converter and model 485PS2 power supply from B&B Electronics RS-232 cable (for connecting Metasys Integrator to the RS-232 to RS-485 converter) Metasys Integrator N2 Bus (for connecting Metasys Integrator to the Metasys or Companion Network) portable PC for downloading vendor communication tables (.VCT files) and network setup information into Metasys Integrator, and for running diagnostics cable for connecting portable PC to Metasys Integrator the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) to download into Metasys Integrator (supplied on disk) This document describes the RS-232 cable and the vendor communication tables. PDM documentation describes PDM equipment. The remaining components are described in the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5). To integrate PDM equipment into the Metasys Network, you need: Metasys Operator Workstation (OWS) software Release 6.0 or later Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 8.0 or later To integrate PDM equipment into the Metasys Companion Network, you need: Metasys Companion Release 5.0 or later Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 8.0 or later Integration between Metasys Integrator and MC600 has been tested with lighting control panels using the MC621 CPU card with Version 1.06AN firmware. Changes to this equipment or integration of PDM products not discussed in this document will require additional software development and testing by Systems Products. Box 1040 Ottawa, IL Phone: (815) FAX: (815) Design Considerations When integrating PDM MC600 equipment, keep the following considerations in mind: Make sure all PDM equipment is set up and running properly before attempting to integrate with Metasys or Companion. (The PDM representative is responsible for proper operation of lighting panel equipment.) Make sure the MC600 baud rate is set to 9600 (the default). (The PDM representative is responsible for setting the MC600 baud rate.) RS-232 cable distance between Metasys Integrator and the RS-232 to RS-485 converter can be a maximum of 50 feet. PDM controllers can be configured to send commands between devices; however, if messages from multiple devices collide, there is no means for Metasys to verify whether there is a loss of message. Metasys Integrator will retry in an attempt to recover the lost message. Increasing the poll delay value may reduce the number of message collisions. 6 Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator PDM-MC600 Application

7 Cable Connections Cable Pinouts Use the following cable pinouts for the RS-232 connection between Metasys Integrator and the RS-232 to RS-485 converter. The RS-485 converter should be configured for a 2-wire interface. The converter should use RTS control and turn echo off. 9 Metasys Integrator Setup To set up Metasys Integrator, you ll use a portable PC connected to the Metasys Integrator Terminal Port. Metasys Integrator setup involves: downloading the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) setting up the port setting up the network addressing The following table provides information specific to the PDM application. For detailed procedures, see the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5). The timeout value can be increased to reduce offline occurrences caused by message collisions: Try two second increments until a limit of about a 35 second delay is reached. The poll delay value can be increased to reduce the frequency of message collisions: Try 100 ms increments until a delay of about 2 seconds is reached. 11 Point Mapping Tables There is one.vct file for this interface. There are 13 CS models defined for this controller series. Each of the 13 CS models references a group of BI/ points in the Metasys Integrator table. Table 2 shows points available for mapping in the PDM MC600. To get the hardware reference for mapping points to a CS object (via the software model), combine the NPT (Network Point Type) and NPA (Network Point Address). For example, the hardware reference for the Exception Mask bit that relates to Relay 1 is BI65. If you map these points to Metasys objects, make sure Auto Restore in the object s Definition or Focus window is disabled. ** Masks are arrays of 64 bits. They are used internally by the PDM program to control the state of the individual relays. One bit corresponds to one relay. The Metasys Integrator interface does not support reading and setting all of the different types of masks that exist in the PDM panels. The two masks that are supported are the exception mask and the direct mask. The exception mask is used to flag relays as nonexistent or defective. The panel is responsible for setting the state of the exception mask bits. The direct mask is used to allow Metasys Integrator to disable the internal program from being able to change a relay through the panel s normal program sequence.
